@Bajernus lagspikes are normally a server/client connectivity issue independent from the netcode quality. Facts are: Savage 1 can deal with 128 players, Savage 2 lags already with 40. Comparing Savage 1 and Savage 2 servers using the same provider, you will always get a much better ping in Savage 1.

@lol0999 You're wrong. Darv was the best Savage 2 player back when this video was uploaded. He isn't playing anymore today. Shagroth is still playing these days. The reason why it seems like the Savage 2 guy is a newbie is simply because the Savage 1 combat is faster and much harder. But both players shown here are top players.

@lol0999 No, they made some changes that makes it easier to get more SF these days. Getting 300 SF back when Darv played was even harder. Believe me, it's just the comparation between the games which makes Savage 2 look bad. The combat is slower paced and requires much less skill.

In all his videos he's just farming, heck a builder and marksmen laid down a ammo depot, a portal, an eye and a shield generator in one spot for him and he just got a bunch of exp in 10 seconds. SF = Exp/min. I get games where I get 300+ SF quite alot, however I also have my bad games hence my low SF, I can get 20+ kill streaks but then other games I get slaughtered.
@lol0999 I agree for getting high SF in Savage 2 you have to know exactly which action gives how much xp (how to exploit the skill rating system), which isn't actually a matter of skill. It is possible that you're a very skilled fighter although being quite new to Savage 2. If you're mentally strong enough, check out Savage XR. It's a completely different dimension of challenge. No matter how much you practice, you won't be able to beat a good player in a melee duel during your first year.
@signalgrau83 Been playing Savage 2 for over a year now, had the 2nd top guy in the game currently teach me a few little tricks and wanted me in his guild. The reason why you (and most of the other beginners) stick to ranged weapons is because you suck at melee - for obvious reasons: Savage XR melee is multiple times harder to master and multiple times more fun when you're good at it. Veteran Beasts play melee only. Good human player focus on melee too and try to conserve their ammo as good as possible.
@signalgrau83 No it encourages ranging it's actually viable to range instead of melee, if you try that tactic in Savage 2 you get slaughtered due to range being immensely nerfed and used for distance fighting/fleeing enemies, not as an alternative. Also the stamina regeneration makes it so you can go on forever, in Savage 2 you have to conserve your stamina and use it correctly.
@lol0999 No, Savage 2 actually has both, ranged and melee heavily nerfed. Ranged to a point where it is useless except for kiting and finishing enemies, melee is dumped down to button mashing+chasing, accurate mouse work is not 20% as important as in XR. And no obviously stamina management is way more important in XR, since stamina is very limited, if you miss a single melee hit you're likely to die. You have to engage fights and can't chase like in a dumb flight simulator - speed without depth.
@signalgrau83 You can't button mash in Savage 2, it doesn't work, the pros would just block 2 hits, use the blocks for their speed buff, quickly circle around you, 3 hit combo in the back, you're dead their lungs trigger giving them back their stamina. I have to dump 5 points in agility very early on when I play because I'm not the best with my stamina, if I get my kills I get my stamina, if I fight someone good I have to delay them to get my stamina back up.
@lol0999 I know what you mean. But compared to XR Savage 2 is just button mashing, also the stamina can be used almost mindlessly. Basic speed, HP, damage, mana, stamina - everything is standardised in Savage XR (there's nothing based on random chances or messed up by ability points). The core gameplay of Savage XR allows a max amount of strategy, skill and prediction.
The big difference between Savage 2 and Savage 1 is the ranging. In Sav2, it's almost useless. In Sav1, it's overpowered... I played both savage games and I stick with the second. Better graphics, better melee (yeah! It takes time to get used to, but it owns), more interesting units, awesome abilities, everyone can block.
Sav 1 is for noobies who just like shooting everyone down... Savage 2 is a much nicer challenge.
@yokoleaf 90% of the Savage 1 veterans use nothing else but melee when they play beasts (it's not only ranged war). Humans have better ranged weapons because they move slower. Savage 1 has strong ranged weapons and an extremely unique, awesome melee combat. Savage 2 is more newb friendly because neither melee nor ranged weapons require much skill to use. As a newb in Savage 1 human ranged weapons are very frustrating when you play beast and beast melee is very frustrating when you play human.

There's the same drama everytime a sequel of a great classic is getting messed up: better graphics but more restrictive gameplay. The same veterans complaining about the skill restrictions and the same noobs claiming the game is just "different". It's not just Savage, there are hundreds of other examples.

The combat style in Savage 1 changed massively during the last 7 years and is still evolving. Savage 1 was evolving so much and had so much more potential than intended that S2Games CEO was shocked and called the learning curve frustrating. But luckily there is Savage 2, the mainstream version of Savage, which stayed how S2Games designed it - boring and without hidden potential.

@produde21 Savage 2 isn't hard for someone who doesn't only play MMOs and single player RPGs. I got bored because the combat is boring and doesn't reward skill enough. It's a fun game, but a game for casuals. The competitive scene in Savage 2 is kinda dead.
The worst part is having to pay an extra $10 for runes so I can have the same stats as other players. I gave the game 4 weeks before I decided it was no longer worth my time.
I played Savage 1 for about two years. As a highly experimental game it had a ton of flaws, but it was still a great game. I stopped playing mostly because of computer issues. I preordered Savage 2 for $30 out of loyalty, but never bothered to play it until last December. The RTS part of the game is actually better, but the combat is so lame that it's not even worth playing.

And the games are SO different that you can hardly compare it. At the very moment i see Savage2 progressing more thans Savage1 even though the XR RC3 was released. Yes, both games are good although entirely different. It was S2Games right to base their marketing on a lie and to relate those games. S2 should be considered as a separate game and not a sequel, but most S2 players don't. I have Savage 1 and Savage 2 installed on my computer I play both all the time. They are many difference between them. Savage 1 is fun Savage 2 is fun but require more skills and hard to be good at it if you don't like to give it like 100 matches to get better. Savage 1 has powerful range weapons which many gamers like unlike Savage 2.
MoGa, why do you think was Savage 2 almost dead after less than a year? Because the Savage community rarely supported that game. Why? Because Savage 2 isn't a sequel to Savage 1 and because S1 is way better.
When they made it "Freeware" a new community grew up, which had no idea about the first title - but still spam each comment page at youtube with their "Oh my god, play savage 2, it's new and better!".

Reduced freedom of choice and reduced rewards of good imagination and creativity by fixed roles for each unit, furthermore reduced effects of skill and talent by scripted abilities of what was hard to learn and performed with mousework before.
In a nutshell: Each possibility of the game play has to be made bloddy obvious and able to be possessed. Player skill becomes character skill - private property.

well i played savage 2 for the first time yesterday, the game is quite hard.. never played savage 1 though, it looks even harder to play...

The worst part is having to pay an extra $10 for runes so I can have the same stats as other players. I gave the game 4 weeks before I decided it was no longer worth my time.

I played Savage 1 for about two years. As a highly experimental game it had a ton of flaws, but it was still a great game. I stopped playing mostly because of computer issues. I preordered Savage 2 for $30 out of loyalty, but never bothered to play it until last December. The RTS part of the game is actually better, but the combat is so lame that it's not even worth playing.

Ladies please calm down - Savage1 and Savag2 have the same origin - are the same family. So there is no need to shout at each other.
And the games are SO different that you can hardly compare it. At the very moment i see Savage2 progressing more thans Savage1 even though the XR RC3 was released. The playercounts are just disappointing because Savage1 deservs more attention as it got atm. Some prefer Savage1 other Savage2 but you can not say - one is better than the other.
Simple as this.

Yes, both games are good although entirely different. It was S2Games right to base their marketing on a lie and to relate those games. S2 should be considered as a separate game and not a sequel, but most S2 players don't. They come here to youtube with their incredible incompetence and are arrogant enough to relate those 2 games and to judge Savage. The games shouldn't be compared/related, but if someone does, then a veteran of BOTH games. Don't tell me such incompetence wouldn't annoy you too!

I have Savage 1 and Savage 2 installed on my computer I play both all the time. They are many difference between them. Savage 1 is fun Savage 2 is fun but require more skills and hard to be good at it if you don't like to give it like 100 matches to get better. Savage 1 has powerful range weapons which many gamers like unlike Savage 2.

MoGa, why do you think was Savage 2 almost dead after less than a year? Because the Savage community rarely supported that game. Why? Because Savage 2 isn't a sequel to Savage 1 and because S1 is way better.
When they made it "Freeware" a new community grew up, which had no idea about the first title - but still spam each comment page at youtube with their "Oh my god, play savage 2, it's new and better!".
Are you any good at Savage 1? i doubt it.

I was good enough I still connect to Savage 1 and I'm not raging like other about which one is better ,, the melee system in Savage 2 is way better .. yeah the units are a bit slower than Savage 1 but its more complicated .. it took me a month to get better while savage 1 it took me less than a week. I love both and I think Savage 2 need some respect from Savage 1 community .

You've played Savage 1 for more than 1000 hours (according to newerth stats) but your skill level is not even average. 5 months after you started playing Savage you still had a KD less than 1:4 (according to your second account from july 2006). You also played Savage 2 for more than 1000 hours but you managed to become average skilled in 4-5 months and a good player as you are today.
I don't care how skilled I am or you are, but seriously, stop lieing already.

I dont care either what do you think or what smartass you think you are but again this is how Savage 1 community act all the time im not surprised. Savage 2 has karma history look at the first week of playing how many karmas i got .. Savage 1 sux compared to Savage 2 and everyone one who don't like savage 2 thats because he is lazy gamer who don't know what the real melee is. so admit it you could'nt get better in Savage 2 so simply Savage 2 sux not you (Savage 1 community opinion).

I think the Savage community showed enough respect by buying Savage 2 (while getting heavily disappointed). Some even bought it just to say thank you to S2Games for "Savage: The Battle for Newerth" which was already freeware when they started playing.
No, melee in Savage 2 is neither more complicated nor better. (Ask someone which is good at both games, since you're not good enough in Savage 1 to judge that.)
I'm raging about the incompetence of most S2 players juding S1, not about the games.

@ derrickjohnstone - How many people play savage 2? Compare that to how many people play savage 1. If S2 games gave a shit about savage2 they would be patching it up and fixing the borken piece of crap that it is instead of letting it die more & more every day. Savage 1 has people always working to make it better hence the bigger playing population. Savage2 is a joke, you might say that this vid is propoganda...but when thousands of people pre-order savage2 then dump it , that isn't propoganda.

@Yoshihhhh Savage 2 is downloaded 450-500 times/day, Savage 1 only 120-140 times/day. However, Savage 2 is dieing 5-10% each week while the Savage 1 population stays stable. Why doesn't that surprise me?

To hell with boundaries. To hell with skill. I agree, Savage 2 is more RPGish. Which means:
Reduced freedom of choice and reduced rewards of good imagination and creativity by fixed roles for each unit, furthermore reduced effects of skill and talent by scripted abilities of what was hard to learn and performed with mousework before.
In a nutshell: Each possibility of the game play has to be made bloddy obvious and able to be possessed. Player skill becomes character skill - private property.
