The lyrics are heavy. Leaving someone who will break down as a result. (S)he loved you, you left her/him. Damaged beyond repair, what an intense song.
The mesmerizing sounds of this song and the strain of sadness carried in word and tune are simply amazing. Surely, this is one of the hidden gems of the 80's that has been overlooked too much.
Stack up the music of "World Machine" and "Running in the Family" with any two CD's from any band - past or present, and you will see just how amazing these two 80's gems are. Long live Level 42!
i can mind 1 sunny day 20 years ago going fishing on a beautiful day in greenore co louth having borrowed my dads lada sitting listening to this album ,like it was yesterday ,but yesterday i didnt have 4 kids where do the years go.god bless every1 x
i've been a fan of Mark and the band for 20 years plus and have had the priviledge of meeting them after a gig in Cardiff - which by the way blew my mind. This song is one of my favourites, the best album i would say is "standing in the light" this album went around the world with me whilst serving in the navy back in the 80's and it got alot of respect. i recommend it ! bless you guys...........
Essa música é demais. O estilo, a batida... é realmente contagiante e é gostosa de ouví-la e curtí-la. Quem conhece um pouco de música me entende. A voz mesclada com os instrumentos faz boa combinação. Legal mesmo!!! Abraço a todos! William
A great song from Level 42, but this version is not the original, it's pretty much consiced and has different solo playing on guitar, does anybody have the original one which released with the album "Running the the family"??
Man....I was in the UK when this album was released. I absolutely love it! I have the album on CD which I bought at the time. Of course, you are spot on...this is not the full version which is on the album...it is much better!!!
You're right and I absolutely agree with you, It seems that we have the same musical visions, do you like other songs by Level 42, like "children say" and "You're leaving now"?
I love Level 42's stuff....I think Running in the Family has been their best album. I am in Australia, but they never took off here. I don't understand why. I remember travelling throughout the UK and Europe listening to that album...I have some of the most wonderful memories from listening to their music!
I do too, this music reminds me of the good old days when I was in high school, now I'm 38, it's about 23 years away, and I still remember each and every single moment of that period, may I ask you where are you from?
That is totally awesome!!!! All I can say is stay safe....we all are most concerned for you and your countrymen. Here in Australia, we are very lucky we have not had the terrible things you have had to endure. I pray that soon your country will return to peace, prosperity and happiness!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that vision of yours, here in Baghdad everything is different than other parts of the world, but I still believe that one day - hopefully soon - this gloomy atmosphere will be gone, your prays will encourage me and those like me to achieve peace and happiness, thank you once again, and God bless you
Mark King, I think, is an icon, a bassist of rank particularly during 80-90. When I worked at Deltron Electronics in Högsbo, in came a stressed "Rodder" in need of help. Proud Anders (me) could fix Mark King's wireless kit for the bass when they would play at Scandinavium, Gothenburg, I think it was in '89. :)
My best friend back in the day was really going through a white music phase, and he kept bugging me to listen to this European Group called Level 42. I have been hooked on this group's music ever since and this is my favorite song from them. A lesson to learn: Always be open to new things.
having just left my wife last month,,i know were the words come from,,mixed feelings differ each and everyday..today i'm sad tommorrow i'll be happy..
Still playing. Seen them a couple of times in recent years. Hopefully be seeing them at Retrofest in Ayrshire at the end of the month. What an incredible band, especially live!
Forestgumpaed....the best song they bought out as a band,Mark King plays the guitar with extreme expertise,i highly recommend there debut album(self titled)and running in the family.
Good music is timeless, I love this song, and I love Level 42. Completely Awesome and listened to it about 30 times today alone.... Thanks for posting!
Listening to this song brings a tear to my eye. Myself and my wife have just split because I told her my love for her had gone. The words mean alot to me and I'm feeling so much pain and guilt, knowing I have broken her heart...
...great song from a band in their prime...oh well, don`t mean to bother anyone...haven`t seen them for a while...but this album was magnificent...I went to that tour and the one after...both were great...I eventually lost track then...but again...what a great song...
I just came home from the Level 42 concert here in Utrecht (the Netherlands). It was one of the best concerts I've seen in years. They also played this song, and it was a emotional high point of the evening for me. Particularly after a rough day at work, hearing that another 6 people are being laid off because of the financial crisis. The feeling of it all being "over" really had a impact on me. Anyhow the taped the concert for an upcoming DVD, and I know it will be a great one!
our relationship had finnish she still loved me ..when the house was sold and it was the last time we were toghether to hand in the keys she kissed me and i gave her this song it said every thing i couldnt
am now in my 40`s but this song has a meaning for me because I wrote a letter to my 1st love telling them we were over and that same day i heared this song and it meant everything.
he was in the navy at the time and was`nt the best boyfriend but i was heartbroken because i loved him but he was`nt always the best boyfriend. but 20 yrs later this song still has a meaning
I always find people to be fans of Level 42 very nice (Y)
If you go on music videos of the "nowadays" people just seem to diss each other or slag one another.
I was quite gutted when they never played this song the other week live, i was suprised in the amount of "young" fans they were along with me, as im 18. An amazing night i just hope they will be touring again in the next couple of years.
Had this song buzzing around in my head all day today for some reason.. Just had to find it on here. Great ballad. So moving and still makes me want to blub! Level 42 were one of the best bands in 80s... in the days when true artists wrote, arranged and performed their own songs (Take note Simon Cowell!) Saw them live heaps of times. Absolute quality musicianship. Mark King's a bass genius, but Phil Gould's drumming was so underrated. A great inspiration to me! Thanks for the posting
Reminds me of my ex in the RAF when younger it was me who walked away. N we just walked back into each others lives again 22 years later. Funny how a song brings back the hurt.

Oh yes very good choice true level 42 classics this is my top 10 level 42 songs in order 1 the sun goes down 2 it's over 3 leaving me now 4 lessons in love 5 running in the family 6 something about you 7 To Be With You Again 8 two solitudes 9 Starchild 10 chlildren say
Theys are the names your after Mark King bass player and lead singer/ Mike Lindup on the organ and lead singer/ Rowland 'Boon' Gouldon guitar/ Phil Gould on brums / and i think it's the Jay Dee Supernatural III bass guitar
Hermosos, me retrotrae a los 80s en mi adolescencia cuando no había drogas ni sexo prematuro ni reagetton ni vallenatos, solo buena música y amores puros e inocentes. !!Excelente!!
I ended a long standing relationship that seemed to be going nowhere but´the girl is still a good friend of mine. Her only mistake was never being sure of what she wanted and my patience left me, you see...
I still wonder why if she gave him everything he broke her heart...Why is the point of this song?? Well, it is brilliant and I love the music but still wonder that.
this is a great song listen too when I lost everything due to the hard Economic recession, lost my woman I love and my Job.

Name the singer and the make and type of guitar he plays.
And then name the keyboard player. Otherwise just go away

Theys are the names your after Mark King bass player and lead singer/ Mike Lindup on the organ and lead singer/ Rowland 'Boon' Gouldon guitar/ Phil Gould on brums / and i think it's the Jay Dee Supernatural III bass guitar

Nicely done. However , there is an unfortunate time delay on this site.
I was involved in a bass player dispute and challenging a dumb american. Sorry.

This is one of the later tracks of the golden age of Level 42 and clearly one of the best. Beats "Running in the Family".
