If religion's your thing, then fine. However, there is no escaping the fact that religion is completely irrational, illogical, full of contradictions, superstitions and it is the greatest tool to separate people. Most importantly; religion is - like it or not - created by humans, and clearly is just a way to cope with having to randomly exist in a vast universe. Also, your religious beliefs completely depend on where you were born. The only road to actually knowledge, goes through science.
I feel sorry that his (Nathan "The Forgotten Son") background has made it even more difficult to accept religion. I'm not overtly religious my self and see the same thing in which he has pointed out. Even if the Bible had been unchanged, I don't know why they think that's such a winning point for its truth. The Egyptian Book of the Dead is unchanged and it's older than the Bible. Does that mean it's true? According to the evangelist's own argument, it must be! Why then don't they all run out and start worshipping Ra and Isis? Could it be that they don't find their argument convincing?
They need to be pressed like this on arguments that could apply equally to any other religion.

The Westboro baptists have acurately interpretated the bible in my opinion.
It is just that most christian apologists don't want to admit what a nasty peice of work the bible really is ... particularly the old testament.

It's actually INCREDIBLE that he was able to leave. I mean, just think about how much brainwashing occurred to him and how many horrible ideas were forced into him. Just the fact that he was even able to think for himself is amazing, but that he could take it to this extent seems almost impossible. I wish I could shake his hand

@MITCHsaysHI - Yes, its quite amazing. Kudos to him...and its tough to lose your family, especially in the face of finding your truth.
So far it looks like only one individual from that whole family broke away and doesnt drink the koolaide...not very good averages. Wonder if any of the grandkids know about this family member...and if they do, do they secretly wish they had the same freedom?

He and I had spoken for about two hours straight the day before so things were very smooth in the interview. Also, he had just spoken to a crowd of about 500 people for the Centre for Inquiry Gay Pride Event so I feel like we were able to get right into the good questions.

But I'll need more that a story in the national enquirer or the bible (an ancient version of the national enquirer) to convince me.

No atheist will think "Oh, war and disease, thanks for the perfection and beauty, god" when they see a history book or catch some horrible disease. But don't worry, I don't know of any atheists that flat-out reject any possibility of a god. Basically every atheist that is capable of thinking will say there is a possibility, but there is no proof that one exists, yet. We're willing to be shown proof, but it has to be proof, not a book or faith. Hope this doesn't sound mean
