  • That woman in the background needs to shut her mouth and let the firefighters work.

  • Anyone who goes anywhere near this sort of thing has massive cajones!

  • it looks to me like he is just watering the flowers around the house.

  • Part 2 :

In the Moment where oxygen is there the Gases combusting and there even the Firefigthers protection Gear don´t Help very much..The Heat is so exrem high that all in the Way get ignited.Typical is,that the Fire in the Room after the combustion get blown out.(Like to see here in the video at 1:46 min.).The left side is still burning after the Falshover and the right room where the last Window is is a short Flame visible.

This is the difference between a Flashover and a Backdraft.

  • Backdraft:

A Backdraft is much more Powerfull than a Flashover. There is a Room with much Heat ,but no open Flames mostly even some smoldering and very low Oxygen but burnable Stuff..

So it like in the Movie "Backdraft" that the Fire can burn because low Oxygen, but the Heat let Gas exhausing from all inside the Room.when you are at the door and somke come und go from under the Door NEVER open it or you get GRILLED....

The Heat only waiting for somebody the bring Oxygen.

    Continue in Part 2

  • To Explane the difference between Flashover and Backdraft: :

Flashover All Stuff in a Room get Heated up so it vapour gas. This Gases are very hot and can burn. When there is enough Heat the Gas ingnite Good Example is the Video om YT where a x-mas Tree burns in a Room.Near the End all in the Room Ignite even away from the Flames. There Is Qxygen,Heat ,a open Flame, and Burnable Stuff.

  • Look at 1:40 min. First is there a Flashover..just after the Glass broke. But then some seconds later you can clearly heear the "Pfffft" like air is sucked in.Then you see at the last Window shortly falmes that after the Pfft dissapear. That was a small Backdraft. The Air sucking Sound just before it happens come from much Heat but very low Oxygen. Not much happens until Qxygen is avivable. Then the overheated room get ingulfed in Falmes in miliseconds.A Deathly Trap for very Firefighter.

  • not dissing or nothing...and im not a firefighter, But, wouldn't it have been more efficient if he was on the left side of the screen shooting back into the house?

  • to

  • @guitpla304 This actually makes the fire progress in to the house.

  • @guitpla304 no because the left side of the building was a lost cause and the air that the water pushes into the fire can actually push the fire through the building and cause more damage that way so where he was he could enter the building and push it back to where the car port area was

  • I respect everyones'' job at this scene and I am not a firefighter, but with the firefighting foam I sell, I could put this fire out with one handline and me operating it. I am neither a troll or hater, but the new foam technology out there makes this scene one of the past. If you care to know more about it, then I look forward to your reply. Be well.

  • Heroes. That is all I can say.

  • To the folks who put down the firefighters....I sure as blazes don't see YOU there doing anything. You have diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain. Unless you can do better, keep your yap shut...better yet....go out with the firemen and show them how it's done. It's doubtful you could save the lot.

  • Upon arriving on scene I would have started by...

    1) Ordered my guys to tag the nearest hydrant and do a drive way lay up to the front of the garage, while they did that I would be doing my 360. (Street side would be my alpha side.)

    2) Once water was being pumped to the engine i'd keep the deck gun (or monitor) on the truck and have it start defensive ops, while I or the other firefighter set up positive ventilation.

Hopefully by then I would have turned over command to a Captain.

  • @JamesHusky21 Scottish Fire Fighter here.... We have started using PPV in the last few years but only after the fire is out (basically just to clear smoke and let people back in the building).

Have you ever had any moments where someone has used it at the wrong time and made the fire worse.

I understand the benefits when used correctly, just seems a bit risky if you don't know the full layout of a building. I'm sure it must be fine if it is standard practise with you guys.

  • @dball111 The only case where we wouldn't use PPV is if backdraft conditions were present or if the fire was self ventilating, i'm sure there are cases where PPV intensified a fire and caused a bit more damage but for the most part it doesn't to a large degree.

Really all your doing is just pressurizing the house with the intent for that oxygen to leave through a door or window on the opposite side of the building of that which the PPV fan is placed, not shooting air into the seat of the fire.

  • @JamesHusky21 I understand the principals of PPV. I suppose what I'm asking is if PPV ever used with Fire Fighters still in the building or is it strictly when it is known that there is nobody in the risk area?

Obviously property damage isn't too much of a burden to bear, but if you got it wrong and it worsened the conditions for those inside I'd imagine I would feel pretty bad about that.

  • 4:41 asshole u getin me wet 4:44 motherfucker STOP hosin me down bitch

  • horrible play on this fire...id be embarassed to call myself a fireman if i did a job like that...

  • screw all the negative comments. good job and good video!

  • @MrJackers95 Limited hydrants and low water pressure.

  • Hey Monday morning quaterbacks (critics). What are thier SOP's. Maybe they have to catch a hydrant before making an interior attack (defensive), maybe the ladder has to have it's own water supply before setting up (drove past to find a hydrant), maybe they are a VOLUNTEER dept. GOD BLESS'EM if they are, because I would not do this sh$* for free.

  • @lovecantkeepquiet Seriously? Religious garbage on a video about firefighting? Get a life...or medication.

  • While I agree that some things could of been done differently everyone needs to just sit down and watch the video. You don't know what the full situation was, you don't know how many personnel were on scene, you don't know their capabilities, nor do you know their orders from their officers. All you know is what you see in the video. And everyone who criticizes this department based on this video needs to realize that they have no clue what the hell was actually going on at this fire scene.

  • wow these guys fishing they are so slow wth man water now now

  • they should of cut a few holes in the roof, then that would of given it better ventilation and would of reduced the risk of a flashover

  • WTF??? WHAT THE FK KINDA SH*T SHOW WAS THIS???

    U GOTTA BE KIDDING ME...

THIS CAN BE A COMMERCIAL ON ALL THE THINGS NOT TO DO IN FIREFIGHTING!!!!!! U FOOLS NEED TO GO BACK TO THE ACADEMY AND RE-TRAIN !!!!!!

  • LOL, LOL, I think a TONKA fire crew would do a better job of putting out a small house fire, Somebody tell these guys a forward approach to the fire and open up the nozzle to douse the immed flames, Basic firefighting !)!, LOL

  • @mannofhonor hey guess what.. once the house gets to a burning point to where it cant be recovered all they can do is just put water in it!!! have a lil more respect!!!!!

  • i am proud to be in the local volunteer fire brigade !

  • this video gets funnier every time i watch it...

  • 1:40 thought the house was done

  • Really sad fire fighting if you ask me.

  • Wow...foam for a house fire. I've never seen that before. Not a bad idea, but it takes time to set up. in this case, the house was well-involved on arrival and probably should've been knocked down with water first. I'm not sure what kind of town this is, but if you have an outside water source, a tower ladder stream isn't a bad idea either. Also not sure why the ladder drove past the house. Usually the front of the house is reserved for the truck company. Good effort overall, though.

  • @pfc884 No dude, you gave yourself a bad name all by yourself. First off learn how to spell and second off, running around the internet talking shot about other departments is not professional and can actually get you kicked off your department. I have seen it happen. Use spell check when trying to insult people, makes you look somewhat intelligent.

  • @wowHandOfFaith Where we come from we call you a motor mouth that doesn't know what he is talking about. You can ask anyone out here, especially the police if I am starting fires. And I stick up for the facts. You people wants to run your mouths about a 5-10 minute video when an incident takes up to 2 -3 hour. Unless you were there to see what was going on you should have a little self control and shut the hell up

  • @mabas21 I can't believe you think he's starting the fires, and that you say that they don't know what there doing. Have I heard you wrong? or are you just a idiot

  • @mabas21 I don't think he has a department, besides the idoit department.

  • @pfc884 i understand where your coming from but clearly this is a northern town and he didnt do what he was supposed to that house could have been saved along time ago if he would have contained the fire that was in the garage

  • @pfc884 Ok for one thing this house is gone so there is no need to waste your water protect exposers and go into a defensive fire attack. Forget the house its very simple and ignorant people and people who cant spell give firefighters a bad name.Where ever your a firefighter at your department need o teach professionalism. The bad thing is im a junior firefighter and seem to know more than you how do you feel ?

  • @pfc884 You are what happens when cousins marry. How are things at Kmart?

  • ok the doosh bag on the monitor singel handedly burnt the house down what an ass and by the way yall dumb asses do know the garuge is on fire also shity firefighter like yall give us good ones bad names and can the dumb ass with the hand line keep water flowing and put it on some fire

  • ok the doosh bag on the monitor singel handedly burnt the house down what an ass and by the way yall dumb asses do know the garuge is on fire also shity firefighter like yall give us good ones bad names

  • ok the doosh bag on the monitor singel handedly burnt the house down what an ass

  • we had this problem with our monitor it doesn't go down any lower then that thought they should of caught it and backed down on the pressure

  • yup i`d say that house is gone......wasn`t that big when the video started, mostly the garage, and ya the hose blowing over to the Neighbors?.....WTF

  • Flashover?? I think you will find a flashover occurs directly before a fully developed fire,,,,,,,,,I think it's safe to say its full developed. :-)) Not only that, why have the monitor at that pressure? They will be knocking glowing embers into next doors garden. Cone it down for fucks sake.

  • This is what happens when you break up with a girl...

  • I don't claim to be the best at anything, however I can tell when the Monitor isn't doing any good at all, oh yea it looks like it is pumping close to 1,000 gpm, BUT I don't care how fast you can pump the water it you don't put it on the fire IT DOES YOU NO GOOD, the monitor is shooting way over the top of the house on to the neighbors house. and not once did I see any one aproch the garage with a hand line. and what is with all the foam?? I don't believe this is a petroleum based fire.

  • Is it possible that you can send me this video so that I may use a short clip of it for an independant release music video. I'm not rich so unless it makes money the only thing I can give you is an honerable mention for it. alchemyinmusic33@yahoo.com a response would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

  • everyone was saved. In my book, that is a good attack

  • Sometimes, it seems like you can tell what chapter of the essentials book the rookies are on just by the comments they make. "Oh no...should have used foam"...."that's stupid! They shoulda ventilated it" " No.. a smooth bore would have knocked it out"

  • y didnt they just go in thru the front and hit it with an 1 3/4. that would hav nocked the fire down quick. o and the blitz gun with a fog nozzle is dumb. only handlines should hav fog nozzzles. master streams u want the most water which is a smooth bore.

  • I can't believe that no one thought to move the monitor. It was shooting way over the fire and having no effect for a long time

  • That first line should have been pulled around to more directly hit the garage. If all that heat had been taken out more quickly I doubt there would have been enough to flash.

  • it would make it easy if you used a Mercury monitor

  • Comment removed

  • I know one thing.... They watered the neighbors lawn pretty well with that master stream.....

  • why they have the line shooting over the fire?? much more affective if aimed at the base

  • i figured out where the fire started O.o

  • monitor isnt doing much and its wasting copious amounts of foam. class A foam is supposed to be run around .3 to .6 percent depending on your foam. used correctly is should look more like milk not shaving cream. you want the shaving cream with class B foam which is ran at around 3 to 6 percent. all that foam on the ground what a waste. easy to armchair quarter back though. good fire guys. EGH

  • @Akfiremun Simple wetting agent wouldve been fine, agreed that the foam was a waste of time, money, and creates more of a mess in the end IMO

  • way too much water and a ground monitor are you kidding gesh interior attack push it back twards the garage

  • toooooooooooooo much water what was the ground monitor for and foam oh my god water is doing more damage to the house than the fire is roflmmfao

  • im srry i no the ladys upset bc of the house but its a volenteer company and its not that easy tp get man power i no im a volenteer

  • Is this a volunteer fire department?

  • @wcfde3 Yes, 100% Many of the firefighters come from a distance to get to their station

  • must be they must not train lol

  • What was the first line doing? totaly wrong angle for what he/she was trying to do, and also, why didnt anybody get a line inside to try and stop the spread of fire?

  • sweet

  • turn off the blitz fire... not even hitting anything half the time ............ wasting water

  • They should have grabbed a marshmallow.

  • i feel bad for who lives their thats like a brand knew house they have to build now

  • Very good video. I am going to email it to my fire chief maybe he can show some of the new guys that have never actually been involved in a structure fire how things can move quickly. So far they think fire is nothing I try to tell them that it is a living thing and things can go bad fast. So kudos on the video.

  • just taking there time thats a suburban department for ya

  • All I am gona say is improper line placement

  • put water to the fucking flames the gutters don't need cleaning

  • I dont know a thing about putting fires out, and i am from america, but wow it sure did seem like they could have got to work quicker on that place, i mean damn, just crazy slow to get to sprayin. . and a hummer firetruck???? nice! lol

My condolonces to whomever lost their house that night.

  • i dont care which country has better firefighters... i know they did a crappy job on this one...and i wish the homeowner would shut the fuck up...

  • Im guessing this is a volunteer department and you never know how many people you will have responding on the first truck. That monitor was in a really bad position because it was shooting over the top of the fire and house. Though i have this bad feeling that first fire fighter you see is setting up the hose and running the pump because he disappears and then the hose line is charged.

  • to the truthspeaker. Yes this crew took an extremely long time to get water on the fire and made some bad choices. As an American Firefighter i assure you I will put my crew up against any English crew anyday. This is not indicitave of all american crews.

  • Wow Americans Take So Much Longer To Put Out Fire's Than The English. Thats Ridiculous. One Hose To Put Out House Fire's? Thats One Reson i Like To Know I Live In The Uk. Reliable Service's. Thank God For 999.

  • @TheTruthSpeaker99 most fire depts in the US dont take that long infact the US is known for having very fast pace aggressive firefighters and depts so dont go judging the whole US fire service on one dept

  • right after this ended i heard fire trucks. . .

  • i understnd that fire brigades around the world do different things, but it seems to me that americans take a long time to get water onto to a fire... down here in victoria we would have had water onto that first truck onscene alot quicker then these crews did... we dont get flash overs its pretty rare due to our structures but maybe if water was on the garage quicker this flash over would not of happened?

  • how many obese firefighters can I see in this video. wow...get fit and respond and know where to shoot your lines.

  • @ballsofun i agree what a waste of water from the ground monitor..., shouldve been place in front of garage with semi fog and knock it down

  • the monitor really didnt do anything spraying it over the top of the garage just wasted water it should have been in front of the garage on like 60% fog would have knock the crap out of it.

  • @notitle27 as above reply i agree totally

  • just a thought. the 3inch would have worked better in the front of the garage where the heavy fire was. but other then that good job

  • it isnt putting out without a fight eh

  • kewl

  • 2 houses now! This fire is spreading like a disease! This freaks me out!

  • If anything they tried to get rid of the attic fire. I don't see the sense in that but it could explain why they acted that way...?

  • Opinons are like butt holes, but as a fire fighter I don't understand the attack on the house.I will give the crew the benefit of the dought in knowing/seeing something on the scene that I don't see, but according to the clock it took only 2 mins to get water charged. Thats great but they would have saved alot more with an interior attack working back on the fire. Someone also needs to learn how to regulate the foam. Way to much. Thank God that all went home safe.

  • All I can say in their defense is if someone was in that house and it flashed as you saw, what would have happened to them. I think it was a good call in that aspect to darken the fire down from the exterior

  • First let me say that I don't want to argue if they where right or wrong.

They did what they thought they needed to for the situation they saw on scene.

I see plenty of time to get the house cooled down to the point of stopping the flashover, but I wasn't there.

They took everybody home so it waws a good fire attack.

  • So true, I am not arguing. I just couldn't imagine being inside a flashover like that. Scary shiat if you ask me

  • @mabas21, seems you not only need to learn what flashover is but the causes and prevention as well. Of course I'm a bit of a hard case being a member the department that set the national standard 6 minute up and down ventilation technique as well as houses the best and most advanced flashover training facility in the State of California. We also pioneered Tactical Ventilation-forced flow fire isolation techniques. Training saves lives. Proper venting would have prevented that tiny thermal push.

  • @tubesteakdynamo shut up

  • @tubesteakdynamo It looked like they turned the line on and it hit the windows, causing them to shatter with the temperature difference. Do you think that is what happend?

  • @mabas21 < First, if men were in that house fighting the fire, it would not have spread as fast as it did. Second, there was no flashover. What you saw is a Rollover, The fire pushed (rolled) it's heat through the attic space and found a entry point like a light fixture or heating vent and igniting the gasses lingering near the ceiling "rolling" the fire to a new part of the house. Notice that it went out as soon as the gasses were used up. A flashover would have continued to burn.

  • @mabas21 I THINK THIS FIRE DEPARTMENTS FALLS IN THAT SCARED LIST VERY MUCH SOOO GET IT TOGETHER

  • @firemedic2210 Get what together?

  • @firemedic2210 If you aren't scared you shouldn't be doing this. Exactly what was it that was done "wrong" here? I can pick out a few things, but nothing that puts anyones life in danger. An interior attack wouldn't have changed the out come.Property can be replaced. It's just stuff. Yeah, it's an inconvenience, but it's just stuff.

  • im speechless... someone please tell me what you are trying to do...did yall not like the lady who owned the house? why didnt you at least try to put the fire out? masterstream isnt even hitting the flames. its going over the house.

  • Comment removed

  • the first guy there made a bad play on the attack... it went downhill from there... and foam is everywhere they have a big mess to clean up.but on a good note, they got the fire out and they have nice equipment..

  • Blitz monitor i love those things we got 3 of them they work great on structure fire's

  • Pretty good pressure...

  • who is the retarded lady that keeps yelling?

  • The homeowner that lived across the street

  • sad attempt of putting out a fire....

  • Good video... It appears this department needs to go back to the basics and not get caught up with the fancy equipment. (i.e. Tower, Foam, & Monitor) Keep it simple: A couple handlines with an interior attack to push it back towards the garage should've put a quick stop to this one. This is merely my opinoin though!

  • ok cool cool. yeah heard about the trailer fire. need to get some more merrillville fires lol we had couple good ones

  • If I wasn't arrested on the 4th Bridge collapse and they weren't pressing foward with the courts I would be more than happy. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, sorry

  • it is good you don't have fires. that means no one loses their house and belongings.

  • yeah i guess that is a good point i didnt think about the water pressure. but still they could of stopped that flash over though....that would drive me crazy if i had to be on a defensive station.i love going into the fire. when you going to get the ambulance video up on here from 65 in merrillville? pretty sure that was you i seen

  • Yep, that was me out there. With the new camera I can only get the video off via a firewire onto the pc. That computer took a crap so I have to get another one running. It will be up asap along with a wicked trailer fire in Gary. Thanks for the comment and stay safe

  • real good video!! all i have to say is why. realy need a monitor and areial for the fire. and for the montor not even spraying the fire. big big waste of water. from my understanding from my soruces of people outt that way ogden dunes are a defenseive attack department. could of sent a team in through the front door and stop it from going through the house.

  • I was a volunteer for about 8 years at a defensive department, drove me up a wall. In all my time I have never been confronted with a flashover like that and could never imagine being stuck in there. I honestly believe the guy on the monitor had no idea where the water and foam mixture was going. The tower though, have to figure, it was pumping 1,200 gallons a minute if not more. Have to admit that will knock a fire down of this caliber real quick. I have found Porter County is defensive.

  • Sorry, ran out of characters. I figure if the property is sooooo far gone, why go in. Another point most don't know, Ogden Dunes is one of the highest points in Porter County, water pressure there sucks because of that. Not making excuses, just adding a fact or two. Thanks for the comment and stay safe out there

  • amazing video! great shot!

  • Thanks for the comment, just being at the right place at the right time

  • Love your vids so nothing against you. But what were they thinking? Why foam and whats up with the placement of the master in the front/?

  • Thanks for the comment, the foam I guess because of it's effectivness when applied to the fire and for placement of the ground monitor...... I can't really say. I guess from my angel it was obvious the water foam mix was missing the intended target

  • I think you all need to be re-trained on the use of a RAM nozzle. It did nothing and you wasted water and foam.

  • how was the attic open to the garage? if the garage had a ceiling it would have been 2 layers of 5/8 fire rated. if not then the wall to the house would have been 2 ayers of 5/8 fire rated. shouldnt have been open to the attic from the garage, and if there was in fact fire in the attic venting the rook wuold have been better then raisint the tower ladder, that was time wasted in my opinion. i know its hard out there tho, very hectic in the first few minutes. not always easy to do what we do

  • poorly placed master stream, actually a waste and a waste of foam, foam is not meant foe 3-d fires

  • the lady screaming in the background was anoying saying there fire on the roof u missed some shut up and let them do there job

  • not sure why i see guys doing this all the time but you only need a straight stream while interior or when you need to reach deep into a structure, that monitor is shooting over the garage and into the back yard and doing nothing at all to control any fire. should have been set up in front of garage ona narrow fog. fire would have been out in about 5 minutes.

  • as a member of the fire dept., the capt. used the ground monitor to prevent the fire from entering the structure before the initial attack team was ready, if he deployed the monitor in front of the garage then the fire would have been pushed farther into the structure. the firefighter on the handline was punching through the sheetrock in the ceiling the reason they waited to charge the monitor was to allow the tower unit to come in over their hose and set up on the north side of the structure.

  • that assumption is true in a closed in house with walls, you can push a fire in. but this was a garage that had self vented and burned away the roof and all the sheathing on the walls, the hear and smoke was going straight up. in my opinion a handline in the front door to stop fire progression and a handline in front of the garage with a narrow fog to knock down that fire would have done the job.also a hole in the roof of the house would have been a good idea also as well asa back up line inside

  • I was in the house when the fire was in the celing. The attic area was open from the garage and fire started to extend into the structure. The attic had a fire load and the rafters were covered with planking (for storage). As for the Monitor, didn't do that detail. It was a good stop, the contents (some) were salvageable, not the norm considering that amount of fire early on.

  • Good work once again Ed! Not sure about that monitor & how it was used though. ODFD still have that Humvee? Never could catch it for a photo, but nice looking rig.

  • How much of the house was saved?

  • I really can't say, I was on the exterior for the whole fire. If I was to say though, it appeared the house was mostly gutted.

  • Actually except for the garage, the house was saved. And yes we do still have the humvee.

  • Gotta love those beaches, eh Ed? Great job on that one. As usual though. I want the hummer.........Our rescue response vehicle is a 12 year old Durango that`s seen much better days. We`re the bastard stepchild of the county rescues....lol...We`re within a fire district that "doesn`t do" rescue........Sigh....Or is that , wahhhhh crybaby??..lol.

  • awsome video ed keep up the great work!!!!

  • wow yall dont have lights on yur rescue truck?? we have flood lights that come out the top of are rig yall should really look into a set =X

  • The equipment was staged away from the house, the houses in that area are situated on hills and the roads are one lane. Just about all the equipment has tower lights, just had access problems
