you know for somereason ttn has been a pin for me until i watched this and the way you explained it made it a hell of a lot easier and i got it within a min and a half! thx for the help!
I've noticed that! I've only been spinning for about a month, it's like I'm just trying too hard when I learn a new move! But then all of a sudden it clicks and I'm like ohhh I was just over-thinking it! lol
most glowstringing patterns require insight as opposed to practice, however, base skills in poi have to be done a long time for the body to master them
@lauradlane I find that thinking about it too much causes problems, but going with the flow is far easier. Like when I'm learning moves, if I think too hard, I just end up tangling and hitting my testicles. Not good.
it's brilliant. i've been attempting for 2 months and recently started to use nick's clips. i'm loving it. doesn't come quickly as im finding but stay with it.
You have to be the best poi teacher on the web, every time i've watched on of your videos i've learned the trick within 2-3 watchings, of course i haven't moved onto anything like the 5 beat atomic but still really good videos
wow amaizing pals, Im really interested to practice these diciplin because Im a little bit dislexic, some parts of my brain it doesn´t work in a good way, so Im wondering where can I get one of those pois but the kind fluorecent. I live in Mexico and I wish to learn this rigth away. Can anybody tell me how can Iget the ligthing poi? ór maybe the same in the video. Thanks
You can make them out of knee socks and a tennis ball. I'm fresh on learning, too, but not quite dyslexic. I have a hard time telling left and right, but that's hardly necessary in coordination movements.
Exaggerating the movement of your hands can help to make this trick more interesting (i.e. let your hand come all the way to the opposite arm's shoulder before punching it forward). Leaning slightly backwards and performing a thread the needle above your head is also an interesting variation.
I really like how you do the smaller parts of the move for long enough for me to get into the rhytm, a lot of people rush on to the next part which is frustration
cant get into ur website m8, ? u have a mirror site>? i wanna see the other vids.. threre is skipped ones like 3 and 4 then randomly skips to 31? ?? thanks alot dude
your lessons are great. Very well to understand, very clear with a good feeling for beginners! A lot of people can play poi, but good teachers are seldom.Compliments to you.
I've been trying to learn the reverse for two years, and I think my problem is that I've been trying to do it with inwards instead of outwards butterfly... D'oh! Shall have to give it a try again this evening. Thanks for the lesson. :D
Oh my gosh, I want to kiss you. After weeks and weeks of trying this move of having multiple people and videos try to teach it to me, I did it within FIVE MINUTES of watching your video! Ahhhh! I'm converting to NickCannism forevermore.
thanks so much for this video! after about three weeks of trying this bloody trick and almost throwing my poi out of window i can do it! I love your teaching style so keep posting more videos :) xx jenni
i can do the reverse of this but not forwords lol i dont know y but i can do it when i do five beat weave so ya you are right i dos help in opening other moves still working on the atomic five beat hope i can do it in time for spring :)
Of course this is a martial art. The Maori culture didn't invent this for highly skilled displays to amuse the tousists. Think 梢子棍, shōshikon, "Boatman's staff", nunchucks.
Poi or 'Poi Poi' has its origins in New Zealands Maori culture and is used today mainly through female ceremonial dance although the men use these highly skilled displays occassionally, I believe too it was used as a form of martial art by Maori.
Traditional poi is awesome. Modern deviation form the tradional with fire/glow poi is also awesome! its not dum, he's just demonstrating one small move, you should go look up other poi vids to check out the amazing stuff they get up to
do you have any idea of where can i get a poi??...cause i guess thats the first thing i need in order to begin with the lessons haha

That's so true. You just keep trying and eventually it just clicks. Its kinda like that with all poi moves, but this one especially.

Wait a minute, isn't poi a hawaiian food staple? I'm from Hawaii, is that a different type of poi? Just curious.

Ya it just happens to be called the same thing. In US I tend to call it spinning.

So, this is under the promoted videos, but my dance videos aren't? I would think there is a lot more to liquid dancing than the is to Poi.
