As far as having issues when getting on a plane I don't anticipate any. You see, if I don't go the flight won't go. LOL
I'm going to order this baby early next year, right now my wallet is empty after all the Christmas gift spending. I'm really super new to guitar playing, hope I'm not being crazy for trying a brand new hobby in my 40s. :-)
Great playing sir, hope you're safe over there or better yet safe @ home by now.
Would you recommend this guitar to a guitar rookie? I need one that's small enough to travel with as I travel for a living but also one that's fairly "easy" to learn on. Is this a Steinberger Synapse Custom?
@UTube4Junky Thank you for the kind comments. I'm happy to say I came back from Afghanistan in July safe and sound. I would definitely recommend this guitar to a rookie who travels a lot. I've never had any issues taking it on any airline. The guitar has a great smooth feel and really solid neck meaning it will not bow due to climate changes and extreme travel. This one is an SS-2F if i remember correctly. No transtrem or weired capos on this one. Cheers!
Always loved Steinbergers. Is the back of that guitar woodgrain, or is it painted? Can't find any where I live,so if i order one i'd like to know that beforehand.Thanks.Nice playing.Much respect for anyone in the forces.Stay safe.
Could you tell me the difference between the Synapse SS-2F and the SS-2F Custom Trans Amber ?? I think i will defiantly buy one of either but i dont really know the difference between the two apart from the difference in price so any information will help :)
@87sherwood hey how did the single ended strings work out compared to the double ended ones? did you have to change all the strings at once, or is it possible to change one string at a time?
@MyLifeChanger You can change one string at a time. I only use single ball strings and they hold up great nd last WAY longer than the crappy D'addario double ball. I use Ernie ball on all my axes.
I'm thinking in buying one of those, but I'll take my time as they are a bit expensive. Some time ago I though they were quite weird, but now I think they are just perfect for traveling :D
@Belios Mine is overseas right now. Try bringing a Flying V or Explorer in a barrack box. I think you'll be happy with the guitar. The Zero fret is kind of soft though. I might put a stainless fret on there when I get back. That beoing said I am playing it 2-3 hours a day
@Macsk8ing Its too bad your so closed minded. I'm in the military and I can actually fit this guitar in my barracks box. I'm deploying for 8 months in Afghanistan soon and it will save my sanity over there. Have you ever tried carrying a Dean ML aboard an airplane? No one is forcing you to buy one or watch my video.
I was wondering if you could post some songs that demonstrate more metal crunch and various distortions and more techniques used to see how it handles them? It sounds good based on what I hear in your video, but I was wondering how warm it can get with crunch because the demos they do make it sound very tinny, cold, and one dimensional I think. Thanks.
hey man i just saw something and it made me think of you also since you and i will have very similer guitars...I saw this thing on YT of this debate going on to add 18 volts to EMG 81-85's as appoised to the standard 9volt...I heard a big differnce and they say its a mod you can have done depending if you can mamange another battery (which in a steinberger i high doubt there is room for that..what do you think?
im getting a steinberger synapse transscale that is red in color and has a piezo bridge pick up...im a bass player and i even own the synapse 5 string...im 37 and when i was a kid in the 80s i fell in love with steinbergers....its a shame to me people dismiss them on thier looks which is ironically a strong point...they are much easier to take care of than other guitars and more stable themselves. i wish they offerd a trem model on this line, i love them.
If they offered a trem model I would have got it in a heartbeat. This guitar sounds huge and feels pretty good too. Its strange standing with it at first because I'm used to V's and ML's. This guitar travels with me everywhere.
@87sherwood If I remember correctly I think I read that the gain stays active or something to that effect, so like long sustained notes like you're playing here fit the way it was designed, but if you try other things with distortion it won't sound as good. I can't remember what the criticism was exactly but I was thinking maybe if you did a more aggressive+/or faster song that doesn't rely on sustained long notes, but crunch, fast arpeggios+other things it would demonstrate more wat it can do?
beautiful ! i own a steingerber G3t an cant get the thing set up right at all.. (im new to it lol) wanted to get a new washburn idol with the buzz feiten but then i'm reading its a gimmic then i saw this one now i can't decide lol. how do you practice if you don't mind me asking. I cant come up with a formula that helps me improve very much and i've been at this too long to still suck at it :)
They are both very different guitars. I use mine for its portability as I fly often. In a band situation it performs flawlessly and never goes out of tune on me. Its the most durable guitar you can buy in my opinion. My next guitar will likely be a Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus. Buy the one that speaks to you the most.
Hey Dominick I'll get something posted for you this week. I'll do a review and tone test showing different styles for you. I'll crunch it up a bit. ;)
Nice job man. I've been wanting a Transcale myself for a while now, a black one. How do you like it so far? Is there a chance you can play some songs with heavy crunch and or show a video experimenting with different types of crunch that dont sound as raw and dry but more dynamic and wet sounding, I guess how it expresses sound with chorus and such?
Oh yeah I love all those bands. I play a lot of Maiden. I like the blues too. I prefer the Strat for SRV but the Synapse would be pretty sweet for Satch or Vai tones. The pickups are a little hot for SRV but dialing back the volume on the guitar works for me. I like playing Pride and Joy, Wicker man, 2 minutes to midnight, can I play with madness and number of the beast are tunes that are always on my warm up list.
As you know, I don't play at all and just learning now. However, looking at easy you make it look, how would it be to play say some SRV or Joe Satriani on this guitar? When you get home next time I think you'd like some of the bands I watched back in the day play live; SRV, Johnny Winter, BB King, Buddy Guy, Maiden, |Sabbath, etc. Keep safe in the military!
Yeah I guess Steve did used to play those parts. I've been playing for 15 years now. The beauty about this song as its as hard as you want it to be. I taught it to my friend in all open chords. In the band I play all the rhythm parts because I have to sing it too. Playing the main riffs is pretty simple but it'll take some practice. it is strange no seeing a headstock on the guitar. Its great playability make me forgot about it though. Catch ya later.
Very cool indeed. I Youtube'd this guitar when your father told me about it and you're right, there wasn't much on here. How long have you been playing for? Im on lesson 4 and nowhere near your level. LOL So, how is it to play at frist? Must be strange without a head?
I'm glad to hear you made it home safe!

@SourceofmetallicA When its the only guitar that fits in my barrack box and on airplanes its worth it. It plays everybit as good as any other guitar.
