You are indeed a good player. I play aok a lot but I end up consuming at least 21 minutes or more to reach castle age. But one thing you should've done (in post-imp) is start eating collecting resources from his base. Build a castle near his stockpile of gold and build a TC or a mine (as you wanna). This way even if he manages to push you back you would have eaten away his part of resources and he will starve anyway. Anyway, nice gameplay DUDE \m/

@PhildeKilla well for starters they have no cavalry. Aztecs make up for that with their Unique Research which boosts their attack. Mayan monks are fucking terrible too, some of the crucial researches in the monastery aren't there. Arbalests are cheaper than plumed archers, and you can kill the former and the latter with onagers or knights.
maybe i missed it, but did you built any lumber or mining camps? of course it's also efficient to just build town centers near wood, gold and stone, but what about the upgrades lumber and mining camps give you? do they really increase your economy or is it better just to build more villagers (from the extra town centers)?

I never knew the AI cheated... No wonder you can't look at the replay and learn anything substantial from it. I always thought they had some seriously optimized build orders... Bleh. Hopefull this tutorial helps me stomp the AI some. I doubt it though, since I'm not very good. XD

I downloaded a hack to make AOE2 run in any resolution (I run it at 1920 x 1080) do a search for AoE2Wide_0.1.zip - does anyone who has used this know if it works online? (it also fixes the ugly colours bug)
@3oMethylmorphine Unless you're using the Voobly supported widescreen mod (it's free to use for unranked matches) then no it will not work online. Most clients check for hacks of any type and will not let you play online, however you should be able to play with just your friends over TCIP or Lan just fine.
I love the Goths because of their infantry bonuses. That is actually my strategy, just mass producing infantry once I research Perfusion to increase Barracks work rates.
Lol your voice sounds a lot like Trasknari's. Also, I remember when I grew up, the only two RTS's that I would play would be this and the Command and Conquer series.
@DE3V0N It's used for resource trading and as a cheap building to advance to the Castle Age with. If you want to quickly reach the Castle Age you'd want to build a Blacksmith and Market because an Archery Range or Stable require a Barracks and therefore a Market and Blacksmith are cheaper. :) Also you can sell your stone at the market to get enough gold to advance if you feel like it.
I DID have problems playing moderates back when I was a kid playing this.
After I came back I tried again, this time with 3 separate computers, didn't take me long to realize I forgot to Un-ally them (change the team numbers)
Had I not completely farmed myself out of gold by my third full raid, I would have swept them! But alas, not a day to accidentally fight 3v1 moderates.
I've seen that when you begin to attack you didn't have to break a wall, another thing that makes it easier, I don't know which civ is the computer, I think is goth, and that was why he didn't has wall and he has lot of bad towers.
His economy seen's to be very bad because he just have 3 castles and you only have to kill 137 units, hardest use to have 7-.8-9 castles and lot of trops (Is that right?)
-Less times, they try to pass quick over the ages, it's like the first but thet have a very bad economy, it was the one of the video, they attack you 1 o 2 times and then no more because they have just a few workers and they use all their resources in less necesary things.
To teach how to beat a hardest player i think you could try to record a game vs a fast player who attacks you lot of times.
Hi, i've seen the video and I think that you select the worse example that you could take. I've play lot of times vs hardest and I've learn that there are three diferent kinds of hardest computer:
-Most Common, it passes over the ages quick and attack you in 15 minutes and almost every 2 minutes. (Not this time)
-Sometimes, they don't attack you until they are on imperial and they have a lot, easy because you have lot of time to prepare, they have a good economy (not this time)
I have a problem. every Time i start the game i play normally but the grass and ocean has very ugly looking. I dont know what that is happening and another question. Do you know any good way to get lot of food ? its the only problem i have so far and of course graphic please help !
@MrCwaniaczek There are 3rd party programs that can fix that problem, but to fix it manually, when the game is launched just press Ctrl Alt Delete to open task manager and then end the process explorer.exe. That will fix your in game colors, although you will have to run explorer.exe when you are done playing if you want to see your desktop. :)

@MrCwaniaczek If farms aren't giving you enough food you need to make more farms. :) Farms are a constant and reliable source of food, but to get a quick burst of food that won't last, try hunting animals like Deer and Boar. That is how people advance quicker. And no sheep won't reproduce no matter what you do, they are the same thing as a farm if the farm only had 100 food and wasn't able to be rebuilt.
@MrCwaniaczek its also because you are probably running something higher thean windows XP, ..if you have vista or windows 7, the game is so out dated that the colors get messed up
@southafrica685 Just look at your resources and ask yourself what you are low on, then create more villagers to work on that one. If you have too much of one resource and too little of another, send some villagers from the resource you have a lot of to work on the one you lack. Economies always match your needs, so if you are spamming knights you will need more farmers and more miners than someone who is spamming infantry. :)
@Ilumiknight Dude you're skilled but really lol Spanish is by far the most powerful civilization and the Goths are one of the worst, tied with Mayans for last place. Please post a commentary where it's hardest and you both use the same civilization. I like your work though, good job :)
@69NAWAR69 Mayans are really good imo. their economy is great and their plumed archers are a fast and cheap unit. I don't see what is so bad about them.
@Dragon858821 You can easily get it from just joining a Green Arabia game and then the map will download it automatically. I'm not exactly sure where else you can get it though. :)
@Ilumiknight I have tried to record some AoE2 games i have played. I am using a program called PalettestealerSuspender to get the grass green and water blue, and no color bugs. But when i use it i can't record with fraps? Do u have a idea? =)
@CrimsonSun88 Flanking with pikemen can work, camels can also work really well. A couple Siege Onagers can also do the trick. If you're saracens you will eat right through war wagons. :)
Yeah thats pretty typical for Britons. Cavalry would work really nicely in that situation, especially paladins. Siege Onagers are very effective at taking out the archers and the trebuchets. That's always a hard army type to beat. :) Some civilizations have it easier with that type of army.
Great naration, but I'm wondering, whenever i play, the comp attacks at around 10 minutes, I am usually building vilagers at that point, and have no army, what do i do then?

Another nice way of beating the hardest computer is building precocely two towers and a barrack around its farms. Without military units yet, computer will atack with its big number of villagers; that´s a good oportunity to force its farms with 'man at arms'. He will be probably in the imperial age and you in the feudal, but it´s sufficient to destroy its 'town center' to win the game.
@USERNAMEKLEMPTOR 50-50 is usually a good idea most of the time. :) It can change depending on what you are trying to do but I'd shoot for a 50-50. Maybe 60-40 if you need the cash.
@ztejas13 The computer does not cheat on any difficult except hardest. If his score is higher than yours it can be a number of factors. Assuming you are not being wasteful it is possible to be ahead of the computer's score the whole game. :)
can you play with your friends if you have voobly and they either have it "Taurened" (or whatever that is, like they download it a different way) or they have the disc version? can you still play with them or does everyone have to be on voobly?
@Jensen24bball I believe the term you are looking for is Torrented. And yes anyone who is using a pirated version of the game can play on Voobly. Anyone who has a disk or is pirated can play. And yes everyone has to be on voobly. I made a detailed tutorial video on how to use it which you can find on my channel. :)
@Jensen24bball Nope, it's a client program. There are hundreds of them out there for your favorite games. Voobly itself poses no risk. If it did why would thousands of players be using something that harms their computer. :D It's free to use, but as with most things you can pay for extra features. You have nothing to worry about. :)
if your playing on a match thats got a 75 pop limit how do u balance military and economy i tried going for 35 villigers and my army got destroyed and i tried going for less and i got destroyed in economy is there so trick i dont know about?
@TheBhje It's more about straetgy, remember towers and castles don't increase population, utilize these defensive buildings and build them at chokepoints to cut down troops, the rest of your troops should be used to "clean up" the rest of the leftover troops.

what are your thoughts on upgrades prior to the castle age? Also when do you start building up your military? I play with the Brits (love the archers cuz of gold and wood) and use two-handed swordsmen (food and gold) but I struggle with timing...
@stabbedabbe It really depends on what you want to do as the civilization you are. If you were going to make Archers and etc in the Feudal Age then you would want to get Fletching and Padded Archer Armor (whichever the upgrades are at the blacksmith) and you would probably want to research wheelbarrow, double bit axe and etc. So if you plan on staying in that age to fight then getting upgrades is a good idea, but if you're for example wanting to get out of Feudal fast then its not necessary. :)
@Ilumiknight you should start uploading your games for download. I suck at this game and I find it hard to learn with your videos because view lock really sucks. Would really appreciate it :)
How do you stop war elephants? I tried building watch towers like the video said, but the hardest ai had 2 war elephants attacking, and I did not even have a tower built. I lost villagers building the tower, but it did not help. I barely got to the fudal age, so nothing I really had helped.
@LegendShadesXiphius Well to beat the Hardest computer you need to be fast and precise. However the usual spamming of spearmen and camels work wonders on war elephants. Putting watch towers behind your town center and putting spearmen near your town center should keep him off. Keep trying you'll eventually get it. :D PS: Try to keep your town center always working, it makes you build up faster.
When I play random maps 4vs4 with the AI on medium/hard, my allies don't attack unless provoked (they don't even build a military most of the times), while the enemies spam units and gang up on me at the first chance they get. Is it normal?
@0NoName9 Well the computer player for this game is generally pretty stupid and usually makes a lousy teammate. That's why there are a bunch of really good Custom Ais for this game that are so much better (IS_Machine4.2). You can always order your allies to attack by typing 31 and pressing enter though. The computer player will almost always go after the "strongest" player on the other team, so if you're that player (congrats :D) then it's time for war haha.
@Ilumiknight I've checked out and installed the IS_Machine AI, and played the usual game. Everyone walled themselves in and built towers in a smart way, my Persian ally spammed elephants and gave hell to its neighbor, and my Mayan and Korean teammates went all the way across the map with onagers, rams, trebs, and special units to attack the Persian's neighbor. It was epic, a massacre.
Then I realized the new AI wasn't enabled. The vanilla AI must have gotten scared of being replaced it seems.
@0NoName9 Hahaha fantastic. :D The vanilla ai can be very inconsistent if you haven't noticed. Sometimes it plays like a God, other times well, it's hilarious!
@afgwogsta Oh there's a long list of things so I'll just give you a brief list of some changes. There's a new bunch of campaigns, 5 new civilizations, a ton of new technologies, lots of balancing chances, many new units, smarter villager ai, smarter computer players, more maps, more scenario editor features, smarter onagers, new features (farms can now reseed themselves if you pay the wood early). :D It's definitely a great expansion that serves to make what was great even greater.

Harassing the other players villagers to keep them from gathering resources, right? What if they're the type of computer that mass-build castles? How would I deal with villagers that run back to the castle and decimate my harassing army?
@DualKnifeBlade in early game u can easyly destroy castles with knights, because ur enemy doesnt "learned" murder holes in university....i did this many times and it worked very well...
god i cant beat the computer in a 1v1 on hard. if i focus on a defensive army, they jack the relics, if i go for the relics they rape my base. i can hold out for a long long time but the computer works me over!

at first i hunt alittle around the town center. i usally try to get double supply of gold and food main focus. adnvacne to castle age already having 2+ stables and go all out on knights attcak with those. should i mix some archer's and infantry in there?
@DoNaLcOsTeLlO Yes like I've said before Game Ranger is extremely picky with its connections so maybe its not the right program for you. Download Voobly instead (Ilumiknight referred you) and you should be able to play online just fine. :)
Is it possible to make like a step by step explanation video on how to start. i always struggle with the beginning. I have read a complete guide of it, but it would be very helpful to see it in a video. I can beat computer on hard. but thats when it's on 1v1v1. 1v1 = total fail. for some reason, i always struggle with the wood, mainly for buildings being so expensive (175 wood etc).
I can't really figure out how to get fast enough castle age, do you have any tips for me? Your tip about watchtowers is good, but I'm really struggling with even the moderate computer, which will completely steamroll me once it gets to castle and realizes that I'm still feudal. So, yeah, any help would be appreciated, even if it seems obvious.

To teach how to beat a hardest player i think you could try to record a game vs a fast player who attacks you lot of times.

Hi, i've seen the video and I think that you select the worse example that you could take. I've play lot of times vs hardest and I've learn that there are three diferent kinds of hardest computer:
-Most Common, it passes over the ages quick and attack you in 15 minutes and almost every 2 minutes. (Not this time)
-Sometimes, they don't attack you until they are on imperial and they have a lot, easy because you have lot of time to prepare, they have a good economy (not this time)

I have a problem. every Time i start the game i play normally but the grass and ocean has very ugly looking. I dont know what that is happening and another question. Do you know any good way to get lot of food ? its the only problem i have so far and of course graphic please help !

@MrCwaniaczek There are 3rd party programs that can fix that problem, but to fix it manually, when the game is launched just press Ctrl Alt Delete to open task manager and then end the process explorer.exe. That will fix your in game colors, although you will have to run explorer.exe when you are done playing if you want to see your desktop. :)

If you want to buy food in market than thats fine but prices going up ! each time you buy so i still dont know how to get so much food. Maybe sheeps can because when i click peasent on sheep than he become a pastor. So is that mean that sheeps wil reproduce ?

@MrCwaniaczek If farms aren't giving you enough food you need to make more farms. :) Farms are a constant and reliable source of food, but to get a quick burst of food that won't last, try hunting animals like Deer and Boar. That is how people advance quicker. And no sheep won't reproduce no matter what you do, they are the same thing as a farm if the farm only had 100 food and wasn't able to be rebuilt.

today i played 1x1 against the computer on hard, and i had 2 problems:
1- my troops are not eficient on the atack, i strugled to get some progress in the battle.
2- when the gold mines runs out, its hard to get more by selling the excedent resources in the market, so i'm forced to make weaker troops.
a video talking about how to manage troops and attack strategies would be great.

@southafrica685 Just look at your resources and ask yourself what you are low on, then create more villagers to work on that one. If you have too much of one resource and too little of another, send some villagers from the resource you have a lot of to work on the one you lack. Economies always match your needs, so if you are spamming knights you will need more farmers and more miners than someone who is spamming infantry. :)

Two questions...against my friend.
What do you do against like 60 war wagons? Flank with pikeman or what?
What do you do against 30 brit archers, 20 champions, and 4 trebs marching towards your base....so you have a little time to prepare.
Those two questions assuming you have all most imp age tech.

@CrimsonSun88 Flanking with pikemen can work, camels can also work really well. A couple Siege Onagers can also do the trick. If you're saracens you will eat right through war wagons. :)
Yeah thats pretty typical for Britons. Cavalry would work really nicely in that situation, especially paladins. Siege Onagers are very effective at taking out the archers and the trebuchets. That's always a hard army type to beat. :) Some civilizations have it easier with that type of army.

Another nice way of beating the hardest computer is building precocely two towers and a barrack around its farms. Without military units yet, computer will atack with its big number of villagers; that´s a good oportunity to force its farms with 'man at arms'. He will be probably in the imperial age and you in the feudal, but it´s sufficient to destroy its 'town center' to win the game.

@USERNAMEKLEMPTOR 50-50 is usually a good idea most of the time. :) It can change depending on what you are trying to do but I'd shoot for a 50-50. Maybe 60-40 if you need the cash.

Actually I'm pretty sure the comp cheats on hard just a bit. Pause the game at the very beginning and the comps score is always higher

@ztejas13 The computer does not cheat on any difficult except hardest. If his score is higher than yours it can be a number of factors. Assuming you are not being wasteful it is possible to be ahead of the computer's score the whole game. :)

can you play with your friends if you have voobly and they either have it "Taurened" (or whatever that is, like they download it a different way) or they have the disc version? can you still play with them or does everyone have to be on voobly?

@Jensen24bball I believe the term you are looking for is Torrented. And yes anyone who is using a pirated version of the game can play on Voobly. Anyone who has a disk or is pirated can play. @Jensen24bball Nope, it's a client program. There are hundreds of them out there for your favorite games. Voobly itself poses no risk. If it did why would thousands of players be using something that harms their computer. :D It's free to use, but as with most things you can pay for extra features. You have nothing to worry about. :)

@TheBhje It's more about straetgy, remember towers and castles don't increase population, utilize these defensive buildings and build them at chokepoints to cut down troops, the rest of your troops should be used to "clean up" the rest of the leftover troops.

what are your thoughts on upgrades prior to the castle age? Also when do you start building up your military? I play with the Brits (love the archers cuz of gold and wood) and use two-handed swordsmen (food and gold) but I struggle with timing...

@stabbedabbe It really depends on what you want to do as the civilization you are. If you were going to make Archers and etc in the Feudal Age then you would want to get Fletching and Padded Archer Armor (whichever the upgrades are at the blacksmith) and you would probably want to research wheelbarrow, double bit axe and etc. So if you plan on staying in that age to fight then getting upgrades is a good idea, but if you're for example wanting to get out of Feudal fast then its not necessary. :)

How do you stop war elephants? I tried building watch towers like the video said, but the hardest ai had 2 war elephants attacking, and I did not even have a tower built. I lost villagers building the tower, but it did not help. I barely got to the fudal age, so nothing I really had helped.

@LegendShadesXiphius Well to beat the Hardest computer you need to be fast and precise. However the usual spamming of spearmen and camels work wonders on war elephants. Putting watch towers behind your town center and putting spearmen near your town center should keep him off. Keep trying you'll eventually get it. :D PS: Try to keep your town center always working, it makes you build up faster.

When I play random maps 4vs4 with the AI on medium/hard, my allies don't attack unless provoked (they don't even build a military most of the times), while the enemies spam units and gang up on me at the first chance they get. Is it normal?

@0NoName9 Well the computer player for this game is generally pretty stupid and usually makes a lousy teammate. That's why there are a bunch of really good Custom Ais for this game that are so much better (IS_Machine4.2). You can always order your allies to attack by typing 31 and pressing enter though. The computer player will almost always go after the "strongest" player on the other team, so if you're that player (congrats :D) then it's time for war haha.

@Ilumiknight I've checked out and installed the IS_Machine AI, and played the usual game. Everyone walled themselves in and built towers in a smart way, my Persian ally spammed elephants and gave hell to its neighbor, and my Mayan and Korean teammates went all the way across the map with onagers, rams, trebs, and special units to attack the Persian's neighbor. It was epic, a massacre.
Then I realized the new AI wasn't enabled. The vanilla AI must have gotten scared of being replaced it seems.

@afgwogsta Oh there's a long list of things so I'll just give you a brief list of some changes. There's a new bunch of campaigns, 5 new civilizations, a ton of new technologies, lots of balancing chances, many new units, smarter villager ai, smarter computer players, more maps, more scenario editor features, smarter onagers, new features (farms can now reseed themselves if you pay the wood early). :D It's definitely a great expansion that serves to make what was great even greater.

Harassing the other players villagers to keep them from gathering resources, right? What if they're the type of computer that mass-build castles? How would I deal with villagers that run back to the castle and decimate my harassing army?

god i cant beat the computer in a 1v1 on hard. if i focus on a defensive army, they jack the relics, if i go for the relics they rape my base. i can hold out for a long long time but the computer works me over!

alright so me and my friends still do LAN party's with aoe2.
i use farms for food and got alott of wood. those do well. and i build a couple castles.
at first i hunt alittle around the town center. i usally try to get double supply of gold and food main focus. adnvacne to castle age already having 2+ stables and go all out on knights attcak with those. should i mix some archer's and infantry in there?

@DoNaLcOsTeLlO Yes like I've said before Game Ranger is extremely picky with its connections so maybe its not the right program for you. Download Voobly instead (Ilumiknight referred you) and you should be able to play online just fine. :)

Is it possible to make like a step by step explanation video on how to start. i always struggle with the beginning. I have read a complete guide of it, but it would be very helpful to see it in a video. I can beat computer on hard. but thats when it's on 1v1v1. 1v1 = total fail. for some reason, i always struggle with the wood, mainly for buildings being so expensive (175 wood etc).

I can't really figure out how to get fast enough castle age, do you have any tips for me? Your tip about watchtowers is good, but I'm really struggling with even the moderate computer, which will completely steamroll me once it gets to castle and realizes that I'm still feudal. So, yeah, any help would be appreciated, even if it seems obvious.
