Back in the 80's it was the big 4: Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer. They were the pioneers and innovators in the metal arena at that time. Now I think it should be the big 5: Aeon, Behemoth, Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, and Nile. In my opinion, best five overall bands in extreme metal for a while now. They've influenced so many musicians and yet they cannot be recreated. They are truly unique and one of a kind.
