    thankyou Nina.

  • Beautiful :)

  • 1. Nina

    2. Harry B

    3. Jerry J W

Wish Fred Astaire could have danced while she sang WOW

  • This is wonderful - gorgeous arrangement, and Nina's minimally adorned performance just lets the natural timbre of her voice shine. Glorious.

  • type in Layefa's wave summerjoy

  • 1984msmocha got it all wrong perhaps people really should know what there talking about before they post

  • Everything Ms. Simone touches with her soulful voice turns to solid gold......Classic.....

  • one of the best versions out there...thank you

  • this must be the very best version, done by some greats, but Nina really has cracked it""". Brill.

  • She sings with the angels, Mr Bojangles dances with the angels.... Perfect partnership x

  • indeed...perfect

  • She caught it perfectly.

  • This song has been covered by almost everybody, and I must admit I was not fan until I heard this version. She seems to have the right voice and cadence to pull it off.

  • I love this song :) and fyi: this song was written about bill "bojangles" robinson. He was a famous dancer and actor. He appeared in several movies in the 20s, 30s, and 40s including movies with a young shirley temple. People really need to know what they talking bout before they post.

  • @1984msmocha

Common misconception, the song was written about a white guy who was tossed in a New Orleans lockup for public intoxication. Jerry Jeff Walker shared the cell with him, and apparently this guy was urged to break the tension in the cell, so he jumped up and did a dance routine. He used the name Mr. Bojangles, which he borrowed from Robinson, because he did not want to reveal his real name to the police.

  • @1984msmocha wrong, not about about Bill Robinson.

  • amiapunk88 you might like my site cuz i agree with you :) wwwalyssas-secret-tipscom

  • multimoonrise i'm SOOO jealous. she's my favorite singer of all time and our wedding song was "Ne me quitte pas" :)

  • an absolutely beautiful song sung to perfection by the great late Nina Simone.

  • I love when artists can go outside their genre and make it work like she does in this song. She makes it her own.

  • this song cheers me up whenever im sad.

  • So wonderful..... ♫♪ Լღvє ♫ ♪♪

  • please donate and help PLUM ... for a good cause ... only 1.00 helps go so far...help PLUM....plum4us.org

  • Nina Simone is and always will be legendary her version of this song is by far the best cover of JJ Walkers original

  • This is one of my favorite songs from my childhood. And I have never heard it sung fo beautifully and sad like this before.

  • A beautiful song, by a beautiful person.Missed greatly. Thank you Ms Simone.

  • is somebody able to explain what this song is about please?

not from the era.....but im told the song holds heavy race connotations...anybody able to back this up?

  • @MrSlaveMentality This song was written about a southern white minstrel dancer who performed in the mid 1900s. The song was written by a white singer/song writer; Jerry Jeff Walker. The only racial connotation exists because most people assume a street dancer would be black. Many black singers no doubt envision the person they are singing about as being black. In any case, the song hauntingly reminds us of those poor performers [ black or white] with the magical gift and grace to make us happy.

  • @icbutnu thats very interesting. still a beautiful song regardless..

  • @icbutnu ...You don't know what many black singers envisioned, nor, do you know if they knew the history of this song or not. How presumptious of you! No doubt one of those pesty know it alls in your world.

  • @icbutnu But, he was in blackface right?

  • @icbutnu What does that have anything to do with the music white or black we can all sing and envision whatever we wish. Don't assume all black people think one way or the next just because of there race but in the light of all that I agree with your last sentence.

  • @icbutnu Does it really matter what collor of skin the subject or writer has?

What i think matters, is imaginations u have with this song/story.

    Interesting backgroundinfo though

  • @MrCheckbox check wikipedia for the real background info ....

  • @icbutnu no sir...the dancer was NOT white he was black! ever watched Shirley Temples movies?! he appeared in several of them...

  • @ncbloom "once nina touches a tune, everyone else can just go home", that's not true about Elis Regina because she could surpass Nina and vice-versa.

  • @ncbloom "once nina touches a tune, everyone else can just go home", that's not true about Elis Regina.

  • beautiful

  • one of my BEST songs EVER

  • Nothing against Mr. Davis Jnr.. he never seemed to put anything new into his performances that I've seen. But each to his own.....

  • Whatever I lose, I'll always have Elis Regina and Nina to listen to. So I sigh; ah...

  • i called my cat mr boojangles:L

  • There's only 2 versions of this song that I have heard that I think are worth listening to, Nina Simone is 1 and Tom T Hall is the other.

  • @Paul02111960

    really? no sammy?

  • Some people have it all..... and then some.

  • Ms. Nina Simone touches your charkras with her voice and eclectic placements, even the off-key notes.

  • her voice still sounds so fresh, this totally transcends any trends of the period.. a bit awkward, total control, completely human and emotionally thoughtful.. RIP NINA

  • if i had to choose one person to listen to for the rest of my life its nina

  • yes agreed....go home

  • haha the usual (3) retarted push the down button here too!!

  • absolutely lovely and spine tingling at the same time!

    God bless Nina.

    Brian

  • God bless Mr. Bojangles, it's rare for someone to have such a natural talent. Most of us have to work very hard for it.

I love the slow pace. This is how music should be. And playing slow, you can't hide that wrong note behind your next ;)

Yeah. Listen to Ray Charles' brilliant slow version of "Yesterday ".

Maybe we need a SlowMusic movement to go along with SlowFood?

You need more breath, emotion and effort to sing slowly - and all the mistakes show up more clearly. But you also get time to recuperate and emote and improvise ahead. And to think about what you're singing about.

  • esta musica e uma oração de tao bela e comfortante.

  • Besides being among my favorite singers, Nina's voice is able to change my mood like none other... There's so much emotion in her singing... it's almost unbelievable...

  • Nina still brings me to my happy place where music riegns supreme....Love ya Nina,R.I.P.

  • Wow!!

  • The way she sings this song...blows me away...evrytime!

  • Memories of my Moongar...... thank you

  • Maybe Chet Atkins version is better, but it is bloody close. Thats for sure. I love the slow pace. This is how music should be. And playing slow, you can't hide that wrong note behind your next ;)

  • @santax123

I don't know if you think that Chet Atkins wrote the song, but he didn't write this song it was a guy called Jerry Jeff Walker. No doubt he's made several millions from all the cover versions by popular artists.

  • @cleverfeller neh didn't think Chet wrote it. Wouldn't call it covers though, he wrote great arrangements from existing songs. Atleast imho :)

  • @cleverfeller probably billions by now.

  • Music gets deep in your guts, so deep they tremble, great music, great voice, thanks for sharing, now that my city is turning dangerous (cd. juarez, chih, mex) I found music to be an escape from all that is happennig here.

  • I heard Jerry Jeff do this i think before it came out on NPR

M dream would have been her w Jerry or Bromberg together

Bromberg version tells the true Jerry Jeff version story

  • Utte Lemper doesn´t do it that bad.

  • good lol

  • beautiful

  • once nina touches a tune, everyone else can just go home.

  • @ncbloom

...too true ncbloom! Leonard Cohen's 'Suzanne' is simply stunning!

  • @ncbloom "once nina touches a tune, everyone else can just go home", that's not true about Elis Regina.

  • i knew a man.....

  • coolest of any version on this planet

  • robbie williams does a cool version with dancer too', nina will always be the best in my ears

  • So what songs make you tearful, even if you're not sure why? There are so many great interpreters of song - from Frank Sinatra to Emmylou Harris, but Simone's version of Jerry Jeff Walker's 'Mr Bojangles' has to be one of my favourite covers ever.

  • This is the best version of this song. Nina can sing a song like she's the one who first sang it. I heard you, Nina. "Mr Bojangles...Mr. Bojangles...Mr. Bojangles dance!" You are the best, Nina!

  • listen to this, she's a wonder

  • Best version of this song ever. But the thing about Nina is that almost every song she covers you say that about.

  • just beatiful.

  • this moves me more than any oter song and artist, one of the most musical things ive ever heard, sob sob

  • this is as close as my heart

  • The Amazing Nina Simone is the first album I heard form my mother, I was 12 years old, I had a crush on her (and billie holliday)....I listen to many other musicians, different style, different way of make music wich can help to bright my life, but then..then I come back to her!!!alway back to real artist and each time the same emotions, sometimes brings me even to tears...Nina Simone not only sing, Nina interpret the music! she's unique!

  • Well, this is what I have to say. Mr. Bojangles should never have spent one moment in jail. For the children who have been brought up in this noxious lie I will elaborate. BE FREE OR DIE.

  • she can sing thats all i can say

  • so different from miss sexy beyonce, so much better!

  • IT GETS NO BETTER THAN THIS .. now i can't listen to this song by anyone else .

  • As soon as I hear Nina sing any song I can't listen to anyone else sing it.

  • @fredwheine Fred, I totally agree. She was the best. I was privileged to see her live at Ronnie Scotts in 1986. She was awesome!

  • @404Orion AGREED! This is the best version IMO! BTW, Is there no end to this woman's talent??

  • @404Orion The original is still the best. But this is a very good cover!

  • @404Orion I agree.

  • he spoke with tears how for fifteen years his dog and he travelled about....after twenty years he still grieves and I still burst into tears whenever I hear these lines.

  • I understand the dog part really well I have one who has stolen my heart with his good and loving nature.

Nina has a way of making you understand her feelings and the meaning of every song she sings.

  • Une très belle version. A écouter aussi celle Harry Belafonte
