This happened on my 7th birthday...I'll never forget all that I saw. Mom and dad had 8 children and we all ran for the mountain side, to safety. I'm just thankful that none of us were lost that day. But at least 125 were lost and I pray still for all their families. This is something that never leaves a person. It truly is the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. All could have been avoided. This is the sadist thing of all. God Bless all the survivors. Thank you to the poster of this.
I remember, sadly, and with much heartache! It was one of the most horrifying moments of my life! I was not in it but my grandma, aunt and two cousins were caught in it, but thank God, they survived it! I am so thankful to whomever is responsible for this post.
I wish to say Thank You so much to who ever posted this....You will never know how much it means to me and my brothers and sisters,,,We had never seen this before and thats my dad,Everett Adkins talking about that horrible day in February 1972,..My dad is dead now and seeing him on here talking was a blessing to us ,..My sister Tammy and my son Bill Edward is sitting there with dad and a neighbor on Buffalo Creek, Ronnie Smith.
God bless you and your family. Our family was lucky as well on that fateful morning, we didn't lose anyone to the flood. My Dad saved quite a few people that morning. He is a real life hero, he put his life in danger to save a woman and her children who had no idea what was a bout to happen.

Same thing now with Massey! They are destroying our mountains. Shame. I hate to hear people say that if you ban mountaintop removal it will cost jobs..no it would create more jobs because the company will get the coal..believe that. They would just have to hire many more to go underground and get the coal,it would take longer and that would be better for the workers and the environment. Just wait until there are no more mountains and see how good and how much Massey cares about ya.
Why not? Disasters (man made and natural) have no preference when it comes to destroying towns, cities, states or countries. By the way, the United States of America is a Republic, not a Democracy.
