  • uraken is most powerful if you are!

  • Beautiful techniques. Thank you for the movies.

And: Don't care for the idiots. :-)

  • very good

  • Well if we are just talking about the force generated by the movement, Uraken is probably the strongest punching technique in Shotokan Karate. Though is not as precise as a common Tsuki, there have been people who have actually killed using this attack, because it targets a very vulnerable part of the head.

  • It's interesting how all the haters react. This guy is a top Karate master and Karate itself is a century proven martial art. If this or any move doesn't work for anyone, I'm willing to put money on the table that it has been not performed correctly as opposed to it not actually working.

  • @Junjokar I've trained with him and many others - but I still realise that uraken is a fairly useless technique. Kagawa and other karate masters are amazing at what they do - but they do hide behind a thick layer of bullshit as well.

  • @jitteryjoe i knocked out 2 people with uraken tehnique

  • @casian004 Was that simultenously? Sosoku-uraken-uchi? XD

  • I've rarely seen this technique work, but often felt it :)

  • yea i dont want to dogg karate but im not sure that technique could work.

  • @nynosix fair objection. trust me when i tell you, i have no agenda, and i've seen it work.

  • @nynosix back fists work just fine, it's all about when you throw it and how well you throw it. It was my best technique before i got my elbows hurt a while ago in a freak accident. You obviously wouldn't throw it in an exaggerated stance when you do it for real, but believe me, it's VERY effective, and very fast.

  • @bloodriotiori Unfortunately the mechanics of the strike make it fairly shite for anything but annoying with speed. If you throw it Shotokan style, turning the hips back as you throw the backfist in the other direction you generate no power other than the arm. You're turning your shoulder AWAY from the strike; and your arm can't extend further than your elbow.

It's great for competition - but it's not a damaging technique.

  • @jitteryjoe eh i don't throw my backfists in this exaggerated way, even in training. I throw it very similar to a jab, except with the back of my hand obviously, it snaps very hard. In one of the few instances i actually had to defend myself for real, it was one of the first things my body did, and i did it in such a way that the guy i hit with it reeled back grabbing the side of his head (hit him in the temple). It gave me enough time to hit him in the throat and end it.

  • @jitteryjoe I thought that you threw the shoulder (on the same side of the technique) into the strike? Utilising the lower stances of Shotokan by pushing the weight onto the front leg and into the hit?

  • @Endymion2357 Pushing your lead shoulder forwards like you would in a kizami-zuki - and like Kagawa is demonstrating here - does nothing to add power to your strike. If your shoulder isn't moving in the same direction as a strike - sideways in this case - your bodyweight is not in the strike.

  • Lightning fast. And what precision!
