  • Dissapointed that he didn't touch on the Giant impact theory, but none the less very good so far :)

  • 6:13 was soooooooooooooooo freaking awesome

  • what if there's a universe where time doesn't exist??? damn! i don't wanna talk about it. ~X|

  • commercials...... oh why why!? :(

  • LOL at americano adverts :')

  • commercials ?????? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Commercials WIN

  • so what's with splice? hmm.. it's actually showing in any theatres here in the philippines

  • 1:00

Oh so the Ancient Egyptians where right all along. It is in fact the Sun that is the ultimate creator Praise Ra!!!!

    Only joking.

But is'nt annoying how all these theistic fuckwits litter this genuinely fascinating show. With their idiotic dogma.

  • When I saw the animation of our Sun forming and releasing the solar wind, I felt like I was looking at a father or mother of myself! I thought "I was born of that"

  • evolution of life wasn't described in any great detail at all, from microbial life all the up to complex life like us. Well it's a cosmology programme after all

  • splice was rated "R"? didnt knew that.

  • Love the advertisment.

  • Thiesm

Just Weirdos In Robes Making Shit Up

  • @bizarewigga very well put

  • ahhh adverts!

  • am i misunderstanding something? mr hawking sayes that pre big bang there could've been other universes. some like ours were lucky and produced life, some not so lucky. is this possible? earlier on in the program he also sayes that it wouldve been impossible to look outside of the universe pre big bang because space did not exist; nothing existed except this pure gas and energy. if nothing else could exist, there can only be one, as in one universe, our universe.

  • @trcyalex84

For our universe, yes, but you should look up the parallel universe theory. It postulates a near-infinite number of alternative universes in a giant void, never to know they existed, but there they are..

It's fascinating because in this theory, absolutely everything that can happen, does, even stuff that is not possible within the laws of our own universe.

  • @UnknownXV fascinating. no i have not heard of this..well only from science fiction stories. i dont understand how another universe can exist in a void? and it is a theory anyway. Is there any proof parellel univeres exist? hmmm, this is very interesting and has implications on the existence of an intelligent designer.

  • @trcyalex84

The "proof" is mathematical and from what I gather it's definitely only a theory, but as you said it's very intriguing. I think in the future, perhaps if we get lucky and survive for the next 100 years without destroying ourselves, that almost anything is possible.

I mean, consider this, we're only a hundred years into any real development of the human race (industrial revolution and the digital age) but, think of where we will be in a million years, or 10 million?

  • Dudes on both sides of the religion argument just listen to around 7:30. He says that perhaps a higher being is allowing nature to run in a certain way so that we and the universe can exist in a certain way. He also said that Science itself could be strengthening the higher being argument and basically implies that he is not discounting or discourage the God argument.

  • @hitmanmarco sorry typed too much. meant just discourages the God argument. He in no way discounts it but is showing multiple possibilities, theories and opinions.

  • "we are an accident" - thats what your mum said

  • this is one time im glad to see an ad, worst case scenario, i'm gona go look on the net and see if i find it

  • What's with the commercials? cut it out mr. @fabrix7777 ! Youtube can and does add the ads (pun?) to your videos all on its own. other then that, thank you for putting this up in HD! 0 dislikes :]

  • @lightbluegunshots Yeah i know i made a mistake but i don't have time to re upload, just skip it, it's only this part. sorry

  • I don't have words for this awesomeness

  • there were no accidents because there was no purpose. im an athiests and i think some of you here are as well? if we accept the scientific explanation, then nothing is an accident because nothing was suppose to happen. things just happened.

  • Gah! Commercials in a Youtube upload.......

    *shakes fist*

  • Its so easy, lets blame g-d for all this mess.... and all religious people will be happy, and maybe, just maybe, they will sh_t the f_ck _p....

  • Damn adverts and slow buffering

  • Your face is by an accident! Now that's funny! hahaha!!

  • So DNA is a complete accident?

  • @TheWolvie450 its all an "accident" friend

  • Comment removed

  • Respond to this video... This is a meaningless statement. DNA exists in virtue of the electromagnetic forces between its components.

  • Define Gravity.

  • @DLProductions1000 "Gravity" is a song by American singer-songwriter guitarist John Mayer

  • I find it amusing that the "ancient and elegant mechanism" he's describing here is by definition what classifies as a "search algorithm" in computer science. (Something similar to a 'Levin Search' to be specific)

    In short: A computer program.

I can only wonder such an ancient, elegant program could just pop out of nowhere, without a "programmer" behind it.

  • @voodooattack

Are you saying that's not possible?

  • @chambillgame A program is a logical unit, one that requires well-established concepts and prior innovation to exist, and in other words: Invention.

Do you think it's possible for an invention to exist on its own, and by itself?

  • @voodooattack

I think anything is possible. My question to you is this.

You think it's an invention? Or you know it's an invention?

  • @chambillgame I believe it is.

  • @voodooattack

    Interesting.

Do you think it's possible that this "thing," that you consider an invention, isn't an invention?

  • @chambillgame Let's see, if such complex and elegant mechanism wasn't an invention then what would it be? A self-assembled product of chance?

Considering that the purpose of said mechanism is to realise/test all possible probabilities (universes with different laws/constants to them), I strongly discredit any notion that such mechanism may also be the product of a probability.

  • @voodooattack

I concur that it being purely based on luck is improbable. However, I don't think this mechanism that you described, is either an invention or a product of chance. Human knowledge is relative and not absolute. What if a place where programs can be produced without a programmer exists? What if the concept of cause and effect doesn't apply there? How can we determine that such place doesn't exist? How can we determine that what seemingly a program is a program in actuality?

  • @chambillgame We could go as far as describing hypothetical places where programs can program themselves, or just acknowledge the (ever so small) possibility that there could be a programmer behind this; your (hopefully logical) choice.

You raise a valid point however, we can not determine such things on our own, not until we're able to physically step out of this reality and study things at a grander scale; and that would be the reason why I replied with "I believe", not "I know".

  • @voodooattack

Yes, that is precisely my point. Human logic is inferior to reality and relative in itself. Using logic, one is making an assumption based on what seems true, not what is true. Nothing can be proven, but rather, humans are persuaded into thinking that it's proven. Until absolute knowledge is attainable, I am certain of nothing. I know nothing.

You seem to understand much and I doubt anyone who uses logic can break you. It has been a pleasure. Have a good day, sir.

  • @chambillgame "Human logic is inferior to reality" . Theres a number of things wrong with that statement. Actually logic is continually tested against reality in science. therefore there is a progress in knowledge independent upon human intuition or opinion. Science is contingent on reality, human intuition is not. You are assuming there is an absolute knowledge without any way to test that assertion, therefore you will always be engaged in a futile execise in reverse engineering. Good day.

  • @voodooattack If the universe is an "invention" made by an inventor then you are just left witht the exact same problem. The inventor has "well-established concepts and prior innovation" So what invented that inventor? If we dont believe an "inventon" can exist by itself then that mean we have and endles cycle of invetors and invention!

  • Praise be to god.

  • Life began because god made it, maybe not 100% accruate the creation theory but near enough.

  • "How could such an astounding chain events which resulted in us be an accident? There is some higher autority at work setting the laws at nature so that we and the universe can exist"

This is the fact that atheists deny. God is out there. Some type of higher power. It cannot be denied anymore.

  • @ClythiaMystica Anything can be questioned. Perhaps there is a higher power, but saying there is does fuck all to explain the Universe and how it works. If we discover God through rational Science, then fair enough. No point running around praying to Gods untill we know if they exist at all, or indeed if believing in them helps us to understand reality in any way

  • @ClythiaMystica

I will offer this to you: Hundreds of years ago, flight would of seem impossible. Nowadays we can fly. Just because something has incredible odds, or would be thought of to being impossible; doesn't mean it can't occur.

Especially when you account for the BILLIONS of years in which all of these accidents occurred.

  • i though in an earlier part of this same program, he said that there was no space or outside universe before the big bang. HOW CAN THERE BE OTHER UNIVERSES THEN.

  • Comment removed

  • @camokid01 He says there was no space outside the big bang in the sense that the only space in our Universe at that time was the space inside the big bang. He didn't say there was no space in other Universes, because thier space is seperated from ours by dimensions of time and space. Therefore we wouldn't be able to see our big bang from them anyway.

  • The idea of a god isnt impossible, but religion is utter crap. A God that caused the big bang would have nothing to do with religion. Christians call atheists close minded whilst they are at church worshiping a religion that allows priests to molest little boys. It baffles me that people can devote theire whole lives to a religion. When you think about it theres been hundreds and thousands of religions since man has existed. Essentially its something humans created for our own use.

  • @MoNtYbOy101 you find me a pasage in the bible where it says it is alright to fuck a little boy up the arse. idiot.

  • @BritishPatriot3 Explain why the pope was caught protectiong chil molesters, explaing why so many kids are molested by catholic priests. Its disgusting.

  • @MoNtYbOy101 yea i know its disgusting, in my opion these people should be put to death. i am a catholic but doesnt mean i like the nazi pope and that. the church is corrupt in my opion. for example in the uk we are paying millions so the pope can come here a few days, which isnt really gonna achive anything. i would much rather give the money to charity. but it doesnt say anything in the bible about moselsting children does it? atheists do it aswell. did jesus ever molest children?

  • @BritishPatriot3 Fair point, just makes the religion as a whole look bad.

  • @MoNtYbOy101 yea i agree with you, but a asure that is only a very small majorty and it has nothing to do with the relgion just people who are sick in the head.

  • @BritishPatriot3 just makes you wonder why it occurs so much, seems to be a culture within the church.

  • @MoNtYbOy101 it's not culture, happens outside the church also. and i have never seen it happen in my parish nor surrounding parish's. you ocasionaly get a one of like in ireland.

  • @MoNtYbOy101 I'm not a christian. But religion and human are two separate things. You cant say christianity allows priests to molest little boys. No religion would allow something like that.

  • some people ask why this universe has everything just perfect to support life?we can't be so lucky.

but because of this luck our universe has creatures who can ask such questions.

after all it may be one of many universes.

  • Oi, whats up with ads?! I watch youtube to avoid those bloody things! :) Seriously though, thanks for the upload!

  • @SirHABIT click F5 button or refresh the page to stop ads

  • hey, just wanna say something to those who thinks this is the truth and to those who thinks God is the truth, you can never ever compare science and religion. they will forever contrast one another.

  • I love how most of you are bashing religion even though you are not willing to learn about religion or instantly dismiss any comments made about religion. In fact, I believe in everything that Hawking says EXCEPT when he says it is all luck. When he tries to dismiss the idea of God at the end, he fails miserably because he says other universes may not have been so lucky. That is precisely what makes God exist: the fact that our universe is created to a certain amount of perfection.

  • @vmcdude whatever, now fuck off and go pray to your sheep burning gods.

  • @vmcdude comments made without logic deserve dismissal without evidence. He says luck merely because the idea of a grand creator is a very ancient and baseless notion. The current Scientific model is of a Multiverse of infinite Universes. If an infinite number of Universes exist, then it's merely a matter of time until one comes around with the perfect conditions for life such as ours. If it didn't then we wouldn't be here to question it

  • @vmcdude

Stephen Hawking also supports the idea of Alien Life. So what's your point?

There is 100% other lifeforms out there, mathematical odds will prove it.

  • why the bloody advertisements are there in this video

  • Ever notice that everything was JUST right for life.

  • everybody here is complaining about other things instead of the video having commercials/ads!

  • Hey i really liked the music used in this series - especially the end-credits music. Can anyone please give me some link to where i can download the soundtrack to this series or at least listen to it ? thanks in advance...

  • The thing I loved the most about this episode was how Hawking first brought up the idea of there possibly being a grand designer / creator of everything (aka God) and then destroyed the idea...

  • bible people - STFU, we dont care, we dont want to care or know, and we dont give a crap about the nonsense you talk, Let us watch a video is peace, why dont you bugger off and watch some Jesus videos? WE DONT CARE, so stop preaching your fairly tales to us.

  • @Kozzy06 "a couple of molecules bumped together by accident"? Stephen Hawking said it himself: we know so much about the universe, but not how life was formed. Looks like "fairy tails" is all we got.

  • lol this series is about facts.

question for you bible bashers. for what reason did god create man ? is his ego just so big that he needs to create life to worship it ?

  • Question: For those of you who don't believe one word of this documentary is true....why are you here?

Another question for those of you who would rather be in church......Why aren't you?

  • @AjDeal825 There is no place for the bible in science. They don't work together, believe what you want to believe, you calling athiests close minded assholes is just as pathetic as calling christians retards for believing in a god. Grow up. Just respect eachother regardless of your personal beliefs.

  • @AjDeal825 Oh great, you've proven the existence of a God? Well then, that's big news! I'm sure we'll all be hearing it on the news soon.

    Idiot.

  • Search the series: The Secret Life of Chaos there is 6 chapters. Its also a excellent bbc documentary.

  • Wow... The Canadian Discovery channel looks so much better than this... But this is a great series!

  • Comment removed

  • God created the Universe and everything in it.

Man in his wisdom decided otherwise.

The Bible is only one view of God and as it was created by man its not perfect.

But a lot of whats in it (if you loosely translate it) is being proven correct by science.

Adam is a perfect example. The Bible says he was the first man. Science has discovered that all men and women if you go back far enough have the same male ancestor.

God is good but I'm not so sure about church.

  • bible is boring compared to this

  • commercials...noooooo!

  • lol @ 6:12, We all are an accident :P (reference to birth control) :D

  • HEy I have no idea about hte actualy physic involved here but I had an epiphany... the universe came from a HUGE collection of energy ..... from which came everything we know ....... Blackholes suck in matter .... is it plausible to say one could once accumulate so much matter convert it into energy to get a mass similar to that one which the big bang came from? Could a Blackhole Eventually Create everything again? Time Matter etc etc. Yet again I know not much about this do not ridicule me.

  • @ZachVMNTX1 I have seen many documentaries about this subject. A very interesting one is an interview of Hawking, when at the end he accepted the questions, a person from the audience asked him about this the "before the Big Bang" question, he said about this theory but he said also that we actually "don't know". All these are theories basically say that the 4 forces of nature gravity, electromagnetism, strong atom core force and weak atom core force were compacted in a singularity from where th

  • @hrbear The Universe came from......? all the same you think from what a small and insignificant part of the universe we are will we ever know and really should we be able to figure it out? I mean it seems like one of those you should have been there things lol

  • @ZachVMNTX1 Hmm...the ancient greek Hesiod in his book "Cosmogony" wrote about the beginning of everything "First of all, the Void (Chaos) came into being".

  • Bear Grylls? Haha, what a name.

  • @ticklemelia

how many bears could bear grylls grill, if bear grylls could grill bears? XD

  • five episodes later

i still hear these damn arguments

  • in the future.... all vieos will come with comercials. except they will anounce other internet videos and movies.

*ahem* Mr. Vader, if you would be so kind...

    Vader: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I apologize on behalf of all the Christians who were idiotic to bring religion into this. = =

I have no physical proof of the existence of God, but I have my faith. This is an awesome cosmology series, and it's really quite informative. If you idiots don't have the brains to watch the friggin' video before criticizing it, then you don't deserve to be a Christian, as you are judging, and trying to do harm onto others. Honestly, you make me a bit embarrassed.

  • @KageOfSand If only all Christians were like you.

  • ADS! I HATE ADS!

  • Lol commercials......

  • accidents do happen since given like billions of years, matter are prone to collide and cause something extraordinary.

  • wtf the first tv ad in this documentry? take it off! boo! social control! brain washing!

  • i think people on the comment board are both being stupid. science can live along side religion. religion gives guidance to how we should live. and it is just as reasonable to think that a higher force started this process. i think you all need to see the secons side of the coin

  • @No1SFCAndy NO, religion does'nt give us guidance to live atleast not good.

  • @patrickledford420 im not religous but i think it has most certainly giving some people guidance. it gives people somthing to believe in say a purpose

  • @No1SFCAndy just as reasonable? your kidding right thats why we want nothing to do with you people you cant even think for yourself.here's a good quote for you "in the land of the blind the one eyed is king".

  • @TheMaximusmacro yes i think it is just as reasonable. im not religious i believe in science like you but i can lift my head out of the gutter and open my eyes to other possobilities unlike you that suggests that because of this i cant think for myself are you being fucking serious? why the fuck cant i think for my self just because i think there could be a god. also your talking like you think your better than religious people "nothing to do with you people". so shut the fuck up use your head!

  • @No1SFCAndy yes where fucking better then you any idiot believing in a bronze age book to guide him in his live is a fucking idiot.i dont care if it offends you or whatever.

  • @TheMaximusmacro once again you are showing your stupidity as i said in my last comment that i am not religious i believe in this but acknowlege other peoples believes and dont ridicule them for it. somthing it seems your are uncapable of.

  • @No1SFCAndy you said in previous comment its just as reasonable to think a "higher force" started the process.if you think that your an idiot.and i can ridicule you asmuch as i want get over it.

  • @TheMaximusmacro i would love to make a comeback but i simply cant because your english makes no sense, please get your mum to check your work then repost it, thanks.

  • When commentator (presume that was Hawkins) start talking about that great designer and to much coincidence i just pick up the phone from some monkeys who just finish to write the copy of Shakespeare. If some people catch Adams joke they i suppose know what i mean. By the way why usa have so short commercial brakes? In europe they are twice long but of course less cheesy for our sake ; )

  • @VooDooMadMan most of the commercials were cut out. These days some television broadcasts have commercial breaks up to five minutes long. ;)

  • I dont understand, he originally stated that before the big bang there was only 1 thing, the universe super condensed and there was no outside of it yet here he says that there were many other universes? if there were other universes and they did not work then they would be frozen, like he stated what happens when there is an equal amount of anti matter and matter and not the slight imbalance in the primordial gas.

  • Why's there a commercial in here?

  • Lol commercial.

  • XD American adverts look so cheesy.

  • @nashertheatheist i was thinking the exact same thing

  • so if you could have a nebula with different stuff in it then , if life arised in that nebula, it would have a completely different completion like creatures made of other unknown elements i guess that proves that anything is possible in the universe and the cosmos

  • There is true complexity to this, but not beyond us. Humans really need a new perceptive, change.

  • Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. (1Cor.1:20,21)

  • Why Why Why you people talk about the fuc--ng bible, please, this is a very serious cosmology series, we dont give a fuck what ever you believe, here we talk and study real facts, please, comments are welcome but this is science if you wanna talk about fiction go back to your church .

  • @casasbojorges we talk about bible bcos cosmology is prooving our bible to be true

  • Sorry i have no freaking idea what are you talking about? i prefer to be quiet.......

  • @casasbojorges u'll come know what i'm talking about

  • @casasbojorges i agree with you, minus the f-bombs

  • @casasbojorges Sorry to much fear i feel when dudes compare the Laws of Nature Physics with Religion Laws, i feel sorry for them, and for me when i wrote the fucking f-words, anything else i keep my point of view...

  • @casasbojorges YES!

  • @casasbojorges Don't get angry. Seems that religion is a social necessity. If "God" did not exist how one could say "God bless America" he should say "Hydrogen bless America". Or Obama to say "blah blah blah so help me God" he should say "blah blah blah so help me black hole". Or when a person needs help he should say "Oh my electron help me" instead of "Oh my God help me". I mean, see the thing from it's formal side man ;-)

  • @hrbear Are you saying that the existence of a God is proven by the fact people talk about it? It seems like that's what you're saying, and that's pretty damn ridiculous.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @casasbojorges Well put.

  • Humans are made up of Spirit, Soul and Body. If you really noticed in your life many things wud have happened extraordinarily which by normal means would have been impossible. Eg: a dream of a future event, or an information from a far off place. You can't substitute anything for spirituality. The Truth is out there...

  • Please see youtube "Dr. Gerald Schroeder Genesis The Big Bang Therory" you'll know how amazing God revealed his creation to us people, sadly we fail to understand how God is communicating to us.

    ****************************

MUST SEE "Dr. Gerald Schroeder Genesis The Big Bang Therory"

  • Stephen Hawkings said there are a lot of doubts about evolution theory.. So they make up other stories, i mean theories. But Bible has been an excellent source of information regarding everything. Bible was written by many different ppl living in different parts in different centeruries but all wrote the same thing. They never knew each other or met nor have they read other's writings.

  • @rockofhoreb The bible is not an a good source for everything. Maybe for proper human nature but not what you would call everything... And dyou have a source from where he said he doubted evolution theory? How could you possibly doubt a theory where you have more evidence supporting it than not supporting it?

  • @rockofhoreb It really isn't "the most authentic book ever." It goes just as far as man. The bible uses the notion of miracles to explain a lot. Also your witty remark about calling scientific theories as "stories" was just childish and idiotic if you honestly believe that the bible itself is not riddled with stories.

  • @wordey123 Stephen Hawking says "elementary particles in sea collided together for long time and suddenly a perfect match to develop an organism occurred. However this theory is not very realistic". So he says "probably all life came from some other planet by asteroids carrying the dna...". "What really happened we don't know"

  • @rockofhoreb

yes, that is exactly what he says, and those are the most likely situations, although we aren't completely sure those are the explanations that make the most sense.

  • Im a Christian and I believe in evolution. Thumbs up if your the same!

  • @masterchiefkl **you're**

Evolution contradicts Christianity. So does the big bang theory.

    _

Your religion claims that an intelligent being created the Universe as well as the Earth and mankind. Your holy book, the bible, the only "proof" or "evidence" that your religion has to offer of its validity, claims that women were created when your god pulled a rib out of a man.

    _

Are you sure that you are a Christian that believes in evolution? Maybe you're not as Christian as you think you are?

  • @FatoDrunkoAndoStupid Yup im still a Christian. Do I take every word from the Bible as a it is as a base fact, no. Do I believe Jesus son of god died for my sins, yes. Do i believe that women were created from a mans rib no, do i believe humanity was created from Adam and eve no. I do believe however that God IS out there and he created the big bang that started off this perfect evolution in which we could be created.

  • Comment removed

  • @masterchiefkl Cherry pick the bible all you like, it's only slightly less ridiculous. Further, the process that created us all, evolution, is far from "perfect." Its pretty in-efficient and downright cruel. How some people reconcile evolution with an all knowing/powerful/good god is baffling, and the reasons given are usually pretty pathetic.

  • @FatoDrunkoAndoStupid There are a lot of Christians who do not believe the word of the Bible line by line but rather as a map to philosophies to live by as well as a general idea that something greater than we can imagine is helping us along the way. Us Christians just happen to believe that awesome being can to guide us in Jesus, understood our woes and forgave us. Christianity as the world see's it as a group of people blindly following a crazy loon leader has been dead since Protestants.

  • @masterchiefkl Religion is still fiction, whatever form.

  • @masterchiefkl Jesus was a prick. What kind of idiot beleives he's the son of god!? I'm glad he got put to the cross. What a weirdo!

  • I love the British pronunciation of evolution as "evil-lution.

  • Uggh! you let a couple of commercials slip through - you must have been taking a dump or something.

  • For sake of simplicity, this documentary left out that the birth of our star was from a nebula and that a planetary nebula seeded our system with the heavy elements. We were formed from the coalescence of hydrogen gas and the addition of material from a supernova.

Unless the mass of a star is huge, a secondary star system can't be formed from its death and the resulting planetary nebula.

  • tivo fail. :)

  • I wish you people could just watch something without preaching...

  • @3eau2aniel Me, being a Christian, even get tired of it.

  • this first episode is absolutely incredible... anyone who does not watch and realise this is denying their own existence in this immense place we call the universe
