this is so wonderful....berlin wrote this on i believe. what a great version. thanks. i think i commented earlier, but i listened to this again and had to say it again. thank you.
Wonderful song, wonderful sound, wonderful band. What a marvellous decade was the thirties, despite depression. The greatest hollywood movies and much of the classic popular music.
Thankyou! This is a wonderful arrangement ! I love George Olsens band! I tell the story of this song on my newly added Dick Powell version! Its so dreamy!
Your reply made me feel very welcome. Thank you! I think what you're doing by adding songs from each year is great. This is the only place to hear these wonderful orchestras. I'm partial to one particular period - - 1927 to 1935. The sounds of those orchestras in that period thrill me. Tommy
Added to my 1932 playlist, Tommy, I see your new, welcome! I've made playlists for every year from 1900 to today, music like this, to take a trip back in time to any past year. Relive the sounds of the day with the click of your mouse. I'm always adding to the lists, goal is to make each play at least 2 hours. Enjoy!!!
Lovely recording of a wonderful song. 5* For the definitive version listen to Annette Hanshaw (on edmundusrex YT channel) - this really touches the heart.
One of the greatest songs of all time,I tear up as it mirrors my own life experience and the sadness of George and Ethel's failed marriage.Irving Berlin truly was a musical genius and that is so!!!!
I have this scroll label Victor also. WOW what a great record at the Zenith of Olson's Career. Great Paul Small vocal. I love this song so much, I found a Karaoke version with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks as the Back up. I sing this song at Karaoke too. Story of my life
I always get the names John Gilbert and Gilbert Roland mixed up. Anyway, she was a real beauty, just gorgeous. I can't believe that is Melvyn Douglas, he really fell apart! :)
One more time. Sorry Grzegorz, it does not post. :(
I love this one too! You certainly have presented some very romantic photos. I especially love Garbo and Roland at 1:10 (so sensuous) and I would love to know the story about the couple at 1:50. Is he angry at her? Poor thing..... Oh, and, I love the song too!

Great! My dad played reeds for George Olsen, for a while. My understanding is that Mr. Olsen was a band leader and business man but not a musician. He fonted the band but did not play. He looked like he was conducting but wasn't. I used to have one of the band's jackets; bright yellow with an artificial bright blue boutonnière in a lapel. Nice band and thanks for posting this. More memories for me.

This song just breaks me up every time I hear it. I like this better than the Charlie Palloy version.

So as in true or real; a fact. Like are you really going to Guatemala, etc? Or is it so that too many pierogies will make a person fat?
