That dog would be great in the field. Always smelling, lots of energy. I also have a brit. Did you know they are not a spaniel? AKC removed them from the spaniel breed when DNA was available.
@edpleasure thanks for your comment. Yes, he is indeed a good dog for the field. When we were in France we got loads of offers, one for 1000 euro's!! He is much calmer now and is more precise about his hunting, he even "creeps" which is fabulous to watch.
Yep, well aware of the dropping of the word spaniel. In France, their country of origin they are L'Epagneul Breton =The Brittany Spaniel. I say just "Brittany". Really it should be Breton = someone from Brittany :o)
@edpleasure Actually the AKC dropped the Spaniel from the name because they point where almost all of the other spaniels are flushers. They still come from the French Spaniel roots.

I heard you say this is an Epagneul Breton, a French Brittany Spaniel. They come in many colors black and white/roan, orange and white/roan, liver and white/roan, or even tri color. The American Brittany only comes in orange and white or burgandy and white.
Heh you put sense of humour but what's also important is patience ha ha. As they can be difficult to train, head strong and stubborn xD At least ours was.
Yep, you are quite right. Owning a Brittany demands patience, tolerance and strength of arm and character! Our lad is very strong willed, he simply has a one track mind, that being to hunt, which is what he was bred for of course. He is four and half now and we have yet to hold his attention for more than a few seconds.
The breed has it's rewards, but if you can't offer it hours of exercise and a kind, patient hand then it is not the breed for you.
I think that brittanys are the most loyal dogs ever, when I still had mine And I can home from school my Brittany would jump run and dum rush me once I came through the door
I loveeeee brittanys. I have a 3 year old female that is my best friend. We hunt birds together, she goes ice fishing with me, jogging, and is maybe a little to smart sometimes. Nice video. Nice to see others enjoying their dogs as much as I do.
i know what you mean about smart...my brittany learned how to open the door by jumping on the door, putting his paw on the handle and pushing it open. I tried everything to get him to stop and just wait for me to open it, but then i decided to just train him to close the door after he opens it...Suprisingly it works really well:)
No, not a stupid question. For us, our Brittany is very much my husband's dog, he just wants to cuddle up with him all day, everyday. The hunting instinct is serious with this breed so if you want a dog that calmly and devotedly walks at your side then our dog doesn't do that. He has to have his nose out front and zig-zags (quarters) under your feet! Smashing dogs but need consistent handling and bucket loads of free running space!
thats great, my Brit is still fairly hyper, but she is just now coming up on two years. This is my first of the breed, but I think I am hooked on this line of dogs now. They are so great.
you need to put that dog on some birds...my brittney is very highstrung during the off season (when she cant use all of that energy) but she is such a wonderful dog, I am sure you love your's as well- very beautiful
Adorable doggy. So glad to see him with his tail undocked! :)

That is so typical of the Brittanys I've been around. My Jake is just as silly. You gotta love em!

maybe this is a stupid question but in comparison to other dogs how loyal are these dogs generally?
