There was a simulaion that was much closer to the movie, but no one knows about it. I have a copy of the game for my C64 and it's very tense as the Russians then American's searching for you! Very detailed sub simulation I can recommend!
The giant missile submarine of the movie or the book was not exactly known for its dolphin like agility and speed. If it really happened like this then the movie would have been completely of a different sort.
Every day somebody brings this game up is another day Tom Clancy prays somebody would keep this particular secret... or dig a large hole next to the grave of ET and bury every last copy of this game next to that game).
And yes, I so played this back in the day so I can totally criticize it 'cause I experienced it.
The NES version really sucks, while the Gameboy version is pretty decent. I haven't played this one, the SNES version, yet. As far as I can see from the video it seems to be a whole lot easier than both 8-bit versions, but this could be misleading (seeing a video and playing a game are two different things).
The graphics are better on this one, of course, although I don't really like the looks of the Red October in this version. Looks like a toy submarine :D
WOW!! you were a submariner!! I want to be one. Getting a lot of gip from classmates but WTF. Not trying to outsmart you stefan but to inform everybody else: Bearing notes on the story line, in the film and the book there is no illegal arms operation. Also the Red October doesn't destroy any ships or subs.
obviously but u must realise every movie must have conflict of some kind. The game alot of BS that a sub would never partake in. I do like however how they portray sub-to-sub combat in the movie very realistic
Aaah, no bearring on reality at all. I'm an old fart. But I do Know that subs have no more than 12 or 16 torpedoes. I also know , Ah hell, You don't care. You kids don''t give a damn about reality. I'm an old sub sailor. Tell me you know more about subs than I do! =Stefan=
honestly this is a real mockery of subs indeed u and i both know that the Red October was a typhoon class MISSLE! submarine it carried less torps then a attack sub. Typhoons were meant to be as quiet as the Ohio class boomers ( for all u non navy guys a boomer is a missle sub) Also missles cant be used as sub to sub weapons. and i dont think a boomer can turn decend or rise that fast
Ha ha. Yeah the Red October was a type 7 typhoon class ballistic missle sub. But this is just a game. Most people don't know very much about subs. V2 Tech Sonar Tech. US Navy
@chengloki I read the book the sub had more than 12-16 subs war isn't the same as it was back in world war two it is no more modern than what people had in their wildest dreams back then
@kornkid89 Silent Service was co-op capable, as the gun deflection, oil debris, emergency ballast, and other actions were executed with the second player controller. However, that was only for the NES.
Beethoven's 9th sounds surprisingly good in midi.

Did the makers of the game even watch the movie?

Is there a movie where the crew of a submarine die as it sinks to the bottom of the sea?
like a movie where the crew die in the end
I am tired of watching the ones where they get rescued.
Please let me know guys

Why can't I find a video for the NES version?!
The only one I did find, the player SUCKED! 'nesguide' my ASS! He didn't make a Level 2 video cause he probably couldn't beat it.
I just couldn't figure out how to beat the boss. I think it was a submarine...
But compared to the 15,000 ton Red October, it was the size of a CITY!!!

Most games based on movies suck, but this game doesn't even try to tie in with the film other than by name. It has nothing to do with the film.
