Phil! I'm a huge fan. Iv'e been following your work for about a year now and read and watch all your stuff. I am very happy for you with all your current success with George Lucas and Redtails! One quick question. I am looking to upgrade from my canon t2i. Have you had hands on experience with the red scarlet and if so is this a good choice over the 5dmkii? I hear they might have a body only version. I would be over the moon for a response.
You've shot better. I think the size of this camera limits creative options for individual operators. Where this camera seems to shine is in rendering acurate flesh tones. I've seen dramas shot with the Canon dslr's and I'm always bothered by the synthetic, plastic quality of skin. Doesn't bother me in documentaries, but for some reason it is distracting in drama. Because of the way it renders skin, I think this camera is ideal for drama..
I always appreciate how you somehow pull miscellaneous shots together into one enthralling short piece. It has little context but simply because it's visually appealing it just pulls you in and seems to make sense.
Please, Mr. Bloom tell me you saved the fish... it seems he needed to be left back in the sea. Anyway an other stunning piece of art. Thank you for sharing!

Very nice!! Lovely visuals. To be honest your 5D stuff looks just as good or better. Not making a knock on the Alexa, but just sayin what you do with other cameras looks great too. Again, a wonderful edition to your body of experiences and thanks for sharing your beautiful work. Perhaps this was to see how much low light could be tested and maybe the 5D wouldn't hold up as well as this. Thoughts Phillip?
Beautiful as usual - love the 3d sound. I just wish my dad (r.i.p.) was still around to watch things like this - he was in the film industry for 50+ years - cinematographer mostly - and later in life taught for a few weeks a year at the National Film School (think that was it's name...) - well done, Mr Bloom - keep the projects coming.
@ajdocumentary No, just exposing myself as someone who is not a glassy eyed sheep following the shepard. Philip Bloom can do one thing, operate a camera. That's all.
Seen this on vimeo, great short keep it up Philip!
Also I have a few filmdays planned in a local nature preserve, I know I've asked you this before but it would be an honor if you could shoot some footage with me.
Thank you for the thought provoking images and the music
