I hesitated before buying the Maglite XL100. Figured it was all hype. But then my friends all started buying it. I tried it enough times to see that it's not hype at all. It's an incredibly well designed, intelligent flashlight. To BHShaman, the effects all require you to press the button for 1 or 2 seconds. If you simply pick up the flashlight and hit the button, it comes in like a normal flashlight. With one exception...if you had it dimmed, it comes on dimmed. With the 12:00 ridge easy to use

This lite is not easy to use and can be wonky at times. I am returning mine to the store. They should have stuck to a rotory cap instead of the motion control. Good idea, poor exicution. The light it outs out is great however, maybe the next model will be better functioning and will come without the motion control. Stop stealing from Nintendo and focus on more great flashlights!
i wish it came with a pouch and a lynard or a lest a hole it the light to attach one.other wise its a nice light and i would buy another if i lost it.
I want to like this light, but I do not like the means of using Signal mode at all. Signal mode should use sub-clicking of a regular clickie switch. Who wants to have to rotate his wrist to flash the light? Seems imprecise and annoying.
I love the Lockout function, though. Now just fix the Signal mode! :-)
This light seems good from a marketing point of view. From a user point of view, I guess I'd be irritated to have to carefully orient the light to choose the mode. Is Maglite trying to do like Fenix or Surefire, ie more hype/marketing and less simplicity/authenticity?
Can't wait to get my hands on one. Seems like we're always behind where I live. Finally MagLite comes out with something modern to give my other LED light some real competition.
As a flashaholic I do however has some wishes. At least hard anodizing is IMHO a bare minimum but personally I'd love a stainless steel one. And a real glass although I can see why some prefer/needs plastic as it doesn't scatter as easily.
Keep up the good work! Looking forward to a 2 AA version too :)
only cpf'ers will figure out this mess.

How do you know which way is UP (Dimmer) so you can just turn it on in the dark without kicking off some special effect?
BHShaman 1 year ago
@BHShaman Simple...just click the button and it works like a regular flashlight. :)

This video was a lot more helpfull than the instructions given with the flashlight. Those guys need to take care of that.

I have one of these. It's nice but the instructions were terrible. It took me a long time to figure it out.

nice interface, too bad it's a rebelLED and with aaa batteries.
I'd like to see maglite with a 18650 lithium battery and a more powerfull LED, something like Cree's LED's.
