Although I have been riding my same suicide clutch jockey shift chopper since 1974, your video took me back to the first time I tried to ride mine, hahaha. Sorry ya ran into a crappy shop to do business with, I feel your pain. Same thing here, except my bad place was Northwest Custom in Washington.
@TheJunior424 This was the first time riding the first bike I ever built and the first time I ever even attempted using a foot clutch, hand shift. I would have wore more protection if I would have had it. :-)
@jasongrim The front end sucked anyway (no bushings or anything on pivot points) so I had to take it off, sell it at a big loss. I ended up with a front end from Redneck Engineering which worked great. There were many other issues that had to be reworked on the frame as well. Do not shop at Thompson Choppers. Check out the Better Business Bureau on them as well. Not good.
@jasongrim I got the frame from Thompson Choppers. Do NOT buy a frame from them. I had to get local police involved just to get them to send it to me after I pad (months and months late). I bought the frame, front end, and wheels from them and when I had the bike finished, the bike was too low to the ground to even pass a safety (I couldn't turn without dragging the frame).
@NoMoney67 That's for sure. The bike has a rear fender, it just wasn't on for the initial test. It's all scratched from my ass rubbing against it so you can imagine the disaster if I didn't have it on. :-)
@BoomTapSafety Fucking New Guy. I got my first Jockey shift Harley 31 years ago, and ride one everyday, today. Don't get me wrong, I like FNG's, I was one.
@chopperkeith LOL - was definitely new to the foot clutch. Funny - I think I psyched myself out for the year it took me to build the bike too. A few days after this was shot I took the bike out for my first trip around town. I was feeling all cool until I stalled it at a 4-way stop and couldn't re-start it because the regulator was bad and the battery was killed. Felt super-cool pushing the chopper through the intersection and into a back alley to wait for my gal to come jump start me.
@BoomTapSafety Haha that is a funny story, man I have pushed my bike a few miles down the road, walked up and down the side of the road looking for parts that have fallen off, and spent time on the side of the road fixing stuff up to keep going. I love it.
@chefadong Thanks. Yes - my other bike is a 2004 V-Rod that I slammed and hot rodded a little. It's a great bike. I won "Outstanding in Class" at the World of Wheels with it.
Love the oil tank location. I won't give you a hard time about the first time suicide shift. Gotta' start somewhere/sometime. Nice ride! 5 stars. Hopefully you've gotten the shifting down.
Hey BoomTapSafety, is that a 4 quart Moon Eyes oil tank? Just 3 ports right? two on top and one at the bottom? does it work okay? Do you have a high flow oil pump? I have the 3 quart tank. got it mounted but haven't put oil in it yet. wondering if it takes stronger pump since oil tank is lower to the ground then stock location and can't use gravity to help flow oil.
@ewachrome. Yes that is a 4 quart moon eyes tank. So far it works great. I don't think it is really any lower than if you were to mount it under the seat. I used the bottom port to feed the pump and the return and vent come back into the top. The pump is the stock one that came with the revtech. Good luck with your chop.
Thanks for the info. We have similar tates in bikes. My fender is short too. Cut straight across with the rear axle line. My bike is not as raked out as yours though. and I'm running a 200 back tire. No ard tail for me either. I want my kindey stones to stay put! Your bike has a cool stance. Looks fast standing still. Ride safe.
Bad ass bike! I'm on my 5th year with my project. I should be on the road by New Years. I jockey shift mine too. My wife laughed when I stalled in the begining too! Congratulations on the awesome bike.
Thanks Man. I like what you did with your rocker. The front end is from Thompson Choppers but I'm actually going to change it to a Redneck Engineering one. The look will be the same but the design of the rockers is a little better. You can't see it in the video but I've got a digital speedo machined into the triple tree - looks sweet.
even though i know how hard it is to part with something after you put your own time into building it i'm serious about it, if you ever think about selling let me know.
@kankk23 Hi There. I ended up pulling the front end off because it didn't give the frame enough clearance and had to put a longer one on. If you want it - I'm selling (the front-end, not the chopper).
@BoomTapSafety Hey man. thanks for the offer but i just put some 20 inch apes on my sled. i'm done modding the bike for now. need to save some dough plus i'm having way too much fun riding with the apes, i don't wanna put her back on the lift again unless i have to.
A hand shifter with a foot clutch. Given the nickname back in the day because if your foot slips off the clutch while stopped at an intersection, it could launch you into traffic. This is made less dangerous these days because at least you have a front brake to stop the bike with.
2nd takeoff was good man, hows that clutch werkin out? i chopt a bike and thinkin of puttin a footclutch on it but it might be a bitch since it wont handle good for shit at low speeds
I was surprised how quickly I caught on. It really feels like shifting a car. If you are thinking about it, just do it. It's not as freaky as you'd think.
Electric start!! Are you kidding me?

Awesome man!! I've been riding with suicide clutch for almost a year now, and i\I never want to shift any other way!
Enjoy the ride!

is a suicide clutch like a automatic?
jm300ful 7 months ago
@jm300ful No - not automatic. In reality mine really isn't a proper "suicide" clutch. It is a foot clutch and a hand shift.

@chopperkeith FNG?? Do tell.
Yeah - I suppose it is isn't a "suicide clutch" proper. Foot clutch with hand shift.
