I love the movie as it is and screw american re-makes! A movie shouldn't turn into a re-make just because lazy americans doesn't want to read subtitles!
I know it could be seen as quite sacrilegious but they should think about doing an American remake of this film at some point. Just so this brilliant story about survival doesn't get lost from western audiences.
@joffpaice101 On 23rd of March The Hunger Games will come out in theaters. It's an awesome story about twelve districts who fight for 3 days in a wide arena. You should watch it. The triology was awesome to read thought ^^
@joffpaice101 I doubt we will ever get a remake. It was a thought at first, but when the virginia tech shooting happened the idea went in production hell. Hunger games was able to be produced compared to the underlying difference in Battle Royale. The students killed the other students whom they knew while, in hunger games the kids are total strangers to each other and neither in the same school background.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS!!!! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG LIKE CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND WHEN I SAW THIS I WAS LIKE THANK JESUS AND BLESS THIS PERSON ;D
I like the pasted in photos. Kawada is standing straight, serious, a little leaning forward, representing the will and inner strength the character posseses. On the other hand is Kiriyama, with his head tilted, representing his crooked personality. He is also in contraposition to the rest of the class which hints his disregard for the world and other peoples lives.
Aw, I love this song, such a good end to such a good film. Very messed up film, but very good. Shows the brilliant talent of the writer and the director and all the actors and actresses! :D
Battle Royale captures the wonderfull feeling of 5th year or sicth year at school. I left in 2003 and i always get remidned of it when i watch teh movie. I left bout 6 moths early nd 2 me this film is all about high school. Because of this movie ill never forget what it felt liek 2 be in school and what it actually meant.
The second movie isn't completely horrible, to me what ruined the movie were some unnecesary scenes like the one where the teacher jumps with the ball before dying, that was just silly and completely pointless, I was watching with some friends and we simply laughed, we laughed with a lot of scenes and BR is not supposed to be a funny movie. Nonetheless it had some good moments, of course it can't be compared to the first one as the first one is a legendary movie and one of my all-time favs.
Hey, guess what, it was long time when I watched this movie with my mother. then mom had a dream that she's being killed by a knife then she woke up and sleep again and it's the same dream appeared. that's why she said she doesn't want to watch this movie again XD
@thatdude11ful Plus the second film's premise makes no fucking sense. Why would the government, who are so desperate to kill Nanahara, send out kids who have never fought before, and give them so many goddamn handicaps? Why give them no ammo during the landing, and why implement the stupid 'partner' rule which means that Nanahara's gang effectively only need to kill half the kids and they've won? Why not just send in the regular army if they need the job done? Stupid...
@videogamenostalgia That's because the daughter of Kitano sign in and the government thought they are all willing to join battle royale but it's kinda stupid. There's no training .. :|
Part 1 is better since it is based on a best-selling book. Part 2 was made because, imo, so that the movie studio can milk the success they had made with the first one.
If the original creator(the guy who wrote the book) was involved in the sequel,I think part 2 would had been a better film
the second movie wasnt THAT bad. had some good bloody scenes. Teenagers going to war, not such a bad idea. Plot was all over the place. but in the end its not that bad
this is a great film tho it was in Japanese and had to read subtitles it was still great i'd hate to see a English speaking remake because they are never as good
@Chaberrreee I knowww. I'd watched the film the day before I got the book, at when I first watched it, I was pretty much indifferent to his death, but when I read the book, and got to know his character better... I bawled. The Third Man FTW.
@emokidmercedes Aw~~ lucky to have the book… Did you already read the manga version of it? It’s more heart breaking… Shinji’s cool, awesome and genius! Poor Mimura… It’s all Kiriyama’s fault… -___- Hope he survived the game, though.
cant describe it but this song jus fits so well with the end credits of the movie with all the class portraits and all that stuff gives it a real thought provoking sentimental feeling, which is cool cos i personally think the film had a lot more to say in its meaning than some would think
Battle Royale squeezed all the fluid out of me. Well, come on! One cannot refuse to cry after the death of Sigimura. :(( Aww. He's so martyr to end his life because of love, but I think its heroic, still. Oh, I just LOVE Sigimura. And Kiriyama. and Kawada. And Shuya! <3<3<3
i love this film and this song i remember this came on tv when i was a kid and i taped it on a vhs (yeah thats how long ago it was lol) and i kept rewinding the credits to listin to this song
I distinctly remember being blown away by the film when I first saw it. I've watched it several times since(this was years ago), and while none of them can quite match that first viewing, this is easily one of my favorite films.
The novel was even better. I'd recommend reading it before seeing the movie..
The end credits for BR were when I first heard this track. So much greatness in one film, it's almost unheard of.
Hey everyone hating on the second film, cut the director, Kenta Fukasaku, some slack. His father who directed the first one, Kinji Fukasaku, died early in filming. Kenta was really distraught (translation: an emotinoal wreck, carrying his father's ashes in an urn on set) and tried to salvage the film as best he could. It has some great moments, and anything with Riki Takeuchi in it deserves RESPECT.
@DaigojiGai I haven't bothered seeing the second film, because I have heard that it didn't deserved to be watched. So thank you for giving me a reason to watch it.
@DaigojiGai to be fair i havent seen #2. but i think the reason most ppl dislike #2 is because the first one ended perfectly. it would be like making a sequel to fight club, or the Matrix (oh god that really happened). i dont care if kinji's ghost teamed up with scorsese and miyazaki to make a sequel. it would probably still suck. the best endings r the 1s that leave the main charecters with lessons learned and a shot at happiness which is was battle royale did. ur imagination has 2 do the rest
Nah, this won't ever be a reality. I loved the movie though, great story, great characters, fun. The manga was a lot better, if you haven't read it yet, read it now! It the same in the main plot theme, but completely different events happen. Most events in the movie did not happen in the book.
@pwnwner To your point, you're right, but surely you realize Battle Royale was originally a novel (now avail In english) that served as the basis for the movie and manga? Far superior to the manga.
Thinking about what the world we live in is starting to become, we will probably have a reality tv-show like this in about twenty years time. Loved the movie though, I dont think I will see anything like this again on the big screen. Truly a f..... masterpiece.
I randomly watched this movie online one night because I couldn't sleep. It's in my top three movies now, something I did not expect at all. This movie left me with so much good will and so much more appreciation for Japanese culture because they are willing to take the risks we won't. Something like this would have never been possible in America, so glad I discovered it. Incredible.
I have to say that the movie was amazing really! Very nice and I love how the movie was so personal with the director considering what he had to go through himself.
When I heard this song at the end...it made me so sad yet calm considering what happened to a class filled with close friends (besides Mitsuko unfortunately) - showing how trust is such a sensitive issue.
I need to watch this movie again, with a close friend though because this is definitely one of those movies. Beautiful!
Although this song makes me sad and reminds me of so many negative things like uachived goals etc. i still like it. It is a beautiful song and well written at that. Wierd how feelings opposing each other can entwine like this
I always thought it would be appropriate, during the end credits of the movie, to have an animation over the class picture that shows an 'X' go across each student who died in the order of their demise, including the teacher, and circle the two who survived.
The director who directed the first BR passed away after just filming one scene (where Kitano appeared in Shiori room) and his son took over the project. I believe if the original director finished his work the 2nd movie would've been much better. Too bad.. I'd really like to see more BR from him :(
@skyVirus9 Yeah the 2nd one didnt even make sence in terms of plot, just seemed like they didnt know how to save the franchise so they just pulled it out of there asses ah well this film is still one of my favourites.
@BenjaminEllett after reading the book i had a greater appreciation for the second movie, even though its not linked at all i think it gives greater incite into why shuya did all that
@anatsusha09 In all honesty, the Japanese drawing just annoyed me with the manga. Yes I know duh manga is meant to be like that, but come on, there was a 14 year old who looked way past 30 and thus was a whore, and when buckshot hit someone's face I was like 'Wut' because in all honesty the way they drew that was quite bad lol
@skyVirus9 Shuya grew some masive balls in the second, I mean come on he beats down a wall too shoot some one not to mention that that creepy girl if the first movie the one at the beginning with the bear shes back.... AND THAT BEAR IS A MOTHER FUCKING BOMB!
@Jaezhil78 The first one is based on the book. That's where the story is, the secound is just put to gether, to make a number two because of the first one was such a hit.
Assuming I can get stuff by them in the UK, I'm definitely gonna buy an album of theirs... song goes perfectly with the end of the film. Always leave the credits on after Battle Royale just for it!
i dont understand japanese.. but i just saw this movie today :) i knew about it for like 6 month and i didnt saw it 0_0 shame on me.. but i like the movie and this song is just relaxing me.. kinda make me think about anime xD
I thought i was listening to the SIMS version but now i see its quite lovely.

Battle royale was amazing, but the 2nd one was very disapointing.

@BenjaminEllett after reading the book i had a greater appreciation for the second movie, even though its not linked at all i think it gives greater incite into why shuya did all that

manga > book > film !
startingsprinter 1 year ago
@startingsprinter The manga was shit, but I've heard the book was good. The film was definitely better than the manga by a long shot.

@DVSPython Ill disagree with u on that.......I thought manga was alot better
anatsusha09 1 year ago 2
@anatsusha09 In all honesty, the Japanese drawing just annoyed me with the manga. Yes I know duh manga is meant to be like that, but come on, there was a 14 year old who looked way past 30 and thus was a whore, and when buckshot hit someone's face I was like 'Wut' because in all honesty the way they drew that was quite bad lol
DVSPython 1 year ago
@anatsusha09 agreed, it feels more real... even the colar in the movie looks like a toy or something, and it lacks gore
miakadori 1 year ago
@DVSPython Must admit, I haven't checked out the manga but the book is really good.

LordAKiraAndou 1 year ago
@skyVirus9 Disagree. The first one was great, because of the concept. The second one...had a real story.
Jaezhil78 8 months ago
@Jaezhil78 The first one is based on the book. That's where the story is, the secound is just put to gether, to make a number two because of the first one was such a hit.

Assuming I can get stuff by them in the UK, I'm definitely gonna buy an album of theirs... song goes perfectly with the end of the film. Always leave the credits on after Battle Royale just for it!
