Some people love to watch tornados or even just a storm... Im not being mean im just saying... When i was as young as 4, i LOVED to watch these things form... I wasnt afraid of tornadoes until i turned 12. (14 now) but i hope that someday ill pursue my life career of becoming a meteorologist or even a storm chaser. (yeah yeah my life storys boring i get it. Lol)
hahahahahahaha! i remember when it got that dark here in texas! it was 1:45 PM and the clouds were black. it was sooo dark that they turned the street lights on!
My god, i wouldnt want to be in your position, hearing those sirens must make you scared, because you know whats coming when you hear it :), love the vid!
We had an EF4 tornado here around my area of Toledo, Ohio about a month ago. Milbury, Ohio looks like a war zone...it's very sad. This is a great video. Hugs from Toledo, Ohio!!!
@PINKluvr01 The first one was at about 6 pm, so that's pretty accurate. The second one was just after sunset, so it's hard to tell if that was how dark it was because of the storm.
@PINKluvr01 well it counts, i know their was one when i was young that touched down like hell not even two blocks away for just a moment than it died off, but it got dark like this vid , abit darker though , like 1.5 to 2 times darker ;)
@PINKluvr01 Yes it gets very dark during a tornado. Back in 1999 A tornado reg a ef4 hit pettersburg Indiana. I live about 18 miles north of this town In washington Indiana... I guess you would have to really say it all deppends on how tall the storm is and how wide. I also lived in oaklahoma for about 3 months.. Long enough to see a tornado up close... It was 2 in the afternoon and it felt like midnight. So to answer your question... Yes it can turn black as night during a tornado.
always spooky when you hear these horns. heheh, darn clouds they get high and strong enough they turn day into night. Be glad the sky wasnt green though..thats when the killers are loose. ..well thats my experience anyhow.
You mentioned the sky turning red. I drove through a tornado once (and when I say I drove through it, I saw the rain swirling in a funnel pattern over my head) and afterwards the sky was PINK! It was SO WEIRD! Do you have any information on that phenomena?
@hrdknox2000 some scientists think its because of the light from the sun hitting the debree at various heights in our atmosphere. For instance: have you ever noticed in a severe storm the sky at times is a emerald green hue? The theory is that the sun is glaring through the prisim of colors just right hitting diffrent colors at diffrent heights. i hope this may help you out ~ storm chaser from Northern Illinois
@DraconisTheDragon It does. After that. A good samaritan took me to Kansas City where i took amtrak home. besides, It was a 78 Honda Goldwing VERY EXPENDABLE
something was trying to form up there. Must be the most annoying sound. Acutally its not stupid what your doing but it could be dangerous you might get hit by lighting. But what your doing is just awesome. Atleas there was no tornado
In Cincinnati, our sirens sound for Tornado Warnings and when there's a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued during a Tornado Watch. I hear that Indianapolis does it like that too.
Remember that people in Evansville are especially prudent when it comes to weather. Go to the left off camera about 2 miles from where this video was taken from, and you'll be in the track of a deadly F4 tornado not three years before this video was taken.
Here in Vanderburgh County (Evansville), the sirens are sounded every Friday at noon for the weekly test, when a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued, when there is a Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Watch together, and for Tornado Warning's.
I honestly have no clue. The night video was shot before the day video though. (Probably the second and third time Vanderburgh County, IN was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning between May 17 and August 1st in 2008).
cool i live in evansville as well and i remember that day lightnening stuck down on my neighbors house and blew the fuse and got it on fire.the winds were so strong that it virtually destroyed the bird house to its frame.and trash cans were from 5 blocks over on our street along with flooding and lots of broken windows.i live in a wooded area full of trees and dark lightless streets in evansville and my highschool had to get some new shingles and a few windows.
Tornado sirens shouldn't be set off if there is a Severe Thunderstorm warning. They should go off only on a tornado warning, or the use of a tornado siren becomes useless.
Like I said Tornado watch no sirens, severe thunderstorm watch no sirens severe thunderstorm warning sirens might be likely in some cities but not in my hometown of Brownsville, Tennessee tornado warning sirens sound depending how many sirens is in your area my hometown have 8 sirens the county does not the city only have 8 sirens when one of the 8 sirens sound they all sound in tornado warnings only.
I posted my siren from the storm that hit Columbus area on 6/26. Dunno if it was the same day, your date is close. Mine is in the dark, but I took cause of I hadn't heard a siren in years and we were outside watching the storm. So you weren't the only one. Wasn't till we heard there was a funnel cloud/touch down a mile from us! LOL
the sirens are not federal signal 500at or American Signal T-128 the sirens you are hearing are Whelen 4004's we have 4 of the Whelen 4004's the two new addition to the siren system are 2 2001-130's the other 2 are the 3t22 and the EOWS-612 4 federal signal sirens and 4 Whelen sirens total sirens are 8.
You would be correct, my man. I remember being down in the Big Lots plaza (which was right down the street from where I lived) and the siren was a shitload louder there.
all we have in brownsburg, IN is federal signal 2001's for some reason i only hear them do alert (tests and warnings). indianapolis has a ton of FS 2001's and a few thunderbolts still.
we dont have tornado sirens in New York we have sirens for the power plants and for volunteer fireman but no tornado sirens. I am sure the federal signal 2001 siren does its job warning you for tornados
An F-2 came through Westchester County NY in 2006 ripped up trees along Route 9 and the saw mill river parkway. They are very rare in NY and I am glad that they are.
