Getting barralled is the main reason why I sponge cuz you can get barrelled all day and not break your 500$ board. When you wipe out on a boogie, your fine. Surfing, your not. But when the barrels suck surfing is definitely the way to go becasue you can go faster and get air, turn sharper, avoid people easier, and because when your longboarding you can basically walk on water (noseride) so I just ride whatever that day requires, not just one or the other.

I find the experiences of bodyboarding and surfing different from each other and one is not necessarily better than another. I feel sometimes that bodyboarding is a more intimate connection with the wave than surfing, but that standup surfing is an amazing feeling as well.
I am new to all this but it seems like the word body board seems more respectful than boogie board. Probably because to me boogie board seems like a child's word. probably why the surfers use that term when they talk about ummm , body boarders :) Well I like body boarding as I am going to try that first and maybe think about learning surfing. As far as people being violent in the water. I am down to throw blows if I run into an ass whole. The beach is like Disneyland compared to my environment.

You should pretty much respect anything that brings you enjoyment from the ocean. I happen to enjoy surfing the most but I still like boogie boarding (which is the proper term) along with anything else I can do in the water.

I surfed over 25 years and won't go to The Wedge because it's more risk and less profit. But the reality is that every spot that's good and safe is over-crowded times 100 and there's only a few of them. Surfing should never have been promoted starting in year 2000 per the "mainstream", right when it gets just too too crowded they promote it. You should pretty much respect anything that brings you enjoyment from the ocean. I happen to enjoy surfing the most but I still like boogie boarding (which is the proper term) along with anything else I can do in the water.

alright guys we all know that bodyboarding takes more skill, i mean the waves are like 3x bigger than what they actually are because you're flat on ur stomach, as well as being able to do el rolo's, ARS's, and inverts require alot more strength then SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY on a surf board...

I surfed over 25 years and won't go to The Wedge because it's more risk and less profit. But the reality is that every spot that's good and safe is over-crowded times 100 and there's only a few of them. Surfing should never have been promoted starting in year 2000 per the "mainstream", right when it gets just too too crowded they promote it. Hindsight says the economy died right then and hype was put in place every where you go. Surfing has regressed to mushy, small waves and they act progress
