There are certain things you just shouldn't portray a "cute". Germany is no longer allowed to show nationalistic pride anymore because of the genocide committed on Jews.

I've never seen such a massive amalgamation of Autism and ADD coming from a far east cartoon and it's fans. Which must be why the uploader said this was for kids.
Hetalia was never meant to be a kid's show, and I'm pretty sure it's not. Thats why it has mature themes. It's not racist when you're knocking everyone down equally. And Japan's character is pretty stereotypical of Japan now, anyway. And it's not as if they didn't knock themselves down - in one of the episodes, it's referenced that Japan has a small penis.
The show does have accuracy to it and if it gets people interested in history, then I think it's a damn good show. Laugh at it or walk away.

The Show wasn't banned from Korea because it was bad, just the korean authorities were instulted by it and it's their right. But if Germany, Italy and especially Japan can allow it in their country and love it I highly doubt it's insulting to the dead of world war 2 -.-. I abhor this fandom. Every little extreme fan girl is disgusting. I love these (even though some of my favorite anime are on there, but I won't hate you for this) keep them up.
However, something that interested me is that you said most of it is accurate, which a lot of times it's really not, and would have made a valid point for your criticism.
But I also wanna give you a lot of bonus points for actually making valid points and insightful criticisms, as opposed to a LOT of the anti-Hetalia things I see.
Sorry for leaving so many comments on such an old video, though, which now that I think you've probably heard before.
I also felt the character designs were fairly varied, except among characters who hardly appear at all.
All in all I felt that your overall perception of the show is very flawed, because you continually drag on the point of it being an educational kid's show, which it's not.
You do, however, make some solid points that I do agree with, like the format of the show and how a lot of its elements are okay at best.
Your point about the stereotypes being "wrong" is interesting, though. But I feel that to make them even more generic and stereotypical would only make them more bland and uninteresting. There's also the fact that the nations' actions and characteristics contribute to their characters.
We also have to remember that Hetalia is a stereotypical vision of Europe through a Japanese man's eyes. I can't say for sure, but the stereotypes that come to his mind may not be what comes to ours.
It was trying to keep it light-hearted and less controversial that forced the unfortunate implications. (Although the more I think of it, perhaps they could be used as ~teachable moments~. Or perhaps they could make things worse. Either way losing situation.)
To be fair, though, it's not like the axis aren't portrayed as incapable and even a little dull. Nobody's really ever seeing much real progress.
My only point to counter the idea of racist stereotypes is that, well, at least everyone gets a racist stereotype, and at least (most) of them are not intentionally damaging (Can't say they can't be offensive) (of course some can be seen as offensively negative, like some misread Russia's character as Russians are insane)
But trying not to be too prejudiced is that trapped the series in the hole of a sympathetic Axis Powers.
(As a side note, there's more groupings than just the Axis and Allies)
You do have some legitimate criticisms, like the format of the show.
But your point is innately flawed. You're focusing heavily on the assumption that it's meant to be an educational children's show, which you assume based on its channel and concept. Other shows, like Black Blood Brothers, aired on Kids Station. At night, it aired more mature content, much like Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. (TeenNick and Nick @ Nite are also examples of children's channels with content not geared toward kids)
It was never meant to be educational. This is a misconception by many fans, yes, but it was meant just to be. Not to serve educational purpose.
I really can't be sure about the Kid's Show point, because all I know is that there is a dissonance in values between us and Japan, and I don't know enough specifics to refute or support your point that it is a kid's show. Though I doubt it's aimed toward kids, regardless of its intended channel.

But I have to say that I think the whole point of the show is not to educate as much to satirize and make fun of each countries' stereotypes. Yes, it is educational, but one really shouldn't depend on this show for a complete historical lesson. After all, it does tend to just overlook the atrocious acts that many of the countries have committed. This is a show that should be looked at with satire and mockery.

Dude, I started watching Hetalia and my history grades and my geography grades went from a D- to an A. We know its not "educational" but it is fun and does help those of us with short attention spans learn things that require a long attention span.

Hetalia deals with more, the War of Independence, the Austrian Succession, the Ottoman Empire, the Roman Empire, the Renaissance too. Canada put Japanese immigrants in concentration camps during world war 2 -I know that as a Canadian- British settlers commited Genocide on the First Nations in North America, the U.S. was a major part in the African slave trade, Spain commited genocide on the Aztecs, and there's more too. How are any of our nations better than Germany?

And Canada's imprisonment, resulted in alot of the Japanese and Japanese-Canadians living in Canada, dying. We don't hear it cause not many lived. It was just bad as Nazi genocide, it's true. And Hetalia covers England's killing First Nations, they just used chibi-america and no killing. Should they show Germany that way but not England?

I liked this video and I like Hetalia...Yeah lol. I get where he's coming from, and while I disagree with his opinions on the show (and I know he got some of the facts wrong, like the fact that it's not a kid's show) I like the way he put his opinions, and the text slides made me crack up. I grew up on the History Channel, watching gorey war movies, and true stories, etc...I like that Hetalia can offend so many groups people, isn't serious, still has the most epic fans in the world, and Prussia.
I like how many people are ripping on the reviewer and clicking the dislike button when not only is the video his opinion, but he touches on alot of good points. Hetalia was never meant to be a kid's show, and I'm pretty sure it's not. Thats why it has mature themes. It's not racist when you're knocking everyone down equally. And Japan's character is pretty stereotypical of Japan now, anyway. And it's not as if they didn't knock themselves down - in one of the episodes, it's referenced that Japan has a small penis.
The show does have accuracy to it and if it gets people interested in history, then I think it's a damn good show. Laugh at it or walk away.

First off, it's not a kids show. Not according to Funimation, anyways. I don't know what gave you the idea that Hetalia was meant for children.
Second, South Korea banned the anime because of the character South Korea (and only him), whom they found insulting.

I also felt the character designs were fairly varied, except among characters who hardly appear at all.
All in all I felt that your overall perception of the show is very flawed, because you continually drag on the point of it being an educational kid's show, which it's not.
You do, however, make some solid points that I do agree with, like the format of the show and how a lot of its elements are okay at best.

Your point about the stereotypes being "wrong" is interesting, though. But I feel that to make them even more generic and stereotypical would only make them more bland and uninteresting. There's also the fact that the nations' actions and characteristics contribute to their characters.
We also have to remember that Hetalia is a stereotypical vision of Europe through a Japanese man's eyes. I can't say for sure, but the stereotypes that come to his mind may not be what comes to ours.

It was trying to keep it light-hearted and less controversial that forced the unfortunate implications. (Although the more I think of it, perhaps they could be used as ~teachable moments~. Or perhaps they could make things worse. Either way losing situation.)
To be fair, though, it's not like the axis aren't portrayed as incapable and even a little dull. Nobody's really ever seeing much real progress.

My only point to counter the idea of racist stereotypes is that, well, at least everyone gets a racist stereotype, and at least (most) of them are not intentionally damaging (Can't say they can't be offensive) (of course some can be seen as offensively negative, like some misread Russia's character as Russians are insane)
But trying not to be too prejudiced is that trapped the series in the hole of a sympathetic Axis Powers.
(As a side note, there's more groupings than just the Axis and Allies)

You do have some legitimate criticisms, like the format of the show.
But your point is innately flawed. You're focusing heavily on the assumption that it's meant to be an educational children's show, which you assume based on its channel and concept. Other shows, like Black Blood Brothers, aired on Kids Station. At night, it aired more mature content, much like Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. (TeenNick and Nick @ Nite are also examples of children's channels with content not geared toward kids)

I really can't be sure about the Kid's Show point, because all I know is that there is a dissonance in values between us and Japan, and I don't know enough specifics to refute or support your point that it is a kid's show. Though I doubt it's aimed toward kids, regardless of its intended channel.

No becouse 1930's spain was not an conquistadvor, 1930's germany was making preparations which would culminate in the systematic murder of 9 million people. Hetalia deals with more, the War of Independence, the Austrian Succession, the Ottoman Empire, the Roman Empire, the Renaissance too. Hetalia also has WW2, and if you can't handle that, go suck someone's balls.

Canada put Japanese immigrants in concentration camps during world war 2 -I know that as a Canadian- British settlers commited Genocide on the First Nations in North America, the U.S. was a major part in the African slave trade, Spain commited genocide on the Aztecs, and there's more too. How are any of our nations better than Germany?

@angrydead No, the Spanish commited genocide, the aztecs were killed off, the British tried to kill off Natives, both by killing them, and their food source. And Canada's imprisonment, resulted in alot of the Japanese and Japanese-Canadians living in Canada, dying. We don't hear it cause not many lived. It was just bad as Nazi genocide, it's true. And Hetalia covers England's killing First Nations, they just used chibi-america and no killing. Should they show Germany that way but not England?

The Empire subjegated and enslave. their is an actual differance between genocide and killing a lot of people. The Japanise interment camps where unpleasent but overall deaths remain very low and are primarily due to neglagence rather than malice. 1. this is NOT a kids show. obviously you haven't seen tony or france in action.
2. Do you really want japan to act like he did in WW2? Or any country to act like how they did in any war, really? That would be offenseful to viewers ANYWHERE and would make the show a LOT less enjoyable.

I liked this video and I like Hetalia...Yeah lol. I get where he's coming from, and while I disagree with his opinions on the show (and I know he got some of the facts wrong, like the fact that it's not a kid's show) I like the way he put his opinions, and the text slides made me crack up. I grew up on the History Channel, watching gorey war movies, and true stories, etc...I like that Hetalia can offend so many groups people, isn't serious, still has the most epic fans in the world, and Prussia.

I like how many people are ripping on the reviewer and clicking the dislike button when not only is the video his opinion, but he touches on alot of good points. And really, for all the people bashing him, the comments you leave isn't putting your fandom is a positive light at all, which is why some fans won't touch Hetalia. Because of this behavior. Most Anime fans who are mature agree to disagree on favorites, just because he doesn't care for yours, doesn't give you the right to act this way.
