It's hilarious to see people fighting about futbol, football and American football, when no one seems to realize the sport has been around a lot longer than all that. I have very low interest in both EU and US football, but the fact is that "football" is more suiting for the EU one. In EU FB, you actually kick the ball during the entire game, unless you're the goalie. In US FB, they rarely kick the it at all. I don't know what the rules are, but I just saw ten minutes of US FB footage without a single kick. I saw someone saying below that it was more kicking many years ago, but then perhaps you should change the name, since kicking is a small part of it now.

Football was called football to highlight the kicks (yes, foot to ball) that dominated the earliest versions of the sport. Kicking is limited in the present form, but was much more part of the game 150+ years ago when the sport had diverged into "kicking" and "running" versions. Look it up.

Plain and simple, European association football was around long before American football was invented. How they got away with stealing the name I will never know. That would be the same as inventing a new sport with different rules and playing surfaces as well as balls and calling it basketball or hockey. The sport under that name has already been defined with laws and a playoff format. You can't just start a new sport and steal the name.

I have very low interest in both EU and US football, but the fact is that "football" is more suiting for the EU one. In EU FB, you actually kick the ball during the entire game, unless you're the goalie. In US FB, they rarely kick the it at all. I don't know what the rules are, but I just saw ten minutes of US FB footage without a single kick. I saw someone saying below that it was more kicking many years ago, but then perhaps you should change the name, since kicking is a small part of it now.

Football was called football to highlight the kicks (yes, foot to ball) that dominated the earliest versions of the sport. Kicking is limited in the present form, but was much more part of the game 150+ years ago when the sport had diverged into "kicking" and "running" versions. Look it up.

Plain and simple, European association football was around long before American football was invented. How they got away with stealing the name I will never know.
