  • Saw 'Michael Crawford' though ' Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em' then I heard his voice...

  • i knew micheal crawford as Frank Spencer, then he opened his mouth!

  • i prefer michaels version. i really love this song.

  • Davis Gaines > Micheal Crawford

    Get mad.

  • I want to like this a million and five times. just because i can and it's one of my favorite songs in POTO. This and Point of No Return :)

  • he is more bell canto than opera.. my p.o.v

  • Sang happy birthday to him yesterday for his 70th birthday when i went to see the wizard of oz at the london palladium

  • I still can't believe that this is Frank from "Some Mothers do Have 'Em"- amazing voice

  • @lmamd87 When I figured out that Frank Spencer was the Phantom of the Opera I believe I wept with joy that the world could be so amazing XD

  • 6 people missed the thumbs up

  • @Chloweesaur I've actually done that before!

  • The best male vocal performance of all time. Hands down. The beautiful warbling, the melodious notes, the perfect harmony with the instrumentals make this the best performanceof all time. No crackling in the voice at all. Angels could not sing better.

  • Nobody does it like Michael Crawford. He took the Phantom role to a new level. For the movie the Phantom should have either been Howard McGillin or Tim Curry. That's my P.O.V.

  • I love it! Love it! it takes the mind to a place deep inside that love goes beyond what the human mind can comprehend......Love it!

  • Michael Crawford will always be the best phantom, his voice is just memorising. But I did love Ramin Karimloo on the 25th anniversary, he is amazing too

  • JEASUS CHRIST THAT END SCARED ME

  • what in the world is wrong with 6 people? I cannot even, what the hell. his voice, the music... everything in this song is like heaven to my ears.

  • It's taking me forever just to write this comment because I can't collect my thoughts, but this song is so amazing, that it literally blew my mind. I forgot my name for a minute.

  • @juliebjones98 Me too! My dream is to have my husband sing it for me.

  • @Poet2916 I've sung this to several girls... Haven't had one yet that appreciated that I can actually hit the notes.

  • @taylorstone Then they don't appreciate the magic of this song and musical. keep on singing! :)

  • @Poet2916 Have fun. Most guys aren't into musicals hahhaha. But hopefully, your husband has good taste lol.

  • @Poet2916 in august i was the phantom in a production of the phantom of the opera and my girlfreind happened to be christine so i had to sing it to her :-)

  • @ilphantomditalia I remember that!

  • Wow. No trace of Cornelius Hackle in here...

  • I love how smooth his voice is. Some Phantoms get a little too "growly" for me. This is so hypnotic.

  • 6 people were hung by the Phantom.

  • @Robohunter2144 Lassooed my friend.

  • Frank Spencer has a super voice " ooh Betty i did a woopsy" lol. I love this song thanks for posting :)

  • 5 people don't have ears

  • This song hypnotizes me every time I hear it...

  • OOh Betty

  • dont remove me im testing to see if it works(someone else told me)

  • Bri-ish! :D

  • First time I heard this was as a child inthe middle of the night- I would turn the radio on to stop myself being afraid of the dark.

But after I heard this- all of 8 years old- I realised that there was beauty in the night. It also started a lifelong love of Andrew Lloyd Webber

  • So pretty! I cried when I watched this musical. This is why I love musicals!

  • So pretty! I cried when I watched this musical. This is why I love musicals!

  • OHH BETTY

  • Too bad his vibrato is quite under par

  • Uh, tweaking and changing orginal classic lyrics and notes is f*cking retarded, and a big loogie to the face of mr. webber's face. thanks though pal.

  • It's so eerie and beautiful... I can feel my brain numbing...

  • Get the audio from this tune at tubepull doht cohm.

  • I love how the lyrics have been changed and tweaked to perfection since the original version

  • true music to my ears... i wish he could sing me to sleep every night.

  • Ah yes the true Phantom.

  • I don't even like this show that much, but I love Michael Crawford. Maybe I'd like the show more if I saw him perform. Unfortunately, I wasn't born when he was playing the phantom.

  • This is amazing, but listen to Anthony Warlow. He is the best!

  • This song, when sung by Crawford, never fails to give me the chills...*content sigh*

  • I'd like to know how the phantom could've been playing Don Juan like a maniac but Christine didn't wake up till the monkey played masquerade.

  • 4 people cannot appreciate real music

  • they have not made a word yet to describe Micheal Crawford's voice. The word shall be Crawfordness. That's right. If you hear someone sing like this (highly doubt you will) they have Crawfordness. Or they sing Crawfordly.

  • @Daizzey85 Positively hysterical and concurrently astoundingly accurate comment!!!

  • I defy anyone to tell me that this is not the sexiest song ever written.

  • I don't know how people prefer Gerard Butler. Micheal Crawford is...he's....beyond any words I know. He was made for the part of the Phantom. This song (especially sung by him) is just....*sighs happily*

  • Michael Crawford.. ahhh the one and only!

  • gerard butler was rlly passionate and emotional in acting and singing, but nothing will ever beat this. Imagine Gerard phantom but this voice = perfect phantom

  • @Porojukaha lol wut dyu mean haha? webber freakin' wrote it!

  • The most beautifully haunting song of all time. I love this song.

  • Obviously 2 people have no taste in music what so ever.

  • @Sakura893 Make that 3.

  • GOOSEBUMPS! Mannn all the way through that i had them,

and then the deamonic music came on -.- :( not nice when you have the volume turned up really really loud.... in headphones... :L

  • Holy Crap! People if you think Michael is good you have to see this video - Music of the Night (Kevin Wong) :D hes really good!

  • dude the ending freaked me out, i was relaxed and then demonic organ music O_o

  • 2 People hate music.

  • No one. and I mean NO ONE, beats Crawford as the phantom. All the others, were only replacements.

  • @airthief36 duh

  • @airthief36 Colm Wilkinson eats him, sorry.

  • @airthief36 Amen!

  • @airthief36 Marry me... Now! XD

  • I used to sing this when I was in school, along with a few other broadway tunes. I still think Michael Ball has a better voice.

  • Anthony Warlow has a much better voice with more depth.

  • @etr4039 I agreee!

  • i think my heart just fluttered...good god Michael crawford

  • Omg his voice is so sexy i love it and this songs is amazing XD

  • Omg his voice is so sexy i love it abd this songs us amazing XD

  • AH CANT FIGURE OUT WHOS BETTER?!?!?! i love ALL the phantoms!

  • Betty........

  • my dad would play this for my sisters and when I was little, and we'd see who could be the loudest at the "BE" part (dad won) and who could hold out the last note the longest (dad won xD) then other times, I'd be off by myself with a boombox (old school stereo) and I'd sit on the floor and sing through the entire song all alone. mind you, i was only 5 at the time, that's how much i love(d) this song :)

  • my favorite song of all time!! always and forever!!

  • Oh my goodness. This completed my life. <3

  • It's amazing to think that this man also was Frank Spencer on Some Mothers do Ave them

  • i think i am in love

  • The Best Phantom ever!Michael Crawford is absolutely amazing. He has a voice that caresses the ears of anyone who listens. It is almost like he doesn't even try to sound as good as he does...the song just flows and blends so sweetly!absolute perfection is a sinlge song!Beautiful!!:]

  • I love this so to death, but I hate how right when it ends it goes... DA DA DA DADA, DON JUAN TRIUMPHS!!! Always scares the bejeusus outa me!

  • Michael Crawford is the best

  • omg its like....so soft and gentle it just flowsss....like a butterfly, slowley and gently... sooo beautiful, I'm in love....THE BEST PHANTOM EVER!!

  • I remember my sisters, my dad and I used to sing this when I was 5 or 6. So along with being a beautifully written song it's comforting and brings back memories. :)

I know Michael Crawford will always be my favorite phantom. <3

  • Or maybe each phantom has their own quirks and reasons to be appreciated, as well as their own fan base...? Or that every artist has something different to put on the table?

I mean, not to explode your minds, or anything.

  • hahahah my favorite part about this whole chat is that we all argue about which phantom we like- Raoul doesn't matter :-D

  • Crawford is really good and he is the original. I personally prefer Colm Wilkinson but this is definitely number 2

  • doesn't get any better than the original... the music is just amazing :)

  • Comment removed

  • We all have our favorites and our opinions. I think Gerry did a decent job; not my first choice but still OK. No one can beat the original though, so Michael is my favorite phantom.

Well actually, I gues Lon Chaney is the original phantom...but Michael would still beat him, I'm sure.

  • God, THANK YOU. Most of the Phantom fans are so damn pushy and insisting these days. Can't we just all accept that maybe some people prefer one over the other? Preferably without shoving the whole "my Phantom is better" down each other's throats?

Obviously not, but the point still stands.

  • I think my heart stopped a minute ago. I reallly do.

  • This song always makes me calm and relaxed. Michael's voice is just so soothing.

  • Divine....

  • Michael did better in some songs and Gerard did better in others.

    End of story.

  • @KhemetnoYami: No, Michael did everything better than Gerard. The only song Gerard sang in tune was this one, and it still wasn't as good as Michael's.

  • Whatever you say.

  • @LerouxsPhantom The only phantom worse than GB was Paul Stanley. Don't get me wrong, Paul is insanely talented as a rock singer, guitarist, and songwriter, but he made a horrible phantom. It's just not his style of singing/performing.

  • this is arguably the most beautiful, well-written, epic song I know.

  • @abugfilms my voice lesson teach is having me learn this song. and i would have to say it is definitely stretching me ha ha. :D Gotta love Andrew Loyd Webber. xD

  • Ah yes. Michael's voice is like ecstasy for me; He could sing "Poker Face" and I'd orgasm.

  • ahahaaha. i agree.

  • Completely agree with you!

I am so thankful to my grandma for playing the original cast cd when I was growing up. I've been in love with "The Phantom of the Opera" since I was a little girl.

  • I second that!

  • Oh how I agree, I play this cd over and over..and over ;)

  • same here, don't feel bad XD

  • @AlbinoTanuki okay its a late reply but.....christ woman control yourself

  • @AlbinoTanuki You and me both, sweetheart.

  • @AlbinoTanuki

Hell, I'm a guy and that applies to me as well.

  • Thanks very much for the upload! This brings back so many memories...

This song really just makes my heart melt~~

  • You are a serious loser. Please get a life and stop harassing people on youtube. You and boffinme are complete fucktards. You can keep writing, but I have no interest in wasting anymore time on you or your dorky little youtube group. Lol, what losers you guys are.

  • You are a loser. Get a life and stop attacking people on youtube. That's seriously pathetic. Don't contact me again.

  • This is, by far, the best version of this song . . . I can't believe it has been more than 20 years since I took my girlfriend to see this! Am I THAT old?!?!?

  • Exactly! It looked like a third degree sunburn at best. And I was thinking that without having to have his make up last through a 2 1/2 hour performance, that they could've done so much more with his make up. I was sorely disappointed!

  • I agree! Michael is perfection in this role! He set a standard that has never been reached by anybody else. Thank you Mike for a legendary performance that will never be forgotten!

  • Finally, someone with sense! I totally agree with you! Gerald Butler sounded like he had brain damage! He was so horrible, I cannot watch that movie. Now, to be fair, Crawford is on a level of his own above everyone else. But even with the open mind I used to tolerate a subpar Raoul and Christine, I actually felt jolts of horror at some of GB's rancid notes. I can't believe he got the part! Even Gilbert Gottfried would have been better:D Anyway, thanks for being sensible!:) XO, Katie

  • Gilbert Gottfried would be perfect!!! Crawford is perfect in this. His is the vrsion I grew up with and the one I like most of all.

  • Gerard sounded like he had brain damage?! Oi KTJ, Fuck you bitch!!!

    He wasn't THAT extreme!!

I do love both Michael and Gerard in Phantom! Gerard had that more rock and roll type since he had been in a rock band and that's the kind of style Andrew actually liked!

Michael had more experience in theatre and choir singing, so for whatever reason, Michael is a fantastic Phantom but Gerard didn't have theatrical training like Michael did, so give him a fucking break!!

  • You really need to calm down and get a life. It's my opinion and he sounded like he had brain damage. It was obvious he didn't have the training Michael Crawford has had - he sounded absolutely horrible. He needs to have had SOME training in order to take that part and he clearly did not. He was absolutely dreadful as the phantom. So calm down, get a life, and get some class. You have serious mental issues to become so irate over a youtube comment.

  • You are a classless asshole. Get a life - Gerald sounded like shit. ANYONE would have been better. If you disagree then that just breaks my heart, but don't flip out because I gave my opinion. Here's another of my opinions: You're a fucking moron who really needs a life.

  • You are pathetic!

You are the moron and arsehole because you have a go at me when I simply stuck up for Gerard!

Your opinion was your opinion but it was way too over the top!

Look who's the one who's overreacting now? You get a life! Fucking cunt.

  • Alright alright sorry for yelling at you.

But I'm also a big fan of Gerry so your comment just kind of offended me.

But you overreacted as well so don't just take it out on me.

  • You have a whole band of little morons who back you up on youtube! Wow, that's terrifying. Get a life and don't contact me again. You and your friends are losers.

  • Good of you to apologize. I'm sorry I responded to you at all. You clearly have no life and it's pathetic that you have a group of losers that back you up on youtube whenever your feelings get hurt. Get a life and don't contact me again.

  • I got to see both Crawford and Guillaume live at the Almondson in this role, each made my jaw drop

  • Perhaps because I heard it first, I like the movie version best. This guy's voice is clearly technically better tho.

  • Yes WhysoSilent I had noticed it GB was my first Phantom, I thought the movie was poorly made yet overly lavish at the same time.

  • Yeah, Butler needed a bucket to carry a tune. But his acting of an angrier, more bitter phantom was pretty good, especially on the "down once more/lust for blood/pity comes too late parts of the Final Lair scene. His horrible singing took away from that, unfortunately. Also, he wasn't ugly enough under the mask to justify wearing it!

  • Dorkandproudofit, I agree with you about Gerry's singing. His singing was early soloist at best. Emily and Patrick had out sung him in every scene.

  • this is my favorite version of this song.

  • Love

  • Wow, every time I'm mad, this always calms me down. It always works. Well done, Micheal :)

  • the loud organ solo at the end gave me a right shock...lol

  • Michaels just the best period. He out acted and sang Butler by a mile(just my opinion after seeing Michael live and the film once). Karimloos not bad but he definetly has borrowed some of Michaels moves(no insult meant since all the stage Phantoms are following the basic blocking that MC and Hal Prince came up with) and I just enjoy the passion and movements of MC better. MCs voice is so smooth, powerful, seductive and sensual and has an eerie quality that sounds great for the character of Phantom

  • I have to agree, especially where this particular song is concerned. No One that even tries to sing music of the night can even touch Michael.

  • He is amazing: I've heard three Phantoms--Gerard Butler, Michael Crawford, and Ramin Karimloo. I can't decide, but I think MC is best outta the 3. But only JUST: Ramin K. was almost as amazing, if not just as. He is only 23. Gerard Butler just fails as a singer. His acting, however, is stunning, so passionate. It's just his singing that makes me go...ouch, in some parts:(

  • I agree with you although I did think that Ramin was 30

  • Ramin is the youngest to play the Phantom, he will be in the sequel Love Never Dies.I wonder in how Gerry's fan feel about this. Gerry is 40 now. He will not be doing the sequel.

  • I like the flow of the song and the timbre of his voice better in the highlights version but I love the lyrics of this version. Shame I can't get both at the same time! Oh well, that's the price we pay I suppose.

  • Michael Crawfor'd voice is SO soothing and yet powerful. Perfect Phantom just makes me go UGH with awe!!!

  • Oops, I meant Crawford's:(

  • Same, when I first listened to the CD after buying it on iTunes... xD

  • yeah it did the same to me too sweeneytoodfan!

  • Saw both "Les Miserables" and "The Phantom of the Opera" in London in June, 1998. on the scale of 1-10, both musicals are way up there, past 10.

  • LUCKY!!

  • yea I was expecting what would happend after the sound fades off and then came a blast.

  • this song is incredible. it made my vagina tingle the whole time. melissa is hot.

  • you can probably get a shot to help with that...

  • Great performance! Thanks for uploading!

  • such an inspiring singer

  • OH MY GOD!! Thank you for uploading this version!!! Its quite hard to find, usually its the highlights cd version... = (

  • I have the Highlights version

  • I got this song from the cd of the whole version of this. It cost me $35.00 to get it at best buy. but yeah i have this song on the 2 disk cd of the full version of this. thanx for putting this up.

  • best song ever!

  • this song is orgasmically good!

  • Again guys Michael is an AMAZING ACTOR!!! I know because I saw MC FREAKING LIVE and saw the film and you can't judge someone you never saw perform the whole role! After seeing both guys I would still give every FREAKING AWARD TO MICHAEL. Thats how astonomically astounding MCs Phantom was! Plus listening to ALL THE ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMS back then and ALL THE WOMEN after the show everytime I went Michael was HOT as HELL as Erik.

  • thank you so much for the post i love this fucking song.

  • Michael Crawfords Music of the night is one of the best !

  • not necessarily. I see it as more of an envy thing though. However instead of being negative take that and use it for something positive instead.

  • how do i do that?

  • get singing lessons.

  • seems like you took a few lessons and stopped by the way you're talking, it takes YEARS "Genius."
