  • I only have Tartan's print of this film, so the song was quite obscure before seeing this.

  • @Maksapihvi I was just entranced by the music when I first saw the film, didn't even think about the lyrics till now, but have found myself singing "Gozu Gozu Gozu" repeatedly randomly on days

  • @Siibillam I was doing just the same thing.

    Quite catchy.

  • Gozu is kind of like if David Lynch, Tim Burton and Charles Manson all somehow had a baby with Salvador Dali.

What a mindfuck...The part where the girls claims to be his brother, is, um, that like...incest?

Takashi Miike is bug fuck insane.

    Damn catchy song, though.

  • @binarynightmare

Yeah, it IS incest. That's why *SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* she gave birth to his brother when the guy had sex with her/him. The whole movie has something to do with latent Homosexuality and whatnot, sorta like Naked Lunch... only I'm debating which one is weirder (I'm talking the movie Naked Lunch, not the book.)

  • @harsawa

That's fantastic...I can't quite recall what Naked Lunch was...but beofre I Google it, I will say, on a hunch, David Lynch.

  • @binarynightmare No, Cronenburg. but close.

  • @TwilightBinder

Miike is nothing like Cronenberg and shouldn't really be compared. Though if you were to compare them, Miike is certainly more versatile, and has made a lot more films. Cronenberg sort of topped himself with Videodrome (which I think I like more than most Miike films anyway).

  • @sunnybrand Miike has stated a few times that Cronenberg is one of his mojor influences. Besides I was commenting on Naked Junch where it looked like another user here said that was directed by Lynch.

  • @TwilightBinder

aahkay.. no worries. i thought you were responding to binarys post. Didn't see the comma in your own, either. Still, he may be inspired by Cronenberg, but the two couldn't be more different. The only noteworthy similarity is that they both make kick arse movies off the beaten path. I'd say they're both auteurs, but Miike just seems to follow the trends and experiment in every genre. I don't think its that he's a visionary. It's just that crazy Japanese mind of his...

  • @sunnybrand IDK, I'd say Miike is a visonary in his own right, Take audition for example, probably one of the best horro flicks to come out in the past two decades. Then you have Gozu, one of the starngest films I have ever seen.

  • @TwilightBinder

Well they're both great films, and unique in ways. I always sort of felt with Gozu he was trying out the Lynch style, though audition's certainly structured unlike anything else. I guess its because I'm used to most filmmakers who are regularly labelled auteurs to have a distinct style that carries on into all their work, like PT Anderson or Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Miikes had so many different types of films, shot in completely different styles. Bird People in China to DOA to Gozu.
