K thx I was asking early because I was headed to the muffler shop I'm now sitting here at the shop waiting for my truck getting the same setup on my 2010 fx4
and also im about to be done paying this truck off, only about a year left, im thinking twice about commiting another 4 or 5 years and I have also put a few thousand dollars into my truck so i would loose that money too.... but damn those trucks are tempting
Yeah, I traded it in back in May. I picked up an 8.5x24' enclosed trailer a few months back, and it would have been rough on this truck (no max-tow package, 3.55 gears and the 5.4). The new one is a 2011 Fx4 with the ecoboost engine, max-tow package, and 4.10 gears...it handles the trailer just fine, and is a much better truck overall. The ecoboost is a HUGE improvement over the 5.4 as far as power is concerned, and it gets better mileage loaded and unloaded.
@langford2002 Im thinking about trading my 2009 for the ecoboost too. or maybe the 6.2. but im not sure of how a v6 will perform. I meant I dont want to stress the engine that much, and the 6.2 might guzzle too much gas. the 5.0 is out of the question because my girl has a mustang with the 5.0 i will be embarrased to have the same engine on my truck that the one on her coupe. what u think?? 6.2 or ecoboost? i dont really tow that often thou. but its nice to know that the power is there if needed
If the 6.2 was available in the Fx4 model, I would have bought that engine instead. Unfortunately, it is only available in the Lariat, Harley, Raptor, and Platinum....and I wanted the Fx4 for the max tow package and locking rear differential, so I couldn't get the 6.2 in the truck I wanted. But now that I have the ecoboost and put a few miles on it, I don't regret it at all. My brother has a limited with the 6.2, and we have raced many times...surprisingly, I beat him every time.
Unloaded, the ecoboost is great...good mileage, amazing power, and very quiet. Loaded, it pulls my trailer (24x8.5 enclosed, over 7,000lbs loaded up) better than my 5.4 could have dreamed of. Unfortunately, I only get about 8mpg. Part of that is my fault because I went with the 4.10 rear end and added 33" MT's, but I'm still not thrilled about 8mpg. Being a v6 with twin turbos, it is constantly making boost to keep up at highway speeds, which drinks the fuel down.
@langford2002 that is what i was affraid off, that the engine will struggle and make boost and put a lot of strain on the engine, and with time will wear down faster that the other engines. you can get the locker on the lariat with the 6.2 it is an option, it will work same as the FX4. how does ur bro like that 6.2??? and like i have said, the trucks are not for racing but towin and hauling, so speed will not concern me much.
I'm not too worried about the longevity of the EB, it was designed for the turbos and built as a workhorse...check out the "ecoboost torture test" videos if you are worried about it being fragile. And with the torque curve of the EB, it will pull better than any v8 in a half ton...very diesel like. Some engines have more peak hp and torque, but that's not what you need while towing ...look at the dyno charts of the 6.2 vs the EB, the 6.2 only pulls ahead way up in the RPM range.
@langford2002 true that. It is built to withstand the turbos and extra torque, I am only 24 years old but in my family we are used to take care of our cars and keep then untill they fall apart, my dad still has his '86 F-150. And my worry couold be repair costs. but thinking about it what it would save in gas would make it up. Im still debating, im gonna go test drive them both and compare it to my 5.4. the 5.4 is good, it does what i ask it to do and then some, with no problems. i do love it
Oh, and my brother LOVES his 6.2. He got the '11 Limited, and it is a damn nice truck. The 6.2 runs well, and sounds like a beast...plus I'm sure it has a ton of potential if you want to make some more HP. He hasn't towed with it, so I'm not sure what the mileage would be...but I can tell you it wont be great. He only averages 12 mpg with mixed city and highway driving.
There are like 50 thousand Magnaflow kits and muffler styles and lengths. What kit is it please? If you dont know, please advise how long the miffler is. Your truck sounds great! I would like that very kit. please advise.
This is the kit #16612. If you go to any of the big truck part websites (summit racing, jegs, stylintrucks, etc), you can search for parts by year, make, and model...that will allow you to get the correct part number for your specific truck. The 16612 is for the 09/10 extended cab or crew cab, 5.5 or 6.5' bed. I'm not sure if it will fit the '11s with the 5.0 or 6.2, but it may
That is a damn nice truck. I wasn't sure if the 5.0 was standard and the 6.2 was an upgrade or not, but either way...both of those motors are MUCH better than the 5.4. My next truck will either be a HD or Raptor.
@langford2002 Yeah the Raptor is an awesome truck too,i saw one the other day it was all black and it looked sick! Dude ford is kicking butt this year with all it's new motor's and truck's!!!
@langford2002 just two more vid's there's a couple good vid's on the power of this HD truck>>> 2011 F150 6.2 Big Block and 2010 Ram Hemi vs. 2011 F150 Harley Davidson 6.2
Honestly, I don't have any experience with any of those manufacturers other than Magnaflow... But I will say that I am very happy with this setup, good sound, great quality, and easy install. Which motor did you go with on the '11 HD? I would love to get the new silver HD with the 6.2...but they will RAPE me on trade-in value on this truck since the new motor '11s are just hitting the dealerships.
At certain RPM's on the highway, there is a bit of cab drone...I normally have my radio going, so it doesn't bother me too bad, but it is definitely more noticeable with this over the stock exhaust. You can normally make it quiet down by adjusting your speed up or down a few MPH, you just have to find that sweet spot where it isn't as bad.
You wanna trade your mirrors for some towing mirrors. I too have a lariat but after putting 24's on it they seemed way out of place, they have more of an off road appeal.
This is the magnaflow kit #16612, it fits Crew cabs with the 5.5' bed. It doesn't say that it will fit the 09-10 F-150's, but it bolts right up. You will probably have to remove the heat shield from the spare tire to get the pipe in place, but you can install it again after everything in and tightened up.
@langford2002 Just wondering if you have heard from anyone else that tried this part. I bought and it's not even close to bolting up. I had to move one of the front hangers from it's original position and no matter what the last 2 pieces to do not line up to allow for the tail pipe to be mounted where it isn't touching the heat shield and the truck bumper at the same time.
What is the cab and bed configuration on your truck? Mine is a crew cab, with the short bed (5.5'), and it bolted up fine...didn't have to move or adjust anything. Are you sure you got the correct part number, maybe call magnaflow to make sure you have the right setup for your truck.
@langford2002 I actually have the exact same configuration as you. I discovered after taking some side by side pictures that the pipe that comes off the muffler and goes over the rear axle does not have the same bend as the Ford OEM muffler. When you installed the first 18" piece before the muffler you say you are able to use the stock hanger without moving it and it didn't pull or stretch the rubber part of the hanger? I did order part 16612.
Hmm...the exhaust kit should have came with two different pieces to bolt on after the cat (one for one cab/bed configuration, one for another), you used the shorter piece, correct? Mine took no adjusting, just a little dish soap on the hangers to slide into the rubber grommets and I was good to go. It did take a little adjusting to get the tip pointing out straight without hitting the body, but that was it.
I love how that magnaflow exhaust has a nice deep and civil rumble thats not over the top like some other exhaust systems can be, great video by the way and good luck with your new truck too it looks very sharp in white.
thanks guys, no other work yet...only had it for about 2 weeks. I traded the other two trucks in towards this one, just wanted something a little more practical. Plans for this one will be a small lift, new wheels with 33" tires, a few appearance mods and a supercharger later on down the road.
I love it so far...my old 2004 F-250 was like a dinosaur compared to this one. I'm still under 2000 miles, but I have really enjoyed the time I have spent in it up to this point. I'm looking forward to the spring to see how it will handle pulling my trailer and playing around on the sand dunes.

what does cat-back mean?
gst69man 1 year ago
@gst69man
It isn't a "full" exhaust system (from the manifold or header back), this one bolts up behind the factory catalytic converter...hence cat-back.
