This guy is going to help the Giants a lot. He played in a pro-style defense at Iowa and while he won't be one of the starting safeties, he'll immediately help out on Special Teams (which have been atrocious for the Giants recently) and can be in on more blitzing sets on defense. He has great ball as well as leadership skills. I think he's going to be a fan favorite in New York.
its not even a question, you can argue who is a better safety, you can argue who will be a good safety in the NFL, but you cant argue stats, sash wins that by a mile.
as for who is a better safety, sash is a better coverage safety, mays is a better run stopper, there ya go, end of discussion. comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges. in a passing situation, ignoring which team i like more, i would take sash every time. you dont get lucky 11 times in 2 years, he earned those INTs
Taylor Mays is the most overrated db. It took him 4 years to get the same amount of interceptions Sash had his freshman season. Everyone rants and raves about Taylor's size and speed but he doesn't do anything with it, he has no football instincts. Tyler>Taylor
I can't believe how retarded you are sounding right now. I'm definite that Taylor Mays has some football instincts. I mean, he's only played what? 12 years, give or take. I'm sure along the line somewhere he gained football instincts. And buddy, why so much talk about interceptions? Tackling is equally important. MAYS had 88 tackles this year. SASH had 84. dwid1984, I beg of you to please do research before making yourself look like an uninformed mental defective.
do you understand what the word overrated means? it means being rated as being better than you actually are. He is supposed to be a first round pick but he doesn't perform like it.
Kyle McCarthy has 89 tackles, does that mean he is a top ten pick? Yes he has football instincts....but not much, he hits hard, is poor in pass coverage and is out of position quite often and takes poor angles, he just has the speed to catch up. So what if he make a big hit 30 yards down the field? is that being GREAT
So i guess all the interceptions Ed Reed and Darren Sharper have are thrown right at them, it looks like that to the casual fan. It appears he is just in the right spot at the right time. Its called reading the quarterbacks eyes, INSTINCTS, anticipating the routes, where the ball is going to go, these are the things that make a safety great. And you want to call me a mental defective?
Ok, you're getting off task here. The argument is about Taylor Mays. I could give a shit about interceptions... Taylor Mays is a two time 1st Team All American. He is clearly doing something right. Am I wrong with that assumption?
To quote you - "he hits hard, is poor in pass coverage and is out of position quite often and takes poor angles"... Are you telling me that Voters are wrong? Are you also telling me you're smarter than NFL Scouts who put him in the top 10 in the draft? I'm baffled.
"Are you telling me that Voters are wrong? Are you also telling me you're smarter than NFL Scouts who put him in the top 10 in the draft? I'm baffled. "
wow, do you actually think for yourself, or do you just read what some scout says and believe it regardless....people like you make for good Bush voters...
You make a seriously terrible argument, youre saying that mays is better because he has 4 tackles more on the season, but avoid the fact that Sash has 5 Ints and 3 Deflections more than mays on the season.
If you say stupid things like that, dont go arund telling other people they are idiots and need to research more.
Many people say Sash is simply lucky, but all he does is play his position well and stay home, so he is always where he should be, which gives him the opportunities to make plays.
if he is "just lucky" then ed reed is "just lucky" Darren Sharper is "just lucky" The scheme helps, but it takes a special player to take advantage of that scheme
I remember at a South Dakota Football camp one year, sash destroyed this one kid, and the hit made a huge crack on his helmet. Sash is a stud and will turn out to be a great DB
that INT @ :38 was sick, now that's coverage skills for ya

so 88 tackles 1 int 3 pass deflections is better than 84 tackles 6 interceptions and 6 pass deflections?
dwid1984 2 years ago
It's quite simple to intercept a pass when it is thrown right at you.
