I am a big fan of Ford (I love Han Solo and Indiana Jones, including Crystal Skull), and I do think he does a really good job here and in CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. But to be honest I would have liked to have seen how Baldwin (The portrayer of Ryan in RED OCTOBER) take a shot at the other films. Harrison has always come off to me more as a straightforward tough/rugged action hero. Baldwin came off more to me as the CIA analyst type. Just my thoughts.

Great, tense and thrilling Thriller/Action movie. I liked Harrison Ford's acting very much but Sean Bean made this film - he was just brilliant!!! The whole cast did a decent job. I miss the 90's

The novel and movie are not realistic.
There is no mention of loyalist paramilitary groups like the UVF or UDA who terrorised Irish Catholic nationalists in Northern Ireland at the same time that the Provisional IRA were attacking the British Army and the RUC and launching bomb attacks against Britain.
It is very unlikely that Irish republicans would launched an attack on a British politician or against American citizens on US soil.
Their war was with the British government not America.

Its also intresting to note (that that I support of defend them in any way as they are just as bad) that groups like the UVF did not turn up untill the late 50s/60s while the Republican movement have been blowing people up in England since the 1800s.

I think Sean Bean is a good actor, well suited to tough/ bad guy roles, he should be in more films, now that he`s older he would cast well as a mercenary and I prefer him to Jason Stratham, who does not have such a range

I'm not denying the Black and Tans commited some heinous crimes, but the IRA also commited some terrible crimes in years to come, both sides have that's the nature of war, it brings out the worst in people. Ireland got its freedom in the 1920s, every part voted if it wanted to stay British or be Irish, 6 counties in Ulster voted VOTED to be British and since then the IRA, PIRA, CIRA etc have been blowing up women and children and WWII survivors on remembrance day.

Catholics were living in terror in belfast in 1940s. One attack shocked the world in particular. Boxing Day 1948 at the annual Linfield- Belfast Celtic game at Windsor Park. Celtic were winning for most of the match but Linfield equalised in the last minute. Linfield fans invaded the pitch and attacked several Celtic players including centre-forward Jimmy Jones who suffered a broken leg. A chief Belfast death squad leader was Inspector John Nixon. The Stormont government eventually tried to dismiss him, but backed off when he threatened to publicly name senior police and unionist politicians who had helped in the murder gangs.
Nixon was elected five times to Britain's Parliament and he was awarded an MBE by King George in 1923 for his "valuable service during the troubled period''.
