  • forget the video. this song is great! wats your alibiiiiiii

  • sung by Americans, who from Cuba,Canada ,Peru,Brazil, etc or which part of the

    American CONTINENT.

  • chick is sorta hot if you like chicks with big ass noses that are useless for breathing out of, because it's apparent she's breathing through her mouth, which is crowded with teeth...I'd hit it.

  • Great work!! Your video really captures the feeling that this song creates. Again... great work!!

  • this version is embarrassing, leave this song to be sung by Americans please

  • @tedharris1975 i`m american and this sounds good so just hush

  • I love the Lefty Frizzell version of this, but it is a bit to mello. The version of the Chieftons is much more of an anchent type which I like. BUT BEST OF ALL IS YOUR VIDIO !!!! It is such a beautiful meaningful methode that you designed. I very rarely see such wonderful personlally made video's like this. I have to give you 5 stars.

  • check the nose on that chick!!!

  • Loved it....it has always been a powerful song and your video nicely augments it.

  • great song

  • another incredible version of one of the great folk songs of all time. Williewonk

The cheiftans can make anyone sound better

They are the timeless best irish talent!!!!!

  • Very different presentation but powerful. I loved it. Thanks for sharing your work.

  • Love this! A great job!

  • mhirst16, thanks for posting this!

You made a great effort and got better than good results. I like the modern twist of current clothing, styles and the setting.

The veil is rather dramatic and downright gothic! ...I like it because (imho) it adds a link to the past.

Congrats!!! I hope you got an A+++

Up the Chieftains !!! (as in "thumbs up") the best traditional band of Erie! (imho)

  • i think it was a great video..thanks for posting it.

  • awesome teriffic a million times perfect but i like the country one better

  • Levon was and still is the best (The Band) but way to go Mick and The Chieftains !!

  • For the love of god if you're using final cut at least render shit.

    it's not hard.

  • that beak on her is cute as hell!!

  • that is heck of a nose,

  • Good job

  • nice job. just an fyi for any fans of this song, it's from the album of the same name. Mick from the rolling stones is the singer on this one.

  • Great job!

  • my grandpashowed me this song when i was drinkin and i love it along with "hang your head tom dooley" by the kingston trio

  • must say reminds me of when i visted my grandmother in new foundland always had my mom and dad sing it mom sings it better than jagger.

this song is the only song to make me cry every time i hear it its beautiful.

  • Edgar Allan Poe is probably rolling in his grave saying "Geez great song " and it is

  • I'm not a Jagger fan, and grew up loving Lefty Frizzel's recording of this haunting song..but I have to say, I love this interpretation. Beautiful!!!

  • Great ! Love it, so haunting. Does anyone know where I can get a long black veil like that? I got somewhere to walk, too.

  • lol, love the wolfe tones version of this song lots better..but GREAT VIDEO!

  • Top of the class. Bono is supposedly in the mix as well!

  • Some of the graveyard scenes are the best.

  • Interesting idea!

  • Aside from the blue Unrendered screens, I liked this a lot. Nice work. I hope your professor gave you a good grade.

  • is that mick jagger singing?

  • yep, it's Mick.

  • i love this song, i personally think that this video, could be the official video.

  • ya all ARE wrong it was writen by a ghost that this actualy happened to it might have come from

the living but the ghost came through and toldem wat to sing this is a true story that happened a long time ago you dont have to belive but i used to be the ghost and i know becous i was there

hope ya all can get it

  • For all you young fols out there. This song was actaully written by a great talent named William "Lefty" Frizzell he wrote this in "1959" enjoy. and you owe it to yourself to listen to all of his stuff.

  • Actually, It was written for Lefty, by two Nashville song writers. I can't recall their names.

  • Yes that is correct I meant recorded by...their names were Dill and Wilkin. I believe Wilkin was female who actually wrote it the melody was Dill's...I stand corrected

  • I saw the chieftains and sarah mclachlan doing this on tv about 15 years ago, if anyone has any info would appreciate it....jagger does this great

  • Mick Jagger does a great job on this song I use to sing to anyone who would listen when I was in college in Houston. Was a Bobby Bear (spelling) recoding I first heard.

  • omg really cool..i wish i could make something this awesome!

  • Of course you can...I recommend music videos as the place to start, because for the most part it doesn't require capturing audio in the field. You just have the song that you play under the video like in this one

  • great job, i pictured the gravesite part like just like this on this video

    good job

  • This was beautiful. I love old country it has so much soul. This is one of my favorite songs along with Kern River, Sunday Morning Comming Down,Seven Spanish Angels, and The Highwaymen. Long live the ability to write and sing a real song. God bless em!!

  • This isn't an Irish folk song. It was written by an American woman who also wrote a lot of Nashville hits. Can't remember her name but I read her obituary [ I think she died last year].

  • What is that subliminal message flashing across the screen?

  • Like you, I thought it was a cheesy subliminal message, but I managed to freeze frame on itand it turns out that it ISN'T a subliminal message, but the word UNRENDERED. In other words, they told the software to do a transition (probably a slow fade) and the software didn't render it -- hence the warning message. Too bad they didn't fix this -- it ruins an otherwise decent little home music video.

  • it's not a subliminal message...it says unrendered. What happened was that where it says that- it's supposed to be a transition like a dissolve or a fade. However, to upload a video here on youtube, you need to compress it...and in doing so, I lost the transitions and a lot of visual quality...hence why it looks so grainy.

  • I've heard this song recorded by the Kingston Trio (1960s) and later by Johnny Cash. It's an interesting song although this version here is much slower than the ones by KT and JC.

  • This is an old Irish folk song, I doubt anyone knows who first sang it. I don't know who first recorded it. There are better versions to this song than this one. Mick is an interesting choice to sing this.

  • does anyone know who first sang this song?

  • Left frizzle, 1959. Wrote the song, I was surprised too, I thought it was an ancient song, it's been remade more n a dozen times, an instant classic.

  • This isnt the Internally renouned band THE Cheiftains, these guys sound American(southern)

  • No phoenix, it really is the internationally renowned band THE Chieftains. With Mick Jaggar of the Rolling Stones singing. Look up the 1995 album, and next time check the previous comments that explain all of that before you try to correct the video poster and his information!

  • I wasnt correcting anything, i was asking a question, and forgot to put????? at the end, is that ok with u, wat sort of chip have u got on ur shoulder mate???????????????????????????????????? Ok now that is a direct question

  • You forgot a question mark, I forgot a smiley face. No chip on my shoulder, just telling you who does the music. No hard feelings man.

    :)

  • stereyo typing me as a mick might not help!!!

  • you dumb fucker...he didnt call you a mick...he was talking about mick jagger. as for sounding like a southern song ( which in america, we call country music ), the song was written by a country musician named lefty frizzel, and made famous by "internationally reknowned johnny cash" i think mick jagger was trying to capture the country essence of the song. oh...and he and the chieftans made an awesome track together.

  • I wrote that comment @ 1 oclock sun morn i was slightly the worse for wear ill admit, but listen mate, if u have something to say say it without profanic name calling, calling someone a "dumb fuck" shows ur arrogance and primitiveness!!!!!

  • say what you like, youre an idiot. sometimes "primitiveness" is necessary when dealing with primitive people

  • LOL man ur back after a year to start something, get a life seriously???!

  • and yet you reply as well...still cant admit youre wrong. youre a fucking idiot, you were born one, and you will die one. thats the sad truth.

  • get a LIFE!!!!

  • u should take your own advice

  • phonex1916 you are a wanker

  • U MUST PLAY WITH YOURSELF, UR snake u know???

  • Audio is terrific and properly emotional. Video not so.

  • Unbelievable awesome song...this whole Cd is brilliant !

  • Love The Song!

  • Mick Jagger and the Chieftains, what a great combination!

  • thank you for the fantastic music you put on you-tube!! As a fan I want to ask you this: do you know the number EMIGRATION THEME? I'm searching for a very long time for this number/album. Please help me and sorry for my broken english,

    Tilly

  • nice job--great song--i think the chieftains' version is the best of all.

  • Great project, and a great song by M. Jagger and the Chieftains

  • Yes it is a Young Mick.I have this Chieften's record somewhere, and a tape of Gaelic music, that includes Marrianne Faithful singing when love gets older.I like this version.I didn't know the song was from 1959, and by Lefty Frizel. When I use dto listen to it by Mick, I thought it was a much older song.

Thanks for the video!!!That black weil is a spooky touch!

  • "Young Mick"? They recorded this in 1995, according to the liner notes. That'd put him over 50 at the time, right? Is there some other version I'm not aware of?

  • I think it's an old Mick. He was featured on the Chieftains' 1995 record "Long Black Veil" with a lot of other big pop names. It's possible there is another version, I suppose, but I doubt it.

  • Thats Mick Jagger Singing with the the Chieftans

  • Wonderful video reinactment... I love this song

and your visual images bring the lyrics to life....

    Thank you *sheri*

  • Its a great video, i like it

  • cool, I love this song.

  • very good!
