  • Does dickey still tour with the band?

  • Get a break guys !!! Change is the way of life. Its our fortune that they havent stopped yet and still are pleasing us with their music. And for that matter Derek has been appreciated many times by Dickey. Now do we have anyone claiming to know a lil bit more of guitars and music than Dickey does ??

  • how can you even call it ABB??? bands should just change their names, especially after the most influential member dies.. and then if dicky no longer plays with them... who are they? derek trucks is ok, don't want to take anything away from the kid, but he is too poppy/jazzy/rehearsed. it isn't the same.. they shouldn't be able to even call themselves the allman brothers without dicky..... hell, he wrote most of the songs

  • @robihandrix

Derek is "poppy" and "rehearsed"? Wow, you really aren't aware of how little you know about music, are you?

  • Best incarnation of the Allmans, since Duane. They will NEVER play like this again., Especially without Dickey.

  • I think all the era's of ABB guitar duo lineups have all been worthwhile - until they weren't. Dickey, obviously the best until he couldn't take it no more ~ at least not without downin the jack & some not so good shows. Hes' much better running his own band for more than a decade now. DBB/GS is an awsome band. Although that ones' best lineup was best with Dangerous Dan Toler. His tone! Andy & Duane Betts are great though, too, now-a-days. Bonus Q: Name all the guitarists to ever be in ABB?

  • @SouthBound58 Well since I'm old and go back to the original line up: 1969-1971 Duane and Dickey. 1971-1978 Dickey ONLY. 1978-1982 Dickey and Dan Toler. 1986 shows: Dickey and Dan Toler again. 1989-1997: Dickey and Warren. 1997-1999: Dickey and Jack Pearson. 1999-2000:Dickey and Derek Trucks. Rest of 2000: Derek Trucks & Jimmy Herring. 2001 to now: Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks.

Best line up to me. Duane and Dickey. Second best. Dickey and Warren. Did like Dickey with Jack, then Derek too.

  • @boblackey1 Ever remember a guy from florida named Les Dudek being with ABB, around about the time of Bros & Sis and a while after? I think he was a prodigy & great solo artist for a period in the 80's too. I'm sure there were any number of folks who were like Jimmy Herring, who added a bit and then moved on. Just proves what a power /movement ABB music was, is and continues to be to attract great talent. May great music inspire and Always play on!

  • @SouthBound58 Sure I remember Les Dudek. I watch some of his videos often here on YouTube. Dudek was invited by Dickey to do harmony lead on Ramblin Man on Brothers and Sisters. Then Dickey got Dudek to play acoustic guitar on Jessica. Tommy Talton played acoustic guitar on Pony Boy and Gregg Allman played guitar while Dickey played slide on Waster Words because Duane Allman wasn't there anymore. They thought about asking Les Dudek to join the Allman Brothers as Duane's replacement but didn't.

  • This song is always a highlight in the ABB show. I remember this night when they played 'Duane's Tune'. the weather changed and there was lightning all around, reaching for the sky from the water creating magical ambience.

  • Nothing better than Betts/Haynes combination. They are far superior to any other lineups they have shuffled around. They feed so well off of each other. Its beautiful.

Hearing Dickey and Warren play this solo makes my heart smile. Love it

  • IMO I think the the Betts/Haynes combination is far superior to any other combo they have concocted. Warren and Dickey feed very well off of each other and sound so much more cohesive than a Derek Trucks or Jack??? whatever his name was that has had a stint or two with the band. Love Haynes and Dickey. Makes my heart smile to hear them play this solo!

  • DICKEY!!!!!!! Love him. The Allmans aren't the same w/o him. This is prob my fav song by them.

  • God bless!

  • This is brilliant. Who on earth is the young man and the bassist surely it cant be Lamont Wonderful posting. Thanks ever so much peace to you all from Scarborough North Yorkshire. XX

  • Very good. Sounded just like the recording.

  • one thing you can say, and i may behind on this one, but i dont think i never seen betts with a glass on his finger?....someone send me a link if im wrong please!!! fo sho he's still a bad mo fo...and wrote songs....lol...who needs glass right?

  • Slide should've never been introduced in this song especially by this idiot...complete moron.

  • holy shit this is a masterpiece!!!!

  • GO WARREN GO!!!!

  • Dickey was great in his time but his stuff is pretty simple now. I just watched the statesboro blues video.Derek Trucks is in his own league. I am not an Allman scholar, that's just my opinion.

  • taylor8492. Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are probably technically better than Dickey and Duane Allman too for that matter. But Dickey's style and songs and Duane's style in the beginning are a big, big part of what defined the ABB sound. When Gregg and Butch got Jaimoe to vote with them to sack Dickey, it just ruined the band for most old fans. It's like the Stones sacking Keith Richards or the Dead Bob Weir. To old fans with Duane, Oakley AND Dickey gone from the front line..well you can see

  • @taylor8492

Thats what makes it great. It was brand new and innovative.

  • As good as Trucks and Haynes are, for an old man like me who has been an ABB fan since 1970 when Butch and Gregg turned on Dickey and told Jaimoe they would quit if he didn't vote with them to put Dickey out of the band it (the band) just doesn't sound right now. Now with Duane's style AND Dickey's gone, just ain't the ABB to me anymore.

  • I was at that show. 23 without a care in the world.... Simply beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • one of the best bands in the worlds R.I.P

    Duane and Barry

  • *berry

  • The Betts/ Haynes combination was far better than the Haynes/ Trucks combination. Derek Trucks is a great, great player, IMO sometimes he's a little to "jazzy" , but to have two slideplayers in ABB is one to much. Betts was the maincomposer and a VERY important part of their overal sound, and to sack him wasn't their best idea even if Betts had some personal issues at the time.

Thank God we have Dickey Betts & Great Southern who sounds more like the old ABB than ABB themselves today.

  • I gotta agree. Actually, I would like to see the combo Dickie Betts and Derek Trucks together. Maybe someday....

  • there's a video somewhere here with derek and dickey, it's bluesky

  • @stealyourboognish well you can see it on a 99 live version of blue sky

  • And who might you be to make this judgement call? Shut your mouth and open your ears!

  • Even if you don't deserve an answer.... Listen to "An evening with...." and compare it to fx "No Way Out, Beacon 2003" and then tell me who's the best sounding!

  • listen to the Beacon run from this year Trucks is blowing the roof off

  • Actually, I have to agree with you on that one. Man, they're really smokin' this year!!! I really miss Betts tone and feel, but the current line up is really, really great! Lot's of energy, musicianship and fun!

  • I agree trucks is nuts this year. IMO trucks is a much better musician. Don't get me wrong, when dicky was good he was good. My uncles band opens for dicky and great southern on long island and over the last few years Dicky is hit or miss. His habit really can get the best of him. Apparently if you get sober dicky you get a great show if not your out of luck. Thats why ABB fired him.

  • BOTH of those albums are amazing! Betts, Haynes & Trucks are all amazing guitarists. I love both of those albums equally.

  • The ABB ....great band..Warren and Derek?..great players....as for Dickey....absolutely impossible to replace...everything about him defined the Allmans....in many ways more than even Duane....The most widely known and favorite Borhters tunes are all written by Dickey...and none others have come close.

  • @IHIKML ur an idiot truck haynes is where its at dude

  • @jbdfc I'm an idiot? Kiddo, take a look at what you wrote, or at least tried to write. Ever heard of capitol letters and punctuation???? Dude? Living in the 80s are we?

  • @IHIKML wow now i rlly think ur and idiot

  • @jbdfc It's spelled "an idiot", moron! If there's anything else I can help you with, just let me know.... For your sake I hope english isn't your first language? Yeah, wow...

  • @jbdfc jack pearson would like a word with you

  • Man, Dickey looked so badass back then.

  • warren stinks I miss Betts

  • You couldn't lick warrens shoes you wanna be pretender.....now stay off the computer on your walmart breaks dammit!!!!!!!!!

  • so true. duane is a legend and deservedly so, but warren is one of the best guitar players around IMO

  • whether its duane or warren, i always liked dickie's solo part best

  • there are versions of this song with Duane, only three total I believe. I don't know if any videos of it exist.

  • No videos exist of those performances. its a shame

  • a young Warren...what a talent back then, gotten better with age...and Mr. Betts..NOT TOO SHABBY !!!!!

  • Was made after Duane died. This jackass just put duane to attract more people to his video.

  • The one song I could hear every day for the rest of my life and never ge tired of it...TY!

  • yup

  • If only there was a video of them doing it wiht Duane. If there is, I've yet to find it.

  • Damn! Dickey is pulling out some very nice piercing notes from his bag of tricks. Amazing

  • I had the distinct pleeasure of meeting in person Dickey Betts at his mountain top retreat of Love Valley, North Carolina in the summer of 1971 and who did I find in quite amazament a beautiful Canadian Indian lady named Blue Sky sitting outside on an old tree stump. Inside the cbin was a "BAND ONLY COPY" OF " THE ALLMAM BROTHERS LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST" A moment in time forever etched in my mind. Thanks to John Flynt. I am Lehman Tanner, Moss Point, Mississippi.

  • One of my all time favorites. Doesn't compare to the original recording. Lacks the essential sweetness and not even remotely as tight.

  • Man, listening to this can make the worst day brighter!!!!

    THANK YOU DICKEY BETTS!!!!!!

  • best version of blue sky on youtube

  • Dickey F%*#in Betts!

  • thanks for this
