  • excellent video! taught me a lot about tomato sauce! big thanks that was amazing!

  • w0w thats very goooood ure helping people thats nice...^^

  • @SterlingBorden Hi, just found your comment, not sure why it was marked as spam. Anyway, you can use things like parmesan or romano cheese or perhaps add more spicy ingredients red and green peppers, onions, or even hot pepper to give more taste. Salt is not necessary to preserve it. It just helps bring out the tomatoey taste. I use very little myself in cooking compared to what's in jarred sauces and other homemade sauces I've tasted. I would rather add a little parm cheese to my own plate.

  • Why add white sugar to a healthy food?? She ruined it. I used the carrots, and just a pinch of cinnamon, and it was the best sauce! I I often add grated zuchinni & grated carrots to my sauce because no-one notices, and it just adds extra nutrition, especially for a vegetarian diet. I do not add the cheese, as I freeze this in zip-lock baggies.

  • Excellent video!

  • GREAT video! Thank you so much - easy to follow & concise.

  • Hi, thanks so much for your terrific feedback! I'm so glad you liked my video.

  • Thanks, you did a great job...I have Italian inlaws and they insist thet when you crush your tomatos with your own hands that is what gives it the best flavor....you

  • do we add parsely at all?? if so how much? fresh or dried?

  • Hi, I usually don't with this kind of a tomato sauce, but if you are making a garden vegetable sauce by adding fresh red peppers, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc. then you can add some parsley. I would recommend about 2-3 tablespoons, but you can add more if you love the taste.

  • Thank you for explaining everything step by step.Very helpful!

  • WOW!!!! Great recipe-I have never made my own sauce and I did a lot of you tube searching for help on how to do it-your video was awesome and so easy :) thank you. AND I love adding the red wine, I would have never thought to do that. Well I no longer have to wonder what to do with all these tomatoes my garden has blessed me with. You explained everything beautifully, no guessing-I subscribed and will watch all your videos. THANKS AGAIN!!!!

  • Hi, thanks so much for sharing your terrific feedback! I'm so glad you found my video helpful. Don't forget to freeze some or can some for later :o)

  • I really like that backsplash over your stove. Very nice. :) The tomato sauce recipe looks delicious and I will be making mine from now on. So much healthier. Can you add corn starch to thicken the sauce? For those of us on a low sodium diet?

  • Hi, I usually like to add tomato paste to thicken more. Thanks for complimenting my backsplash. I actually designed it myself :o)

  • I wanted to ask you, why do you take off the foamthat form on top of the sauce???.... Thank You!

  • Hi, you don't have to, I was just taught to do that.

We sell them in Denmark. and we sell alot of them! its expensive here tho. 250 gram is about 5 buks. :( but they smell amazing and taste amazing. I make tomatoe salads at least 2-3 times of a week with all fresh herbs. I hope its not too unhealthy??

  • Hi, tomato salads are wonderful for you; loaded with Vitamin C. You will get more lycopene from cooking the tomatoes, but have your salads too!

  • Thanks so much for your kind words; it really means a lot :o)

  • Been making my sauce the same way for years, ours are VERY similar, GREAT video. I have 2 secret ingredients that i would like to share with you that i learned from a sicilian woman. Add two tablespoons of bacon grease and at the end of the sauce add a third stick of butter to it. This gives the sauce a beautiful GLAZE.

  • :) great vid i have been looking for a good tomato sause to make at home and i know i just found it thank you.

  • Hi, thanks so much for your terrific feedback! I really appreciate it :o)

  • why remove foam from top of sauce?

  • Hi, this is considered important if you can your sauce to store it for any length of time. Foam contains a lot of air. In canning, the jars are not filled to the top of the jar. This gap between the lid and the food is called head space and it gives the canned food room to breathe. Foam increases this space as it is said can shorten the life of your canned food. Great question!

  • I tried making sauce before watching this video and it came out gross because I didn't know to peel the skin. Thank you for the great tips.

  • Thanks for the great feedback! I'm so glad my video helped you :o)

  • WOW! I love your video! Very instructional! I've been wanting to learn how to make sauce from fresh tomatoes for the longest, and watching your video is by far the best in showing steps. I've seen a few that have the tomato strainer thing and I don't have one, but how you did yours with the strainer alone was great! Again, I cannot wait to try your recipe! Thank you for posting this! BTW - what kind of CA Merlot is the one you used? (I live in CA) :)

  • Hi, thanks so much for your terrific feedback! I'm so glad my video helped you. Please stop back and let me know how your sauce came out :o)

I usually use whatever wine we currently have open that we were drinking. I believe in this video I was using Castle Rock. My favorite is Robert Mondavi merlot.

  • You're a great cook and good instructor!

  • I am a Single 53-year-old male, and I wanted to learn how to make tomato sauce, because there seems to be too much junk in the can products. Your video was very helpful, so thank you.

  • You're very welcome! I'm so glad it helped. Thanks for the great feedback.

  • I made this and it was delicious. The only thing I didn't add was the red wine. I don't know how to choose wine. What is a good one for me to use? Also, I had trouble achieving a creamy sauce. I love having tomato and garlic chunks, but it was ALL chunky. How can I get a creamier base? Did I do something wrong?

  • Hi, no you didn't do anything wrong, you simply have to strain your sauce to remove all the tomato chunks. You can buy a tomato strainer. It's like a churn that squashes down all the tomato chunks and only the sauce remains in your bowl, then you continue cooking. You can thicken it by adding tomato paste and simmering the water content out. I'm so glad your sauce can out yummy :o) I usually buy California Merlot wines. They are my favorite to drink and use as well in sauce.

  • Take one or two of the empty jars that the store sauces come in (Prego, Classico, etc) and ladle in the sauce you made while it's still hot then screw the metal lid on and let it sit on the counter, it will seal as it contracts. You can actually hear it pop after about 10 - 15 min. Will taste as good as the day you made it whether it's a weak or a month later and you don't even have to refrigerate it. Just remember to run the jar under hot water first to prevent cracking. Give it a try.

  • Hi, wow, thanks for the tip. I didn't think you could do that with store bought jars. I was taught you had to use canning jars that you boiled and sealed with special two-part lids. I just freeze mine because I have an extra deep freezer, but your way is very easy. Did they boil the jars and lids first to disinfect them?

  • I know the 2 lid ones you're referring to and they are what my grandfather uses but you also have to buy a special piece that screws them on tight. Boiling is of course a good thing but even then the lids will eventually start to rust so keep an eye out for that and trash them the minute you see any discoloration.

  • Thank you, I will.

  • After having lived in Italy for 4 years with my Italian grandparents I have to say you're the closest to the way they showed me how to make tomato sauce (aside from the can you added) and I noticed that you made a lot which is the only way to go so I wanted to let you in on a little trick on how to store left over sauce without it going sour on you. Even after a day you can tell it's not as good as the day you made it and this is due to oxidation.

  • Hi,Thans for the video i made my own today from another site but there are certain things i will add to my sauce as it was only a basic tutorial.I try not to use salt in my cooking but use Maggi Cubes and they do a great job!

  • Hi, thanks so much for sharing your tip!

  • Tnx for this recipe! :) btw, u said u should have dishes with tomato sauce for at least twice a week, does ketchup count? I already got ur tshirt, i love it! Tnx for the videos! Keep them coming! :)

  • Gracias!!

  • De nada!

  • Ive Always Thought The Foam To Be The Badness rising To The Top..It Sure Looks Like Cooking Is A Labour Of Love For you..The video Is Very Good And easy To Follow..

  • I do love cooking! I also love feeding people when they come to my home :o)

  • i'm coming over!

  • Curious how you store soo much tomato sauce????

  • Hi, I usually freeze my excess sauce. I prefer it to canning; it's just easier for me because I have three freezers.

  • I just realized what you were asking. Sorry. I store my sauce in plastic containers that I save from foods that I purchase in them like yogurt containers and chinese soup containers, or the very large ricotta containers.

  • We use tomatoe paste. Do you have a favourite brand? Also, what is the purpose of removing the foam? My family does not bother removing the foam. Why do you? And what do you do with the foam once you remove it? Throw it away? What kind of flavour does cheese give it? We never use any cheese in our recipes.

  • Hi, I really don't have a favorite brand of tomato paste. I probably use Contadina most often. I don't know why the foam is removed, I was taught to do it that way years ago by my mom and most recipes I've ever read had called for skimming it off. I do know that some recipes, do say you can stir it back into the sauce and it will eventually dissolve. I use Parmesan and Romano cheese. Next time you have tomato sauce on your pasta, sprinkle a little of either one on to taste it. It's yummy!

  • :) I love to use tomatoe sauce in rice, other pastas, bananas, plantains, meats and eggs!

  • Hi, I totally agree and I add all of those things to tomato sauce to for different dishes, except the bananas and plaintains. I have never had bananas with tomato sauce. I would love to hear more about that.

  • Well my family cooks rice and we eat it with the tomatoe sauce/stew. And for a bit of a sweet flavour, you can cut up some bananas and put it on the side. I love the taste, but I don't think western cultures have a taste like that so it may be interesting for you.

Friend plantain with the tomatoe sauce tastes delicious if you make your tomatoe sauce a bit spicy or zesty! If you like the taste of plantain you will love fried plantain and the sauce.

  • Thanks so much for sharing. The spicy sauce with the fried plantain sounds really good.

  • Thank you for your videos, you really encourage me to try new things. I can't wait to try making this!

  • Hi, that is so great to hear! That is exactly what I'm trying to do; encourage people to make things fresh and healthy for themselves so they have a better diet. I just want to remind them how nice these homemade foods can be and so worth the effort. It is so therapeutic for me to cook. I really appreciate your terrific feedback :o)

  • Thanks for teaching us how to make tomato sauce.

  • Thank you, your video's are great, I learn much of them.

  • I am so happy to hear that. Thank you!

  • Thanks for the video I've been wondering how to make one, I'm going to give it a try!

  • Terrific! Let me know how it comes out :o)
