No hunny! Stay strong! I have 4c hair and I almost went crazy! Dont be upset your hair will grow! (: if you ever need someone to I'm here ok (: I used to cry about 4 c hair but then I learned how to tame it and work with it. Not its growing better then ever (: inbox me I really need a 4c buddy and you seem nice :D
Girl I feel you...#team4c, I feel ur frustration! I have no skills in styling and get tired of my puff. I've been wearing a puff for two years. So up here for hrs looking for styles and naturals that share my hair type/suggestions/product insight, etc. My hair grows slow too!!! Urg!
I know this is such a long video ago and I am sure u r all good now in regards to ur hair, but just had 2 say that I commend your honesty!...I think type 4 hair does the best styles, twists braids etc..i WISH i could get a banging twist or braid out!!...and sometimes i have to admit i envy this texture hair bc its so pliable!! congratulations on your weight loss!!!..i read one of your comments to someone...u really put them in their place..lol...subbin u just bc I like your spirit!...Be Blessed*
Ok firstly let me say I jus did my bc and my hair is like a sponge I have no curl pattern at all. I spray water on ma hair and it takes a couple seconds for it to reach my scalp. My hair is course and beautiful. I can relate to u as soon as I cut off my relaxer I thought "wow this aint gonna be easy" but who cares, easy is for lazy ppl!!! keep up the good work and never think that ur hair is anything less than beautiful. God don't make Rubbish!!
the below post is my method. ive inspired many family members to go natural. my hair is not dry. its growing very fast. its moisturized. not breaking! for once and it falls. perfect braid outs. twists do not work well for my hair type. soft manaheble moveable hair. its possible. just listen to your hair. and eat plenty of protein...drink water.
1. twist hair and cleanse with creme of nature moisturizing shampoo. retwist. and u. untwist one and u with a deep treatment: palmers coconut formula protein treatment repeat with each twist.rinse. 2. undo one twist and spray with a mix of .25 olive oil and .75 water in a spray bottle 2. moisturize with a little of the mix of coconut oil ( 1tbsp) shea butter (2 tbsps) and castor oil (1 tsp) melted in the microwave.stir. 4. braid do not twist after applying eco styler argan oil gel.once a week.
I have 4c hair as well. Just continue to work on moisturizering your hair. I found that Jane Carter products work really well for me. Please hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will get better
personally I think you hair is very cute,... I have a mixture of texture and yes it can be discouraging and sometimes I have gotten frustrated and done a "big chop" 3 times in the last 7 years that I have been natural.. but you just gotta keep trying different things. your hair will let u know what it likes be patient and dont give up ... but like I said I like the style u are rocking here good luck
i braid my hair up to let it gro but if i really want to wear it out without it breaking i use shea moisture retention shampoo, curl and style milk, tresemme naturals etc...and i dont have a single ringlet, just coils and corkscrews. Nothing EVER worked for me until i found those products.Take it from someone who used to snap combs in half by accident while combing through their hair...
you need to try MANY different products babygirl!!! moisturize MOISTURIZE MOISTURIZE!! im a transitioning 3c/4a i have many different textures. you have to deep condition. awwww dont cry :( your hair is beautiful and so are YOU! im not a 4c but ALL black hair is beautiful. no matter the curl or wave your hair is thick and beautiful love it ! shea moisture, castor oil deep conditioners, COCOANUT OIL COCOANUT OIL!!!! message me for any questions! :) good luck.
hello, i felt your pain because i too am a 4c . my first bc was a year ago i got my hair to grow out really good with different natural hair products such as olive oils carrot oils anything natural i tried and it all worked to grow out my hair but then i went to a perm and now lets just say im starting all over but dont be discouraged i also kept my hair in different braid styles to help- grow it out as well as shampoo and condition once a week when not in braids
I know I'm like 2 years late, but I wanted to share my experience with my 4c hair. I totally get what you mean. Most Youtube videos don't help me. I wear my hair in twists, but they're a pain to detangle. My hair wants to loc up so much, and it's so thick and takes a long time to do. But I like the look, and I've had good growth. I think protective styles are key to growth. Another suggestion that hair stylists gave me because they didn't want to deal with my hair was dreadlocks.
Stick in there sista, no matter the "type" we all go thru something!!! I am feeling that way now....I'll get over it....I know I will never go back to the crack!! try putting it in braids thats what i do when i feel stuck!! it will grow! I've seen BEAUTIFUL 4 hair! natural hair all types have specific needs.....it unique...ultimately I still Luv it!
I feel you sis. I honestly have a love-hate relationship with my hair. I get so tired of the knots and tangles in it, the shedding because of the stress from losing my job, all of it. It's just past shoulder length if I stretch it, but I try to keep it in twists so I don't have to comb it. When I do wash it, it comes out (which it's supposed to shed, but this is ridiculous!). I swear I'm THISCLOSE to buying clippers and shaving it ALL off!
I think I commented once before,I can't remember but i found my self watching this again& can't help bout sharing your sentiments. It is difficult, especially when you see styles you love, but it doesnt work in your hair.We just got to make things work. I started making some of my own leave in conditioners...using aloes( as in the raw natural aloes) oils and a bit of any conditioner u like.. it works for me,i also play with shea butter a bit. the only gel that works is eco sytler olive oil..sighxo
@sweetchem keep on trying at it and experimenting and see what works for u.I am no where near finishing my trial and errors yet..we are in this together
Wow, this was really hard to watch. So depressing. I have 4c hair, I'm transitioning with box braids. Maybe you should try that, Little to No manipulation make your hair grow faster (retain length).
believe it or not a lot of type 2 & 3 women envy type 4 women. no our hair doesn't blow in the wind, but thats what the creamy crack is for. personally i don't need any hair in my face sticking to my lipgloss. our hair holds THE BEST braids, twists, braid outs, and twist outs. shrinkage is a blessing because we never have to worry about our hair brushing up against our clothes...its like a natural protective style. you can snazz any do up with a few accessories. our hair is absolutely gorgeous
I'm not 4c but I do feel your pain! I've tried so many products and my hair is so dry and stupid I had to flat iron it to stop the breakage! Having natural hair with any texture is a trying experience trust me! Everything from people asking why won't you do your hair to having consistent style flops. Stay strong and keep trying! Try to find a natural stylist if you can!
congrats on the weight loss! don't pay atten to the haters, u had a bad hair day, u spoke honestly about it. i don't get why people r not allowed to be honest about their hair. says more about them than u. yes 4 hair is the most delicate, yes putting chems makes it weaker. i have mixed textures 4a dom, 3c, 4b thanx to proper moisturizing i was able to see it in it's glory. i have decided to stay relaxed to see how long my hair can get & will not let anyone tell me i'm less than bc of my choice.
Girlfriend.. I was very touched by the sincerity of your video. Even though I can tell you're a bit frustrated it was still motivating and inspirational. I have just begun my 4b/4c hair journey. 2 inches of unpermed growth to be exact. I have stated on another video that the ladies who have made videos for 4b/c hair should keep the faith and continue to post. I have the same problem with thin hair (even thinner when permed). But I still will give my natural hair a go, and I will stay tuned. :)
I have been dealing with the 4C/4D hair drama all of my life. It is hard. A person has to have it to know what the experience is really like. My grandmother was a beautician and combed my hair everyday until I graduated from High School. As an adult I have been to 3 salons, and they all winded up cutting my hair because they pulled out so much detangling it. I have cut it off before too. Discouragement does happen with this hair type.
Hey lol....your vid it old I know but when you first start out you think you have 4 c because you're learning to take care of this new texture. The detangling is so hard takes so long (that curly hair will keep curlying up on your no matter how how you try to comb it out. It's curly!!!) You struggle with it so much. But as you learn and you become gentle and you learn that you can't go ripping through it like straight hair it just get's better. I don't even believe in 4c
Hey it's 2011 so by how you probably have the hang of it. It just takes time. We went from relaxed (straight) to textured hair so we have to learn how to take care of this new thing. It get's better really it does!!!
I love this style on you!!! Soooo cute!!!! :) I am a 4B/4C sistah as well! Yeah my middle is the nappiest too!!! lol!!! My front and back are much easier to deal with lol! I just make sure I water down that middle to make it easier to manage and moisturize it heavier than the back and front lol :) And when you do your hair do it in sections, that helps me tame my middle down well lol! I do 4 sections, part straight down the middle vertically and the other sections horizontally :)
I am also struggling to really love and embrace my 4c hair. I kinda feel defeated.. I do feel some envy when i look at youtube videos and even my friends hair. Its seems like thier curl pattern is PERFECT! lol.. I am stuck right now.. I have been natural for a year now and i have considered putting a perm back in it. Only because I feel like i had more options when i had chemicals in it. I know that the best thing for my hair is to stay natural, but i feel like nothing works for MY natural hair.
@EyeWearMySunglasses: I have very high self esteem about myself, I was having a bad hair day AND I was new to my natural hair. It's people like you that I don't allow and will not allow to down talk me. I have lost over 70 lbs (size 2 now) and if you would look at my other videos, you would see that I am doing much better. Keep it moving! I don't need to get over it..but I'm over you!! NEXT!!
@EcoNaturale Oh goodness I can't stand when people say their head isn't shaped right. You are gorgeous lady! Know that! But I understand where you're coming from, and ur welcome. Take care (=
i totally understand. I have 4b/4c hair and I struggle with dry, super coily hair as well. But I'm just trying to hang in there because going natural for me was more about overall health, not just hair health. i exercise and try to eat healthier. so hang in there ladies.
I understand exactly how you feel....I came so close to going back to creamy crack...but I refuse to do that! So to keep me from going insane, I throw some braids in and keep it moisturized while in braids. Girl keep your head up and love your hair.
I love you for posting this. I asked God why just last night And i flet a quiet 'it is for your good' . Havent quite figured out what good there is but i know who ever cracks thé 4c,d And e code Will b a billonaire so i am searching for thé answer. God bless u
i feel your pain and i'm there with you. i'm also angry at all the products i brought and money wasted thinking i could use them and yield great results simply because it's for natural hair. i learned that those products mostly work for and cater to those with looser curl patterns. almost brought a perm. saw a woman who was completely bald and patched out in front of me as i was at the checkout...returned the perm to the shelf and walked out the door still frustrated. you are not alone!
Hell, I am saw this video and the date, so you may not be in that place anymore..I am so in that place at this moment Oct. 2011....I thank you for venting and pray enlightenment for myself and us all with this Natural Journey
I understand on like ten diffrent levels. The journey is depressing filled with a whole lot of "God why me?" and did you know the answer is right in the bible. I was really tired of idolizing straighter longer hair. or a looser curl. feeling really aggravated by it all.. i needed an answer as to why other wome have his better hair and I don't. and I was shown this scripture and it blew me away... Isaiah 4:16-26... read this
I know this video is old but have you tried Henna? Have you visited CurlyNikki? She has her own site, she will tell you all about Henna and how it will elongate your hair naturally! Trust me! I love it! Tip: sleep in it!
OMG! I feel the same way. I am soooooo over this natural journey. I transitioned for 18 months and now that I have been completely natural for a few months. It sucks! My lenght is fine and ok. But the styles are ugh and I cant find any professional styles my hair is simply to coily. So now I am back to wigs :-( . I totally understand. i need help to
I feel the same way as you. I was having some issues today and I'm just over my hair. I'm not going to relax it but I need to figure out something. My hair is growing slow too. It's growing but not like everyone that has a different texture. I want to try more protein or something.
Hi I think your hair is very pretty, from what I can see (your ceiling fan light was quite strong on my phone) but anyways I am a 4c girl I think, I have a relaxer in my hair but I'm thinking about going natch.
From the 4c research I've seen, it seems like that texture type has to be patient for it to be trained. Also remember everyone hair grows at a different rate. Even, with the curly to kinky typing, each person hair is STILL unique, you may have 4c just in the middle but quite possibly be
I just wanna make sure that your feelings toward your hair are not coming from outside reaction. I actually love the weirdness of my 4b hair. it's fun hair. I applaud you for taking the step to loving yourself naturally you are still on that journey of self acceptance and you will get there. Practice and embrace the power of positive thinking. What you project out into the universe the universe will project right back to u. Once again Kimmaytube shows you how to grow longer kinky hair.
I think my hair is somewhere between 4b &4c & i love it. i'm obsessed with it. Sometimes it feels like it's not growing as fast as i would like it to cause i did the big chop starting out with a tinny winny afro about 5 months ago now i have about 3 1/2 inches of growth. still a short afro. sometimes i get ansy for longer natural hair so i can do more cute styles with it but i realize that i'm just gonna have to be patient, Keep it healthy, moisturized and cleaned. try watching Kimmaytube?
You sounded and looked so DEFEATED..and i totally can relate.. I too have unmanageable 4 b,c,d,e hair.. it is THICK with no curl pattern and i too believe that others who post videos and say they are 4 anything are usually 2 or 3s. I have been really frustrated with styling my hair and to tell you the truth i wear it in micros most of the time (which is horrible for moisture) i'm trying to work with it though and i continue to try different sites and products DON"T GIVE UP...
@1adadada no..i mean keep it moving off my page..non factor! if you don't have anything else to say that is pertaining to the video, which you didn't in the first place, i suggest you go to someone elses page a chit chat there.Hmmm...it's hard to fight for America sometimes ESPECIALLY for people like you.
@1adadada Instead of wasting time viewing videos youare not interested in and commenting on them, you should spend your time saving those dying babies, which I'm sure you have not attempted doing.
Be encouraged. Even the 4cs vary from person to person. My hair is among the most challenging 4c with tons of shrinkage and shed. We're all different, you need to experiment a little and let go of the outcome. Personally, I like Herbal Essences totally twisted, carol's daughter healthy hair butter, and coconut oil hair grease. My 'curl' looks are usually flat or individual twists and I have to retwist each night. I hope this helps. Stick with it, you'll find something that works for YOU.
I've watched this vid several times and want to cry each time! Don't fret, my love...I too have 4c and have been discouraged in my natural journey. (This is the THIRD time I've gone natural.) Since I hate relaxers, I won't go back...no matter what. I'm trying to accept what God gave me and not worry too much with definition. Health and growth are my main goals. I'll try banding more to stretch than anything. Keep your head up, babygirl! We have GOOD HAIR too!
My advice to you is to never comb your hair when it is dry. Water is your best friend. Never keep a hair style in for longer than 5 days. Your hair needs the moisture that comes from washing. Stay with a good conditioner and do all your detangling while conditioner is in you hair. If you can do most of your detangling with your fingers that will help you keep the hair you do grow on your head. Sometimes being natural means you have to change the way you think about what your hair should be doi
4c'er here. Reminding you to stay encouraged. If nothing else, maintaining 4c hair will give you more patience. I do not like the "extra" things I need to do to keep my hair moisturized either. But I found a trick, glycerin. Straight glyserin. Apply a dallop to your hair daily, wet or dry. You will feel a change w/in a week or so. HOWEVER, your hair will be extremely soft thus twistouts will be a no go. Good luck darling.
Glad I'm not the only one stressing about the up-keep of my 4c hair. I'm on youtube looking for help with styles and maintenance, but there is so much to see. Best of luck to you.
I have 5c hair lol (that was joke) and it is hard to maintain but I love it because it's mine and I've noticed in my community 4c is definitely not for the lazy or impatient lol....I really appreciate your honesty, I have a friend who will tell a relaxed girl anything to get her to turn natural, including how much cheaper and easier it is (she has 3b, 3c hair)
Hang in there girl. I know it can be disappointing to know that you're going against the grain just trying to be natural, and once you're natural, you're still a minority within that community, known for having the most "difficult" kind of hair. the popular natural hair "favorites" don't work the same, our styles don't come out looking right (i'm just gonna say it) and they don't last. It's tough, I haven't figured out what to do myself, but we have to show that natural hair is our hair too!
After being texturized for three years, I finally went chemical free in July 2010. I believe my hair is 4C (still not sure). I am going to continue to be chemical free because my hair texture is what I was born with. I will continue to look at more videos with ladies who have 4C hair. I am still learning how to manage my hair and I will not give up. It is nice to know that there are other hair textures out there like mine. I just have keep searching for them.
You are a very strong black woman who has all of my respect. To be able to post something like this had to have been hard. Wish I had some hair advice for you. I am still new to this. Wishing you many blessings on your journey!
If we as women of color are going to embrace being naturale, let's do it w/o the "Hair Category Drama!" My Sista' is hurtin' & I feel sooo much for you. I feel honored to be in the presence of such humility & openess. We celebrate our hair & want to be free of the "Creamy-Crack". Then to a certain degree put one another in a state of regression! It is what it is, but even the Sista's with manageable tresses still have to work at it too. It would be great to see their b4 & afters! LOVEU!
@tch72900 THANK YOU for saying this!!! It is another state of madness. TWA, BSL, APL. What is this--alphabet soup? If we would put this kind of energy into our diets, we would rule the world! Nappy is as nappy does. :-)
O understand. But also really get to know your hair; what helps and not hinders your hair. I know its growing our curl pattern is extremely coiled so that's why you think it hadn't grown. I thought that to, but when I cowash and then deep condition. I also detangle using a wide tooth comb. Wow!; my hair had grown more than I thought! And finally, honey, stop comparing your hair to others, I know the hairstyle that one woman has is gonna look thw same on mine. Take that style but suit it to you.
omg i so feel the same way you do but your hair is beautiful in this video and so is ur outfit!! but i so feel there is not enough videos out there for us!! im sorry i cant offer you any advice at the moment, im still serarching for methods myself but i refuse to give up and neither should you!! stay strong girlie!!! we can keep each other posted on new ideas for our type of hair.
I have 4c hair..i dont have a problem with it growing. It grows fast, but the taming part is hard. It gets really tangled and it shrinks alot and tangles when I wash it. Your hair may be growing but you cant see it cuz of how curly it is.
TOTALLY know how you feel. I'm 4c as well and as you were talking I felt like you had been in my brain! Ha! It's definitely rough. I've been natural a year and two months. Haven't had a problem with growth but just taming it is a BEAST! But I use the Shea moisture line now and I detangle with Pantene ProV for colored women conditioner. I have a semi easy journey now since using those products. :)
Hi, i hope since your video you have find something that works for your hair. I am having problem with mine as well, however i'm not sure how to grade my hair... I keep hearing ppl say that. But howdo i find out? Mine too is rough in middle lol...
Too much accessory going on, Sorry! I feel You could have lost the the earrings because of the dress with the design. I feel you though about the hair. I have same hair, ntural, no curl just crazy dry brittle hair.
Wow, I understand your pain and I just started this process. I have only been transitioning for about 4 months and did my first big chop last week. It is a little too early for me to completely determine what my texture is, but I am pretty certain I am a 4b or 4c. My hair is mostly thick and course beyond belief. I do not have a lot of curl pattern and many straight ends. I am trying many products and realize that even through the frustration, this is far better than the alternative.

You could have put hyena hair dye in your hair. Read about it on the internet, visit youtube videos, and ask any Indians you might know about it. It has been used for centuries as a natural hair dye. But for those who have dark hair it doesn't really change your hair color. It is a natural dye with no chemicals depending on where you get it that just makes your hair softer, shiner, and stronger. I am sure you have probably heard of it by now if you are still natural.
Now dont you give up! I have the same hair texture and because of women like you I am transitioning and doing the big chop. You have inspired me and just because we dont have the "Easier" type of hair like curly or wavy, remember that we are unique and beautiful.4c is beautiful! Even though its a tough journey, I love to learn about my hair and learn to take care of it. look throughout youtube. Theres a BUNCH of 4cs on youtube and tutorials. or see a natural stylist.
I am so glad I came across this video because I was feeling exactly like this about two weeks ago. I was considering going back to a relaxer. What I realized during this period of extreme frustration, is that it is a journey of self exploration and the longer I'm on this path the more I learn about myself and my true conception of exterior beauty. As 4c’s we need to make more vids and encourage one another. Please feel free to add me as a friend. (even if you’re not a 4c!)
try Redken all soft line ( put the conditioner in like a daily leave in) and Iso curly bounce. i went natural some years ago and I went back to a perm, but I wanna go natural and stay natural for life this time. I see that you posted this video last year, so how is you hair journey so far?
I feel like that all the time because my hair will NOT hold in moisture at all. Hows your hair coming along now? I need some tips so anybody want to be friends send a friend request
@tierrapower98 you will be getting a friend request from me because sister girl i need some help and sometimes someone just to shout "No, Don't do it! when i'm tempted. lol.
I'm so glad i found this vid......cuz i too am so discouraged!! I was just feeling like i'm the only sistah with 4C hair, but i know it's not true!! The hardest thing for me is not seeing any growth, i've been natural for a year and 5 months and "compared" to other friends that begun their natural journey with me they definitely have more growth, EcoNaturale, girl I totally hear you and us 4C sistahs need to stick together and encourage each other!! Love, Peace and Blessings!!! :)
Oh sister, you are singing my tune right now! I planned to try doing tutorial...but when they dont turn or right i never post them....ill try post one some time even if it dont come out gd. I have that issue with the thin back thick front...and nappy....almost brill like middle...sigh....depressing is the word, but i still try to embrace it with my afro and twist outs,...my hair is still very very very short though.......
i rock my 4c hair as it is. i wash and condition more often than others do. embrace ur hair as such and dont dwell on the limitations. i feel u girl but it's still all good. nappy (happy) trails.
If you truly are a 4c (anything like my hair) I completely understand. I ask myself the same question cuz my hair is a little TOO thick to manage. We're like at war with our own hair. . .SMH. But we gotta keep tryinn. Keep trying girl :)
I HEAR YOU BIG TIME...I JUST BC MINE 3 DAYS AGO AND ALREADY FEEL IT, FEEL MORE LIKE A NAPPY LIL BOY THAN ANYTHING AND I JUST WANT TO SAY STAY STRONG AND KEEP PUSHING BC I'M SURE TRYING HARD TOO NOW....
@NAVY03WIFE I feel you. I just went to a place and they cut off my hair to get rid of the texturizer which is not what I wanted. I too feel like a boy and plan to go back so that my curls are more defined. Hang in there!
I understand completely! I don't hav insight but I can understand. It shrinks awful and slow to grow. My hair has never grown past shoulder length. If it does grow, it manages to break, ugh.
I feel the same way! I'm 4c and my last relaxer was october 2009 and my hair isn't even 5 inches long yet and I've seen girls with other hair type have inches upon inches after just a year. I'm so discouraged and don't know what to do cuz I'm not relaxing, or straightening my hair, or wearing braids in my hair everyday cuz that's so me :p it sucks tremendously
It takes time to learn how to get your hair to do what you want it to do. I have done my hair one day in which it looks great and frizz free and shiney, and then try to reproduce it a month later and have a ball off curly frizz.
@4thender Naturally curly hair, whether it is type 3 or 4, is the most fragile hair because the hair has a tighter curl or "coil" pattern that makes it more difficult for the hair to retain moisture and easier to develop tangles which can lead to breakage. Curly hair requires a great deal of patience, lots of water (provides more pliability), moisturizing conditioners and one has to take time to detangle the hair without pulling at it, aggressively, if you want to grow healthy and long hair.
I know exactly how you feel! My hair super thick in the middle and shorter than my front hair. I wear braids most of the time so i don't have to fuss with it during school. I think you should do that too. It be a lot easier.
wow i am going thru the same..i mean i just went out yesterday looking for different product to soften my hair.i get soooo frustrated and some what depressed because i have no idea what to do.I'm also having trouble with what type of styles to put it in.
GIRL I UNDERstand! I get it. I feel like that now and i have less than one inch of hair since my bc. i just let it be. Im not as polished as i used to be with a perm or relaxer. But its me! Once my hair gets to 3-4 inches, I know itll be different. But know that it gets better and eventually youll figure it out. BY THE WAY>>>> I LOVE YOUR HAIR!
Okay, my sisters! I have found that Dominique Goosby, although probably a 3C, definitely no more than a 4a, has a WEALTH of good hair info on her blog allthingsonatural.blogspot. Using her recipes as a basis I've managed to keep some softness & am able to pull that from my 4D hair even when I pass out w/o braiding it down. Take distilled water (1 cup) to 3 TBSP of Olive & Castor Oil, add 4-5 drops of an essential oil & mix in a spray bottle. I keep that with me to 'refresh' throughout the day.
I have the same hair and I get where your coming from. 100% African..so yea lol..im still tryin to figure out what to do with my hair. Your hair will grow because mine is past shoulder length. But even if it doesn't grow just make your goal to have healthy hair. Not all hair is the same just like not all body types are the same but if we have the confidence to embrace our what God gave us everything will be alright..Keep your head up :]
deep conditioning is the best thing. The way you described your different textures on your head is exactly how my hair is. I found protective styles to work great for my hair growth. I had kinky twists in for two months after I cut my hair again and the growth I achieved was impressive, however I did wash and co wash my hair every week. I also rinsed my hair and applied oils to seal in moisture. My hair is out now taking a breather but I am plotting my next protective style. I hope this helps.
I am 4C and I think it is funky! :) I am concerned about it being long, it has a personality now when its short but when it gets longer :s Anyway :) I have a routine for my hair which is I only use natural products I've made myself OR from ''hippies'' essentially who make hair products for damaged hair :) I never use Shampoo. Shampoo is bad! Only was hair with conditioners.
awww! i feel you. i know exactly how you feel cos right now i am at work with a hot mess on my head just trying to front that i don't know my hair looks bad. i actually twisted my hair yesterday with high hopes that i would have a twist out today but that plan went south this morning when i took out my twist and the first thing that crossed my mind was WTF! lol! Hang in there sister you are not alone. Btw you are such a gorgeous lady. Stay blessed always
I have a question, are you saying that your 4C hair doesn't grow now that it's natural, but used to grow when it was relaxed? Or that it just grows very slowly in general (whether natural or relaxed)? Also, is it possible that the hair does grow, but because the hair is very tightly curled, the growth is not as visible? I think I have 4C hair, but I'm texturized. My hair grows fast texturized. Could I expect the same growth if I went natural?
I totally understand you while watching your video I was almost brought to tears. I'm in the same boat and I think some women on you tube don't have 4c hair and post videos and when I try what they have done to their hair it never works on mine. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard.
@504gal1 I totally understand what u r sayin I often get frustrated with my hair and I understand that not all of the hairstyles I see on youtube will work for me. I have to modifying some of the styles so that it works with my hair. I know that keeping you hair moisturized and in a protective is best (for me anyhow). Me and my daughter are natural and so I have a task to do everytime I do our hair it is time consuming but it worth it. Natural products r expensive but works best for natural hair
I am a 4c. I have tried everything and spent hundreds of dollars on trying to find a style I like and thats convienent. I have vented and cried and I am going back to relaxer. At the end of that day that is what makes me happy. I mean who is really "natural" these days. So many people dye their hair, relax their hair, tan their skin, cover their face with makeup, buy fake nails, etc. I mean really at the end of the day its just hair. As long as you are real inside is what really matters
To grow your hair, try "wash and go". I do a co-wash and comb it only when it is wet.. I do not comb it dry thereby limiting the breakage due to snapping dry brittle ends. The styles are limited but it should grow as it would in locks since you are not combing it! Be encouraged! My hair is 4c and gray! Enjoy your young head of hair! It's beautiful!
Hello my sister. You are so adorable. I have 4c hair as well. I feel your pain but u souned so miserable about your hair...and it can def. be that way but I love my hair and im sure you do to but like you said you were venting lol.. I hope you have come up with some solutions. I myself found that usuing natural products work the best and wearing protective styles work the best. Keep the faith and you'll be ok :)
Cont... just needs a lot more moisture, especially water! (is key) & I don't mind my hair shrinking as it's in twists & coved with my lace. Once your hair is longer you'll find styling easier. Cayenne pepper mixed with evoo into a paste at night, covered with a shower cap an rinsed out in the morning is v.good for speeding up hair growth as it stimulates the hair follicles, thickens hair too. Try not to give up our hair can grow really long too :-)
Cont... (use elastic to secure no glue/clips) as my protective style. Once a week I detangle my pre oiled hair "dry" with my fingers & Tangle Tizzers. I wash & condition my hair in the shower whilst in 6-8 rope twists, deep condition & add loads of oils then steam for 30mins. Anytime my hair goes really crunchy & horrid I pile it with honey, rinse out after 1hr with luke warm water, this solves that prob. I used Shea butter and castor oil + others too. Email me if you like, our hair can grow j
My heart goes out to you, I am a 4b & I truly understand how you feel. I just stumbled on your video so I don't no your hair routine but I can share a bit about mine with you it may help. Our hair is so extremely! dry so needs water daily and lots of natural oils especially coconut/EVOO as these penetrate to the core. I wet my hair 1-2 times a day in the shower then oil. I 1st invested in a shower water filter & a hair steamer, organic shampoos (Tara Smith's) & a realistic human lace wig (use e
Hello Sista, I just watched your video and it is heartfelt. I am 4b/4c and it can be exhausting trying to figure out what works for my hair. Let me say this first: You are beautiful and the hair style you are wearing is very nice. What I do to tame my hair is 1. I use a daily moisturizer. It has been said that you should not comb or brush your hair a lot but, I have to in order to somewhat tame it. 2. I use a lot of oil to try to help with the combing and brushing.
Have you tried steaming your hair? I've seen videos (haven't tried it yet but I will) and it looks as if it works wonders for bringing out the 'super' curl.
Hey girl I feel your pain. I'm a 4c too! It's been a daily struggle 4 me I've been natural for a little over a year. How long have you been natural? My advice: when washing first lather with a simple cleanser like dr. Bronner's Castile soap which washes well, leaves no residue. using that first gets all the styling build up off. Last wash with a conditioning shampoo, next put a conditioning treatment for dry hair. Towel dry by gently blotting hair don't rub hair that makes too much friction. I
*HUGS* to you. I understand how you're feeling, I'm the kinkiest coarsest version of 4a out there and I know all too well what its like to be in your shoes. Its normal to feel discouraged. Definitely look up mwedzi and also search a message board called cnappymenow. I hope you find encouragement and inspiration. All the best. don't give up! :o)
I can understand your discouragement. When I was a kid, I asked God why he made my hair this way. Now, I'm proud of it. I've worn a relaxer for most of my life. I've recently decided that I wanted to go natural and grow locs. I know that my hair is difficult to tame and don't want to spend anymore time in the mirror than I have to.
As a matter of fact, I was told by many that my 4c hair locs up quicker than other types of hair. Hopefully, you're passed feeling sad. I wish you the best!
HEY GIRL I KNOW SOMEONE WITH 4C HAIR AND ITS LONG, DOWN TO HER BUT SHE WASH HER HAIR ONLY EVERY MONTH ... SHE ONLY USES HAIR OIL AND PINK LOTION ... SHE DOES MANY PROTECTIVE SYLES LIKE TWIST AND BRAIDS AND COILS LIKE COMB COILS ...DO NOT GIVE UP ERYKAH BADU WIGS ARE LIKE 4 C HAIR IF YOU WACTH HER YOU WOULD SEE HOW YOUR HAIR WILL LOOK WHEN ITS LONG ... DNT BE DISCOURAGED MY HAIR IS NOT 4C ITS 3C BUT MY FRIEND HAS YOUR HAIR AND BRAID OUTS AND COMB COILS ARE THE BEST XD LOVE YOUR HAIR ;P
I hope you are better about your hair now . . .lol . . iit can get depressing when it messes with your self-esteem . . .it makes you feel like you have to work double to look "beautiful" . . i have the SAME texture hair, i always thought it was simply because of my Ghanaian roots and the fact that I inherited hair that was a little too sun kissed . . .natural hair is natural hair . .it aint easy to deal with but you gotta have patience
You seem to have the same type hair I have, except that my hair grows extremely fast. For now I have it relaxed. I want to go natural without doing a cut . I have mid-back length hair with some gray. I'm still looking for the right products to keep my hair length and loosen the natural curl a bit. I could really use a bit of softening too. Can anyone help?
Wow! I don't know what all of these hair types are....however, I can relate to your challenge. I am sittin' here going thru yet another transition. I don't know if my hair is 4b, 4c, or just a plain ol' F! LOL . But when I take out these braids, I will be happy with my TWA. I didn't really appreciate the TWA until it started to grow out and I kept having to deal with severe shrinkage and the Atlanta humidity. :-) Your hair looks great and it fits your face well. That's your style--rock it
ohhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha girl...i thought you were going to cry numerous times. Please cheer up and jusr research research practice and research some more. It really is the only way. I have medium length, 4b hair and the longer it grows...the FREAKIN more i hate it. I'm just the opposite of sooooo many and consider it such a pain in the neck. I'm tired of twisting and buttering up, etc. DAMNIT!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha I soooooo badly want to just be a cute little Halle Berry with that little crop.
@wellergurl Yes, don't we all! I braid my hair EVERY Dayum nite. And if I don't, I will look like I have Berber carpet (sp?) growing out of my head. :-)
@spiritwyze LMBO!!! Who are you telling! I used to tell some of my other "friends", it's easy for them to say b/c they don't have Kuta Kente roots!!! It's seemingly a curse, but it's a disguised blessing I think. You grow so much from within with our 4C(--D for me) I also follow the braid it down regimen because it's isn't anything cute if I don't, however, the few times I didn't, I typically only used my leave-in mix & it let that sit abt 5 min & I can finger detangle & style. Will post recipe.
Hey gurl! Have you ever tried to use Uncle Funky's daughter curly magic? Drench your hair in the shower and apply this product. I think you will be very happy! My hair is very course as well and I couldn't even see the curl pattern until I used this product! google UFD discount code and you'll find a code maybe for a few bucks off! Let me know if this works for you! You are beautiful!
Also, a tip for after application, shake your hair like a rocker in the shower to see the curl pattern!
Girl the look in your eyes is making me want to cry...cheer up girl, you'll get through this cycle. We all go through it. I just did the BC and I'm tryna figure my hair out too. Your hair looks great now btw. Much luv.
hmmm, well I have the same hair type as you, I think my hair grows relatively fast not as fast as others but fast enough....maybe try out some other products?
I'm a 4b/c. When my hair was short I thought it had no curl def. It seemed to grow slowly. But it did grow, my curls just get tighter. As it's gotten longer & I continue to experiment I do see definition but curls clump in smaller sections and are still tight. I no longer wear my 'fro daily to prevent tangling, decrease overhandling and aid growth. I wear twists & twist updos through the week and twist outs over the weekend. I'm a triathlete so my hair needs extra special care/maintenance.
i feel you when I reach the state you are now I just braid, cornrow them or whatever that can be a protective style. Forget them for a month and half or two. Then when i unbraid (is that correct? sorry English is not my 1st language) I just take pleasure seeing them. Don't be obsessed by their length, they grow slowly indeed but they grow!! The key is to moisturise and protect.
Look Sis, I don't know what my hair is, but I like it cause it is growing out of my head. Some days I struggle with it cause its kinda fine and it won't hold a fro at all, and forget about wearing bantu knots, they look like little anorexic pixy sticks on my head :-) But never the less, it has taken me almost 40 years to appreciate this stuff growing out my scalp. Do me a favor, every time you look in the mirror, sing that muppet, "I love my hair" song until you believe it, its worth it.

TRUST! I feel your struggles, and that is why I decided to start my own YouTube page for women of 4c and thicker hair. There is so much we can do with our hair, and I will show all my 4c girls that through tutorials and product reviews. I just launched my page, so feel free to check it out!
No hunny! Stay strong! I have 4c hair and I almost went crazy! Dont be upset your hair will grow! (: if you ever need someone to I'm here ok (: I used to cry about 4 c hair but then I learned how to tame it and work with it. Not its growing better then ever (: inbox me I really need a 4c buddy and you seem nice :D

the below post is my method. ive inspired many family members to go natural. my hair is not dry. its growing very fast. its moisturized. not breaking! for once and it falls. perfect braid outs. twists do not work well for my hair type. soft manaheble moveable hair. its possible. just listen to your hair. and eat plenty of protein...drink water.

1. twist hair and cleanse with creme of nature moisturizing shampoo. retwist. and u. untwist one and u with a deep treatment: palmers coconut formula protein treatment repeat with each twist.rinse. 2. undo one twist and spray with a mix of .25 olive oil and .75 water in a spray bottle 2. moisturize with a little of the mix of coconut oil ( 1tbsp) shea butter (2 tbsps) and castor oil (1 tsp) melted in the microwave.stir. 4. braid do not twist after applying eco styler argan oil gel.once a week.

personally I think you hair is very cute,...

Nothing EVER worked for me until i found those products.Take it from someone who used to snap combs in half by accident while combing through their hair...

hello, i felt your pain because i too am a 4c . my first bc was a year ago i got my hair to grow out really good with different natural hair products such as olive oils carrot oils anything natural i tried and it all worked to grow out my hair but then i went to a perm and now lets just say im starting all over but dont be discouraged i also kept my hair in different braid styles to help- grow it out as well as shampoo and condition once a week when not in braids

I started making some of my own leave in conditioners...using aloes( as in the raw natural aloes) oils and a bit of any conditioner u like.. it works for me,i also play with shea butter a bit. the only gel that works is eco sytler olive oil..sighxo

believe it or not a lot of type 2 & 3 women envy type 4 women. no our hair doesn't blow in the wind, but thats what the creamy crack is for. personally i don't need any hair in my face sticking to my lipgloss. our hair holds THE BEST braids, twists, braid outs, and twist outs. shrinkage is a blessing because we never have to worry about our hair brushing up against our clothes...its like a natural protective style. you can snazz any do up with a few accessories. our hair is absolutely gorgeous

I'm not 4c but I do feel your pain! I've tried so many products and my hair is so dry and stupid I had to flat iron it to stop the breakage!

Discouragement does happen with this hair type.

yankytank09 3 months ago

TXejas19 6 months ago

LOVEU!

I was considering going back to a relaxer. how is it the weakest. I don't understand
4thender 8 months ago
@4thender It's the weakest hair because it has tons of kinks in the strand. Kinks are weak points.
Jeau7 8 months ago
@4thender Naturally curly hair, whether it is type 3 or 4, is the most fragile hair because the hair has a tighter curl or "coil" pattern that makes it more difficult for the hair to retain moisture and easier to develop tangles which can lead to breakage. Curly hair requires a great deal of patience, lots of water (provides more pliability), moisturizing conditioners and one has to take time to detangle the hair without pulling at it, aggressively, if you want to grow healthy and long hair.

I keep that with me to 'refresh' throughout the day.

deep conditioning is the best thing.

Cont... just needs a lot more moisture, especially water!

I can understand your discouragement. When I was a kid, I asked God why he made my hair this way. Now, I'm proud of it. I've worn a relaxer for most of my life. Will post recipe.
