My wife and I were privileged to attend the "The HILLS CENTRE" in Sydney Australia on 19/2/2008 (Smoky's 95 birthday) to honor the passing of a great Australian. Mr. Smoky Dawson and Dot were part of Australian entertainment for 8 decades, starting in the 1920's through into WW 2 in an AIF entertaining unit right up to the passing of Smokey at 95 years in 2008. A GREAT GREAT AUSTRALIAN has left the this brown land of Australia to perform in Gods heaven.

Smokey presented me with my first Golden Guitar award about 12 yrs ago - he was so cool and encouraging.

What a champion!

He will be sorely missed!

May Smokey Dawson rest in peace. He was a wonderful human being and it was an honour performing with him in the Cocert Care programmes many times in 1988 especially at Expo88 in Brisbane.

I heard an interview with the producer Lorenzo Toppano tonight. He said that he recorded Smoky singing this song in his Lane Cove house in Sydney in 2005, a capella with no accompaniment. He was then 92. The instrumentation was added later. What a marvel Smoky is - no supporting instruments, and at the age of 92 he was the oldest recording artist in the world.... Bless him
