Television anti-smoking ads have gotten increasingly graphic, even gruesome, in the past few years, especially the current one. This noisy breathing of dying people can be upsetting for the people around, specially for children it might be very traumatizing.

Maybe is your ad for the a good cause, but at the same time is very abusive. Business ethics often seem to go out the window when the will to sell is the bottom line. Please stop with the emotionally abusive advertisements.

I think these commercials are very impactful. No, not fun to watch, especially if you're a smoker. I've been smoking for 30 years. I have been wanting to quit for a while and this commercial sealed the deal for me. 1 month now smoke free and I feel amazing.

In a nation where "free speech" is everyone's born right, I find it interesting that anti-smoking campaigns are allowed to air such graphic displays targeting tobacco companies, but pro-smoking campaigns are not allowed to advertise in mainstream media AT ALL. There are concentrated, KNOWN carcinogens in cigarettes and people who smoke cigarettes are DIRECTLY TAKING IT ALL IN. The air we breath isn't so clean, , but it is NOTHING compared to smoking a cigarette. Emphysema can also be caused by a genetic defect, & there are many types of cancers. But cigarettes expedite any deadly process & the carcinogens in cigs can "turn on" cancer cells

You also have to factor in individuals that were not raised in this country and perhaps came from areas in which cigarettes are more widely accepted and not condemned as much.... She has the beginning stages of Emphazema (sp?) and I have told her 1000 times if I've told her once - PLEASE put them down. As a public service announcement this commercial is over the top. I would rather have this particular advertisement played at the point of purchases locations like convenience stores and smoke shops.

Being a non-smoker under the age of 50, I have had a bombardment of anti-smoking education since I was a kid. People under that age, unlike my parents & grandparents, made an informed and foolish decision to smoke. So as bad as the tobacco companies may be, the responsibility belongs to the smoke.

This ad just started airing in California. I get what NYC Health (or the California version) is trying to do, but I feel the ad is very insensitive. I lost my mother to emphysema just a few years ago, and this ad brought back very painful memories of her final year. The truth is, no amount of graphic imagery is going to stop someone who is addicted to smoking. Remember that ad, with the woman who continued to smoke through a tracheotomy?

Smoking rots you inside out little by little so this is why young smokers tend no to pay attention to warnings. They think they will always be healthy. But that is not always the case. A friend of mine was diagnosed with throat cancer at age 29 and almost did not make it. He was stage 3 by the time they detected it and were able to treat it. Because of the chemo his exuberant physique went downhill. So think about quitting before something indeed happen to you...!
