@blackhorse099 Calling a person who is homosexual a "waste" is an ignorant thing to say. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you through comments.
@hopelesslydevoted16 I never said HE was a waste because he was a homosexual. The fact that he was a homosexual was a big waste. His sexuality is a waste, not every aspect of himself as a person.
@hopelesslydevoted16 In MY opinion, it was a waste. Have fun having your opinion, don't try to force it on me. I commented my opinion and you replied. I didn't reply to your comment telling you what to think. Don't do it to me.
i read that at the time of his death, sal was planning to do a film about sirhan sirhan. the film was going to suggest that rfk's assassination was a conspiracy involving the cia. when sal was killed, so were plans for the film.
Supporting roles mostly, but sometimes did some lead roles like Dino, The Young Don't Cry, Who Killed Teddy Bear, and The Gene Krupa Story. Those are things he did when he was a leading character.
I'm reading the Biography now it's great! His parents kind of screwed up his career and spent all of his money. Was trying to make a comeback when he was senselessly killed by a psycho career criminal
He was a handsome boy. His acting in Rebel without a Cause was so totally believable. There ought to be a law against the way he looked at James Dean in that movie. LOL. Absolutely superb
At least, he is at peace with his family and James Dean. When he grew older, Hollywood didn't want him. Very sad, but it just teaches the values as to how Hollywood perceives a person to immortal and young. But if this was 1957, he didn't look 18 here. More like 16 year or younger. Both Ralph and Sal had the same youthful genetics that they were blessed with. Shame we couldn't see how Sal would have looked today, but even through the end of his life, he still like he could pass for 20 or 25.
If there was a movie or a Broadway play, who would play him? You need to find a good look-alike if there is one. His whole life was like a play and ended like a tragedy.
I would rather have him as governor of New York over Coumo and Paladino any day...at least, he is a real person and not a control mongrel like those two. At least Sal came from the Bronx, you know.
I wished he stayed in New York and not L.A.. If he did stay in New York, he would not have been murdered at all. What happened to him was messed up. :(
@itkapatanka well the first time, when he was being asked about whether or not he was born in the US, Sal hesitates and says "Bronx" to John. I guess to some that could be considered a foreign country....haha
@kcatleticos I am preety sure everyone knew about Sal. he was quite wild in his party life. all the female stars certainly got wind of his life and most of the male stars knew who was queer or not,... the studios certainly did ..as well as the gossip reporters
@kcatleticos one or two female "Trysts" especially to cover up for other events; does not a bisexual make. . many men from that era including Rock Hudson worked both sides of the tracts because that is what they were supposed to do, few men back then were totally exclusive all male only.
Sad that he died so young. I don't think that they ever caught the person or person's responsible which makes it even more tragic. He was such a talented actor and just starting to come into success when he died.
No, Sal Was Mugged And killed Outside His Apatment.......by some someone and It Wasn't His Boyfriend , Thta's Been a Rumour floating around for many Years
He was so cute and sweet looking, it' s so sad he left this life so young. It's true he looks a lot like Ralph Macchio. Both are good actors. Rest in Peace Sal.
@calalilygirl Yes he did, THE GENE .......STORY. I cant remenber the last name, this guy who played the drums and had his own band, real big in the 1930 / 40s. Sal played him in the movie, he was the leading man in that one
Your observation about Sal resembling Ralph Macchio is spot on. Also, interesting to see comedian Ernie Kovacs on the panel. Like James Dean, Kovacs died in a car crash.
I loved Sal Mineo in "Rebel Without A Cause." He was excellent, and so was Natalie Wood and James Dean! It was so sad that they all died tragiclly and young. Rest in Peace!!!
The funny line was "He always gets the the girl IN THE END"!! which made for a lot of nervous laughter from everyone there in those very prudish times. Very funny......
I read some people don't know who Sal Mineo is. He was probably most famous for his role opposite James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause". He died very young, murdered, so a lot of younger people today don't know him.
Maybe, but given the tenor of the times, the laughter over the line, "always gets the girl" was more over the fact that no one would ever think he couldn't attract a girl with those good looks, thus the laughter. He was gay, but people at the time, especially the audience, was unaware of this, and he was known more as a heart throb for young girls.
No he wasn't gay here. He dated lots of woman during his young carrier, and was very serious with his co star from the movie "Dino" (I forgot her name.) It wasn't till the early 70's i believe, when he realized he was more fond men than woman. He's really young and innocent here. I always liked Sal
OH i forgot about that.....he plays the drums.....he was in the "Gene Krupa story". For those of you that don't know much about big bands....Gene Krupa was a famous drummer back in the day.
GSN rebroadcast this 1957 episode on 11 Nov 2008. It featured an amusing, educational game with a pretty female bullfighter and a short game with an expectant parents class teacher.
Sal Mineo in his early luscious period. Here he is not quite as young as mystery guest Brandon deWilde (who appeared in 1954 age 11), but he is younger than mystery guest Rick Nelson (August 1959 age 19).
Most people don't realize that Sal Mineo was a GREAT drummer. Many critics consider his best performance was as Gene Krupa in "The Gene Krupa Story". Although Krupa recorded the soundtrack it looks like Sal is the real player. Very talented.

Summer 1957 -- Ernie Kovacs appears on WML a dozen times auditioning as the 4th permanent panelist. This is his first appearance in that engagement.
No wonder Goodson-Todman showed interest in Kovacs: "I didn't hear the answer to my quadruped question." "Madame Schumann Heink?" LOLOL
