  • For the Ham: The world's largest candy store!

    Great video!

  • If you had any clue. The amateur radio world is where your little cell phone technology comes from. Every RF engineer is a ham. You obviously don't get it.

  • VX-8R looks nice. And the best part is the QUADBAND! I'm loving that.

  • Hi Randy, cracking video, very enjoyable..

  • I would get ill from all the radios I can't afford to buy! Sure there are some fantastic new gadgets to covet

  • wow

  • Nice video from Dayton Hamvention.

    Thanks a lot, Randy.

  • A slingshot crossed with a fishing reel! Gotta love these guys.

  • Dayton is overrated

I have been many times, it almost always disappoints!

    peace :)

  • Displaying gear designed by Japanese engineers great !! Why nobody wants to study fu... engineering here in the US anymore ! Why because education is TOO EXPENSIVE !!!

  • university education in my country, norway, is free=) you even get paid a little bit, so you can start off an education with no money.

  • ballm0use: You are lucky .Most Americans are so scared of 'socialized' medicine and education that they rather be dead under tons of student loans !!LOL

The education and medical system here SUCKS !! $60000 average just for a stupid BS degree ,costs varies with college or university No wonder the average joe here is so fucken stupid.Get ready for some nasty comments by these 'idiots' !!

  • yes sir, herr leutnant

  • Not true--the medical system is the finest in the world (for the select few who are privileged to use it.) Our educational system is also excellent--for those who can afford to pay for it, or are willing to live a lifetime under the weight of loans. There will be nasty comments, but we are working to make things better.

  • sweet !

  • awesome as always :D... will you be going to the Dayton hamfest this year? I might go !! :D 73s ke5rrh

  • Sorry, not this year. Randy

  • @surefirefan 2010, yes I will be there!

  • The haters below don't know you. I really appreciate all your vids. Your neutrality and calm always amazes me, but at this show the vx-8r WAS the only great leap. Even when the year late, spit resistant 718 (7200) came up, you showed restraint and just let them talk. Thank you for China before the Olympics, shooting satellites with the yagi/ camera tripod, and the simple budget-style sound card interfacing 101. Since I don't have one, I've adopted you as my YT Elmer. Listening on the high seas.

  • Thanks, and I now have my VX-8R, about six months later than Yaesu said at the show.

  • God I wish our show was on the grand scale of this one.Icom can't be arsed to plug antennas in their display rigs.Yaesu didn't bother turning up to our main Donington Park show.I will make the trip from the uk to Dayton.I hope that Alpha linear amp had been turned off for a while ....That guy was too close to some fatal voltages if not (I guess they have interlocks on them...Hi Hi).....73's and good DX DAVE (M0OGY) North Lincs UK

  • You will enjoy Dayton.

  • Wrong! The hobby is dying because of the internet and all the important "games" that must be played. Also, cell phones attributed to the decline of ham operators. But, just be in a hurricane or blizzard when all means of communications are down. Hams can be a vital communication link! Sure they're busy bodies.. They stay busy! Do you???

  • yeah im 13 i got my radio license. I told my dad he should get into it he said why i could call my friend with my cell phone. Kj4mrc 73's

  • Hey, klutzking, you are miles ahead of most teens. You have a brain. Keep up the good work.

    KB6FBE

  • Thank you.

  • Sounds like someone wasn't able to pass his license exam...

  • Great video. Keeps my attention during watching. Good timing

  • BTW, a few people there were familiar with your vids. You're (in)famous :)

  • Ya, there were a bunch.

  • it's september, where is the vx-8 ?

  • That is a question that many on the yahoo VX-8 group are asking too! Randy

  • licensing hang-up perhaps ? bugs ?

I'm on the precipice of purchasing an HT and wish this were an option; will probably go ahead with the FT6 then.

  • F6A, sorry.

  • I'm headed to the convention in mesa this weekend. Plan to grill the Yaesu guys on the vx8r.

  • See if you can get a data sheet! Good luck. I hope that Yaesu guys know more about this radio now. Randy

  • Just got back from the Mesa show. Very slick.

No data sheets on the vx8. Depending on which rep I asked, I was told there was 1) firmware problems being ironed out, or 2) hang-ups with fcc approval. Release date: Rep 1: 3-4 weeks. Rep 2: 3-4 MONTHS. So, who the hell knows! lol.

  • Now October

  • Thanks for all of the excellent videos Randy. This was my 4th year of going to Dayton with my brother. Hope to be there in 2009 as well, Lord willing!

  • Great camera work. You captured the essence of Dayton INSIDE

  • I am sorry i accidentally put in the wrong rate i don't know how to take it back if any one knows pls reply great vid if i can i will give it a 5 stars

  • Thanks Randy. Never been to Dayton and this video tells it all. You have done a great job helping hams, especially with the PSK31 and other helpful videos.

  • That Western guy said "Shachousan" to the Japanese guy. Very cute.

  • Hey Randy, thanks for sharing with those of us who have not been to dayton hamvention! I'm excited for that VX-8r coming out, I love my VX-7r so the 8 should be pretty amazing! I'm also impressed with Icom for once with the "rugged-ness" of their new radio coming out!

  • Wow, see you there next year. If my health was better I'd been there this year.

    Darn luck.

  • Nice video, both, as usual :-)

    The Collins van! WOW !
