  • Music sucks

  • Theres alotta reasons why they took these things outta work

  • poluentes

  • My vavorite of all the loco's out there

  • 1:24 is that a fire or hella dark smoke?

  • Me like ALCO, my railroad has 2 of them in running condition, both are ex. US Army and US Airforce RSD1 locomotives with 1000 horsepower. One of them can be seen briefly in this video here, #8669 from the Tennessee Valley Railroad. The other is off site and it's number is #8677.

  • I had the opportunity to drive an Alco RS-23, one of the greatest days of my life.

  • 0.48 and 1.05 Argentina Railroad continue using RSD-16 Alco USA, Nice video

  • Screw the Environmentalists, ALCO smoke is the most beautiful sight ever.

  • Yeah! the ALCO DH-17! (ex D&H), now that DH17 is in Railroad's museum of Puebla, México

  • I sorta like alco's steam trains better

  • gotta love that alco smoke! :)

  • the music's too loud, can't hear the engine properly

  • why do alco's smoke?

  • Mostly all locomotives "Smoke". Alco's are famous for their excessive amount of smoke to be exerted from the engine. It's just the way they were built.

  • I like them, i think they sound great

but were they good reliable machines?

  • Well they were used clear through and up till now. Mostly on regional/shortline railroads. They were the most reliable locomotive of their time, until they were out-preformed by the EMD & GE locomotives.

  • They were built before Nicorette was invented.

  • Old construction of engine.

  • at 1.16 wasnt that a baldwin?

  • Where's the DL?

  • Anyone here remember the

    UP Alco C855?

They were all scrapped because of the newer models.

  • Yeah, i heard they didin't corner too well.

All sold to the Union Pacific?

  • i dont know about that

  • love the power. and i really like that song.

  • love that sweet alco smoke! nothing sounds better!

  • yeah, Harvey . . . the 40 Class all came out of the Montreal Locomotive works and were fairly standard Alco product - except the side walkway rails were removed, and they were all fitted with buffing beams (much of our rolling stock them still had buffers!) Oh, and the cabs were shaved off towards the top of their sides to allow them to clear our tunnels. It's a tribute to them that they literally worked themselves to death . . .

  • @Toyboy789

Also Remember Harvey that 40 Class also turned the NSWGR off from purchasing British product.

  • @gregrudd Cd not agree more Greg! Although, I have a real soft spot for the British Deltic - what a loco!! But when it comes to loco development, I have to raise a glass to the Yanks . . . Theirs is the science of developing machines that can move the greatest mountains of shit from one place to another - as efficiently as possible!

  • This is a great series - we have all 3 of them and they are surperb, can recomend them. The music is only during intro; in the actual footage you can hear the ALCo's at their best ;)

  • suck. Squeeze. Bang Blow! What Alcos do best! The NSW Government Railways had a love affair with Alcos from the mid 50s - and many so-called 'branchline' 48 Class locos still roar the tracks.

  • They didn't put on the NYC Alco S-1 that operates on The Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville, Indiana.

  • Thats my favorite time period of pentrex videos,i love pentrexs preveiw tape [volume 6].

  • Perhaps the video(s) have an option to not play the music soundtrack. Alco sounds by themselves are wonderful. Some might like the music, but others might like just the Alco sound.

  • yep there alcos, nothin smokes loke an alco

  • Regardless of the quality of the music, I prefer to hear the locomotives. The same with all car videos etc. - why do you people want to ruin it with music? I'm guessing the majority of people like it that way, or it wouldn't be there, but...

  • what's with the alco at 1:24 ?

  • I have all three volumes and it is definately worth it! Alcos smokin up the place!Awesome!

Amd yes, there is plenty of "stack-talk" on the videos. ...And very informative too.

    Highly recommended!

  • what is the music i havent heard it before?

  • Some other videos I bought have the same kind of CRAP "music". I want to listen to the engines, not that moronic shit music!

  • ALCOS RULE

  • this re defines smoking like an Alco!

  • Sweet music

  • I'm shocked they didn't show any alcos from the Delaware Lackawanna/Gennesee valley company. I live 10 minutes from it and the whole railroad is many differnet kinds of alcos.

  • They did. The Green and Yellow "Central Vermont" paint scheme on the RS-11 shoving on the hoppers is actually a GVT locomotive on the DLWR in what appeared to the the Depew to Lancaster operation. You'll notice the CV has been repainted into a GV on the side of the locomotive.

  • Love the alco's, Completely and comprehensibly HATE the music.

Besides, what better music is there than a 3000hpish 50 or so litre diesel?

  • My exact thoughts. That stupid soundtrack blocks too much of the sound. What better music than the sound of ALCos? Maybe Pentrex did it on purpose so we'd buy the videos.

  • you nailed it, they want you to buy the video. I do recommend it, pretty good stuff. Pentrex does great work!

  • what railline does the Alco at 23 secondss belong to and where was the alco at 41 seconds in what town

  • The Batten Kill Railroad in New York

  • 0:41 is Ferrocaril Nationale de Mexico PA-1.

  • I hope they don't have the music on the videos

  • Cool, there was even a CN 1761 MLW RSC-14, MR-14a

  • they saved one of the best for last on this promo... C430(DL430-2nd)

  • maan, i love PA-1 s

  • I ran WM 1689 (for a short distance) and also rode on B&O 800 on the now defunct Liberty Limited Dinner Train (Northern Central Ry.)in south central PA. I wish they could have come to New Freedom to film those units on that run.

  • I own Volume 3 on DVD and it is definitely one of my favorite Pentrex programs. Can't wait to get Vols. 1 and 2!

  • love the alcos. love the music.

    frikkin' A+!!

  • I agree with you on that!

  • There's B&O 800 FPA4 EX CN.
