They can be called on in the event of massive riots, natural disasters, or other similar situations in which the city police or sherrif's office is unable to handle things. It's part of why they exist.

Posse comitatus applies to regular Army not National Guard, National Guards main purpose is for domestic affairs.

Actually the National Guard is exempt from Posse Comitatus which is for active, federal military. Because they report to the Governor of a state they can be used to police.

Posse Comitatus is not applicable here, because the National Guard in this instance was summoned by the governor of that particular state to work with the local police department. The only instance it would be applicable is if the National Guard troops were FEDERALIZED, meaning the President had activated them into service. Other than that one instance, this was perfectly legal.

Personally, I don't think the US Army or Marine Corps or Air Force is the enemy... they're not going to come in during some huge emergency or something, knowing their families are at risk, shooting and killing American citizens. Especially the types who do the shooting - those guys are Patriots, too. For no other reason would they return to war if they didn't believe they were doing what was best for our country. I was in Iraq ofr a bit and in the army and i chose to leave . This is very typical of soldiers who dont know how to think for themselves. They are just doing what they are told and dont think about wat they are doing. It is very wrong. I say we look to the Militia fr our needs whether thta is defense or a place to go for safety not some militay dog. In any case, he should have said that if he were given an unconstitutional order, then it would be his duty to disobey such order, as it would be an unlawful order. He seemed somewhat ignorant, but to be fair, he likely didn't want to make political statements on camera while in uniform. Also, these guys seem a lot less high-strung than typical cops.
