Choke is my favorite book, and Palahniuk is by far the best satirist out there, but i hope the movie doesnt ruin it, as it always does. Looks good though, im definately gonna see it.
i remember by the third page in i was like "this could be a really interesting movie." then, i visited barnes and noble about three days later and saw a little sticker on the book (choke) saying "soon to be a motion picture." i thought it would be really disappointing...but after seeing some of the trailers...i'm a little bit less disappointed. none of the characters looked like i imagined them though...except for paige...a little bit...
I read this book on a road trip, and to all of you people who are saying that it doesn't look like a very good movie, I say this.
I don't think Chuck intended on having it made into a movie. It's not as if there were that many climactic moments of the book, to make an interesting movie out of.
It's not that the director is doing a bad job...it's that Choke is probably just a really hard book to convert into a movie. There I said my piece.
but why would we need the second fight club? tho, I agree, I imagined it all much darker... probably, we should just wait and see what is the whole thing like, may be it all kicks off outside trailer?? :)
ooooh, and i cant wait for snuff, UK book release in august x
It's been a while since I read choke, but to all those thinking it's should have a similar look and intesity like fight club, you have the wrong proclivity. As I remember, Choke had more levity to it. While Fight Club had a quasi-manifesto about society and revolution, Choke was a more humorous buddy piece if you will about a con-artist/sexaholic and his dipshit friend. Fincher did a great job of bringing the book to life, but I'm going to be patient with this one.
I agree. It definitely shouldn't be like "Fight Club".
However, if ou'll remember, it does have a bit more darkness to it than just a buddy comedy (although it is probably Palahniuk's funniest work). Victor has the whole idea of "what Jesus would do."
Also, all of the flashback parts with his mother are pretty dark.
Almost done reading the book right now. Wow, after you see the movie you see the charaters in the book differently. I will never imagine any of the characters looking like this. They are taking this book and blowing steaming stool on it. Look at fight club. Without a doubt it measures up to the book. This... this is a meager attempt.
If this is getting sold to Fox, they should do a complete overhaul and get some better actors and a director like Fincher.
i read the book and i was fascinated with all the characters and of course, the story. but, after seeing trailers a couple minutes ago, i was completely disappointed. ]:
chuck palahniuk knows thats this movie isnt gonna do very well.
I'm hoping that this is just a "rough version" of the film. Not only does this guy look like he has no idea what even went on in the book, but his idea that he could be the only one to make the film is wrong. The movie is darker and more complex then what he makes it out to be.
Fuck really looks so bad... it's so sad to me look at this. When i read the novel i've tought it was very visual for a motion picture. Now someone came and fuck it... I'll be sad this afternoon...
Why would you take a Palahniuk novel and make it into a film that looks aesthetically like "The Breakfast Club" - it's light, it's 80's looking, and it's NOTHING like the book.
I agree. I don't know where he got the idea that no one else would want to turn it into a film and I really don't know where he got the idea that he's the one for the job.
the book is nice but this looks like total shit. i mean if i would imagine it the worst it can be it would look like this. compare this to fight club and you see even more how shitty this looks
oh man this looks so bad "hey lets pick the worst actor ever and have the movie looking a lot lighter then it is" Damit this was a very dark book. and i know im going to see this movie and i know im going to hate it. but at least i read the book before this dumbass destroyed it
I can't really think of any similarities between Choke and Fight Club. Different tones, different themes, different personalities. The only thing the two have in common is the writing style, and that's just because it's Palahniuk's voice. Every author has a voice that makes their books easily identifiable, but these similarities rarely lead to the work as a whole being a carbon copy of previous novels.

i didn't care for diary, it was kind of boring. but survivor...number 1 of all of his books. then probably choke or invisible monsters.
joeyboulregard 3 years ago 2
Survivor is definitely his best in my opinion. His latest, Snuff, is probably the absolute worst.
