  • i still can't put it in download mode

  • i couldn't do it :/ but all your other videos worked out great :D

thank you for getting me this far...

Hopefully you can make a video how to put the ics stuff into the phone ;o

  • @Cripdog69 I am still working on those videos. Thanks for watching!

  • Hi Buddy!..I followed the procedure it is working perfect. However I made a stupid mistake..I installed the AT&T package....But I am a Rogers user(Canada)..do you know how can i modify this?..

Another question..I tried to activate In-front camera but it didnt work...If this infront camera fully activated with gingerbread frimware?

    thanks..for your help!

    Peace!

  • @TheBenllo26 I don't know how to modify the AT&T loading screen. If there are network issues then you should be able to edit the settings but you will have to contact Rogers to find out what the settings need to be. The captivate we have here in the states do not have a front facing camera, even though you can see holes on the front of the phone. They took it out. The original Galaxy S i9000 phone did have a camera and that is where all of out phones are derived from. Thanks for watching!

  • worked perfectly, thanx!!!!

  • @SPLINTERHELL1 Thanks for watching!

  • when i hit PIT nothing comes up?

  • @keithdavis18 Did you navigate to the folder the pit file is in?

  • @johnnythegeek1 is that in the odin program i downloaded

  • @johnnythegeek1 yes it should be.

  • Official gingerbread is out for captivate

  • @boltzfn For some reason I can't get the notification. I want to go back to Froyo and then update to the official one to see how it is. The unofficial kind of lags.

  • I figured it out! Thank you!!!!

  • I figured it out! Thank you!!!!

  • Nope. but odin wont recognize it

  • @OhhKlyn did you install the drivers?

  • Comment removed

  • 7 zip

  • @OhhKlyn are you getting errors when unzipping?

  • Ive been trying to do this forever. i extract the files from the zip folder and nothing happens.

  • @OhhKlyn What zip program are you using?

  • johnny, if its not too much to ask, can you make a video showing what the OS looks like after updating to gingerbread?like a review or something? it'd really be great. Thanks!

  • @gonadsdonads Thanks for the suggestion. I think that would be great.

  • The only one i extracted was odin v1.81.zip file was there any other one that i had to do?

  • also when i plug it in the yellow bar doesnt pop up

  • When i hit pit nothing happens it doesnt recognize it please help thanks

  • @KevinVilla08 Did you unzip all of the files?

  • and oh i have 3 files that says DiskCache do i need to delete them 1st? thanx much!! ^_^

  • DUDE!! iv'e been doing som resrch on hw to update my phone and so far urs is THE most easiest way to do these kinda things. i just wanna know whats your opinion based on my phones spec if its okay to update my phone. my firmware version is 2.2 the baseband says I897UCJI6, the kernel is 2.6.32.9 and the build nmbr is froyo.ucji6.ive downloaded all the files except for the 7zip file you mentioned but i have winRAR is that okay? and my .net framework is 3.5...other than that everythng else is ready

  • @gonadsdonads This is a Captivate on AT&T right? If it is then yes, this should work just fine. You should however look up on the xda developers site to see if there are any articles or stories with your specs. Just go to their website and type in your specs and see what comes up. Good luck and have fun.

  • @johnnythegeek1 yup it's on AT&T..Thanks! ^_^

  • @gonadsdonads johnny about the diskcache files, do i still have to delete them first? ^_^

  • Will this work on the Samsung infuse also?

  • @jonjames94 No it will not. So don't try it. Thanks for watching!

  • hi, I have a question, I'm using this phone in Costa Rica and i guess is unlocked because we don't have AT&T here, so, if i do this will the phone be locked in my country? is there another step i must follow to unlock it? sorry I'm pretty new on android devices, i used to have an iPhone so is very different.

  • @davica29 Once it is unlocked from AT&T you can use it on almost any GSM network. If there is a place where it does not work it would be because that network is not compatible with the phone. So to answer your question, it is not locked to costa rica or any other country. Thanks for watching!

  • @johnnythegeek1 thank u, I already updated my phone to the 2.3.5 version and it works just fine! thanks for the help!

  • Buddy you are a life saver. Your update solved all my problems that I was facing earlier after performing a hard reset of my phone. Thanks a whole bunch man.

  • @sreaper100 Thanks for watching!

  • What is the difference from 2.2 to 2.3? What functions do I get by updating this?

    Thanks

  • @ncdavid2001 2.2 is a very stable and fast. A considerable number of new features were introduced in 2.3. New UI themes, redesigned keyboards, new copy and paste functionality, improved power management, better application management, new download manager, support for VoIP calls,NFC, new Camera application for accessing multiple cameras and supports extra large screens. The last 3 does not apply to the Captivate though. Thanks for watching!

  • Dude u said it would delete everything but i was on 2.2 rooted and it did not delete anything except for the apps....strange....also thanks for the video it worked GREAT!

  • @alecein It is hard to say sometimes what it deletes and what it doesn't I did not want to say "yeah don't worry, all you data is safe" and then stuff gets deleted then that will be really bad. You should always backup stuff when doing these type of things to your phone. Thanks for watching!

  • I bought an unlocked AT&T Captivate via Amazon.com. At first it worked fine but after doing a master reset, I can no longer add my Google account or access the market. My question to you is, will my phone be locked again if I perform this upgrade? And also will I be able to add my Google account and access the android market after performing this update? I currently have Froyo 2-2 installed in my phone.

  • @sreaper100 From my own experience it will remain unlocked no matter what firmware or ROM you put on it. If you look at all my Captivate videos you will see that I have done a lot and the phone is still unlocked. I use to think that it would be locked and I just had to unlock it again but I can't even do that because it is already unlocked. So basically once it is unlocked it is always unlocked. I don't know how to lock it again. Thanks for watching!

  • Have a quick question. Why is it necessary to have the micro SD card inserted while doing the upgrade?

  • @WaikikiNico I can't remember where I read if you need to or not. It has been a while and so many roots and updates I have done I forgot what's what. lol. You can try it without and let me know if it worked. I don't think anything would get messed up. If it doesn't work then it would just not move on to the next steps.

  • @johnnythegeek1 Well I am asking because when I just attempted to upgrade to GB via your methods and exact steps, the phone decides to reboot (showing the AT&T World Phone and Samsung Splash screen) while the phone is running its media and external SD scans. Curious if this is being caused by not having an SD card or the fact that Re-partition should be checked while in Odin.

  • @johnnythegeek if you update your captivate to 2.3.3. Will you lose all the pictures and videos on the internal memory ?

  • @matttheman569 Yes. Backup all your stuff!!!!

  • um.... well i think im screwed officially.... my phones rogers and i did exactly what you did in the video (ignore my last message to you) and it worked perfectly... but one thing.. now my phone thinks is at&t

  • @MrPotcher Check with your provider on changing the network settings. Are you having trouble connecting to 3G or cellular service?

  • a zip folder in a zip folder?..... zipception. sigh old jokes always get old..

  • @MrPotcher lol. Thanks for sharing anyways. I thought it was funny!

  • Great instructions, update works great. Thanks!

  • @druidiamac Thanks for watching!

  • ahh. i tried and odin didn't recognize my captivate and it was in download mode in everything. Then the phone dropped and the battery fell out. From then I though i was f'ed but thank god 2.2 was still on there and it ran. I think I wait awhile and get more comfortable before I do this again.

  • If I sent you my phone would you update it for me?

  • @johnnythegeek1

when i downloaded the file and opened it it would say to open it with a different program what do i do i tried everything it wont open do i use a soft ware to open it or something help me plz

  • @iiTzyourdaddy yes. a program called 7-zip

  • I was kinda nervous at trying this at first but it worked perfect! thanks alot man much thanks!!!

  • @AightKool23 Thanks for watching!

  • After I plugged my device in, it didnt show the highlited thing.. HELP!

  • @XxXxLiQUiDxXxX Did you start the app first before plugging it in? Is it plugged into the usb port directly on the back of the computer? Are the drivers installed? is the phone set to USB debugging mode?

  • I downloaded the zip file last night as well, guess I missed a step... I'll see what happens! Thanks for the prompt response! Keep up the GREAT work on the upgrades, hacks and tips!

  • @chlittle1 Thanks for watching!

  • @johnnythegeek1 bro i'm a real noob about this thing can you give me a link on where to download galaxy drivers?i would really appreciate it thanks man great vid!

  • @akirevilla28 I added the links to the description now. Make sure you download the right version. Thanks for watching!

  • @johnnythegeek1

appreciate it!!will try it soon!!thanks again!

  • @johnnythegeek1

I almost bricked my phone last night because when I downloaded the file from the link you posted, it was a .rar file instead of a zip file. I had to reload the original OS, then reload 2.2 to get it back to where it originally was. How do I get to the zip file with all the files you show, such as the pit, pda and csc, etc.? I DON'T want to have to go thru the same nightmare again. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

  • @chlittle1 I think I mentioned to use 7zip to unpack it. Use 7zip. It's a free program.

  • Thank you!!

  • @guitah Thanks for watching!

  • hey, when you press to find the files on PIT,PDA,ect. it finds one file. my computer finds a whole bunch of files and i can't find the specific one you have. anyway to find it?

  • @johnnythegeek1 so i am new to your videos and i am not that good with androids so i just wanted to know that if i have my phone rooted with superuser i will be able to update it right? if i do it then will it take out the root or not?

  • @007bluenitro Yes you will be able to update and updating will require you to root again. However, the same rooting method may not work for the new update so after updating, read up on rooting for that particular version you updated to. For example, today you update this to 2.3.3 and root it like how I show you in another video, tomorrow you update to 2.3.4, you will have to use another rooting method that is made for 2.3.4.

  • if my phone comes with android 2.2.. i can just do this to update it, i won't need anything else?

  • @forsberg232 I don't know for sure if you need anything else. I don't know what it is that you have already. If your computer is somewhat identical to mine then it should work fine. Windows 7 64bit with the proper drivers for the captivate and the files provided in the link. I would suggests also reading up on the instructions I followed. All of this is provided in the description. Good luck and have fun! Thanks for watching!

  • Hey wassup bro. I got my phone back working...followed your steps again...and came up victorious...sweet! I think what I did wrong before was that I didn't root my phone before doing the steps. Either way, I got it up and working. I do have one question though: If I installed Cyanogenmod 7 onto my phone, could I install another custom ROM over it or do I have to go back to stock first? (Don't think I will though since C7 is pretty nice)

  • @marqj30 Sweet! Thanks for watching!

  • Do you lose all your data?

  • @midjensky89 YES!

  • Im going to attempt to do this i have froyo 2.2 and i have a samsumg captive phone an At7T is my phone provider

if i follow ur video down to a T will i encounter any problems ?

  • @numberonebeast There is always a risk of bricking your phone. This has worked for me and I have done things that bricked my phone but have been able to get out of it. So it is up to you if you want to take that risk. Good luck and have fun.

  • @johnnythegeek1 I always forget to ask everytime I have to reset.

This is a STOCK kernel, right?

  • @SudoTakyo It is sort of a stock AT&T Captivate kernal since it is not officially been released by AT&T. there still might be some bugs but it seems to work good for most people. I suggest you do your research. Thanks for watching!

  • @johnnythegeek1 Yeah, I went lookin through last night, and it's a full stock, lol. I got bricked on an MIUI ROM so I had to flash to stock.

  • i did it and its still the same :( should i flash the rom again or try a different rom

  • So are we going to make this happen lol.

  • i did it and it works fine but now my phone keep restarting and acting up so what should i do plz

  • @jayhozan You should go into recovery mode and wipe cache and user data. It will delete everything but it will clean it all out.

  • Thank you :)

  • @JLLepore Thanks for watching!

  • are you serious?

  • @Jeremy123845 yes.

  • @johnnythegeek1 okks sounds like a plan to me then.

  • @johnnythegeek1 you should updatemy phone for me lol.

  • @Jeremy123845 Send me your phone and $25 plus shipping costs and I can do it.

  • thanks! i've done my homework on the whole jig thing and forcing it into download mode, i was thinking about sending it to verizon (i recently contacted them) and getting a new one all they check is i it turns on, damage to the phone, and the box it comes in...only problem is when i turn it on its an at&t bootloop but thanks for the help, ill definately subscribed.

  • yea i followed this video to a T and now my verizon samsung fascinate gets an at&t bootloop and will go into download mode or recovery no matter what button combination i do, ive tried taking the battery and sd card out and all that good stuff and nothing happens? im stuck, any suggestions?

  • @TheOnlyGodIsFear You will need a jig to get into download mode. I have a video about the jig and unbricking the fascinate.

  • does this tutorial work for the samsung fascinate as well?? just making sure before i do this. I downloaded the attached zip from the description & it came up with two folders with 2 different odins, the odin 1.81 that you used & the odin GT-19000.

  • @TheOnlyGodIsFear I'm not sure about the fascinate but you should look it up first. I don't know why the download file changed. I am not the one hosting or uploaded the file. I will try to find the original and upload it myself.

  • my odin says "GT-I9000"

  • @DopeBone777 I'm not sure why that is. I would say not to try anything yet. I got the same link from addictive tips so they are the one that uploaded the file. I will put the link into the instructions with the original links in the description.

  • why did mine come with a different odin??

  • @DopeBone777 I don't know. What version did you get and what version was suppose to come with it? Did you use the link in the description?

  • @johnnythegeek1 ya i downloaded the one in your description.

  • @johnnythegeek1 no prob.

  • hey do u know how to install 2.3.5 yet?? If u do, can u plz make a vid??

  • @marqj30 @johnnythegeek1 he doesn't have to get a big same thing happens to me but try getting into download mode by pulling out the battery and plug in your usb charger in computer and then hold the volume down button for 3seconds and plug in your phone while still holding the volume down button. The worked for me.. so I hope it works for you

  • @AndroidRulez559 Thanks for the reminder!

  • @AndroidRulez559 DId you put the battery back in before plugging the phone to the computer via usb? I'm still getting nothing. It's not a big deal though because I already ordered a jig so I'll see if I can get it back up and working within a couple of days. Thanks for the help though.

  • Hey what's bro. Do I need to root my phone first before doing all of this?

  • @marqj30 No you do not have to root but this will wipe everything. All of your data and apps. So if you had your phone rooted before, that will be gone too and would have to root it again.

  • @johnnythegeek1 Thanks for responding. I thought I didn't have to. However, it really doesn't matter now lol... last night I followed every step in your video, but my phone completely bricked. I don't know what I did wrong, but I put all blame on myself. Thanks anyway bro. By the way, it won't power up whatsoever, but when I'm pressing the power button, I can feel the phone heating up after letting it sit for a while. Is there any way to revive it?

  • @johnnythegeek1 What version did you have before going to 2.3? You would have to get it into download mode using a jig. Then you have to flash it back to a stock firmware.

  • @johnnythegeek1 It was version 2.2. I saw your other video of another Android phone where you were using the jig. I'm going to see if I can get a jig and try your method.

  • WORKED JUST FINE! You're the BEST! Liked, and subscribed... since we have the same phone and you're very helpful. Thanks a lot! :)

  • @iDayVin Thanks for watching and subscribing!

  • Yo bro, its safe to go to 2.3.3 from 2.2 right? can you get right back to me asap?

  • @7ViggerHater It was safe for me. However, I can not say that it safe under the many different conditions. For example, the version of operating systems, drivers for your phone, usb controllers, whether or not you have connected the phone in the various modes, like usb debugging, usb mass storage, and so many other variables. This has worked for me and many others but it has also not worked for some but I don't know how or why it did not.

  • I think its a soft brick, so can youchelp me. Now I cant root my phone, and I need to get it into download mode sonehow, and flash my phone to stock. Will the usb jig method work? What do you recommend? Please help!!!

    0.o

  • It's just that after I downgraded my phone, upgraded it to 2.2, and after I rooted my phone, it starts acting wierd. It does turn on and all, but now I cant do 2 things; I cant put my phone into download mode by pressing the two volume keys (it worked last time, but now my phone is messed up). My computer doesnt recognize my phone because its probably after I incorrectly rooted my phone using superoneclick. And when I plug in my phone to an AC outlet, it strangely says "USB connected"

  • I was just wondering, after updating to 2.3, there still are files and folders from previous version installation. what should i do to remove everything completely

  • @qwertyqart if you enter into recovery mode (take out battery, put back in, volume up + power button) select the option to wipe cache partition and user data. WARNING: This will delete everything! I mean all of the setting and user information. It is a complete wipe!

  • u're my personal Jesus Christ!!! U saved me man, thnks so much :D

  • @qwertyqart Thanks for watching and feel free to subscribe!

  • My phone has a HUGE problem. When I connect my phone via usb, it pops up a window that it has problems!!!! Is it bricked, or what?

  • @Rspsproductions100 does the phone turn on? if the phone is working then I do not believe it is bricked. You could try uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them.

  • Great. My phone is soo slow and i did everything right. O well, Im downgrading 100%

  • @Rspsproductions100 I'm sorry to hear that. I am looking for a way to apply something called the "Lag Fix" when I do or if someone directs me to a fix then I will post another video. Thanks for watching!

  • @johnnythegeek1 Have you Rooted This Firmware?

Been using this from your video for a month or so, and It's been great. Just wanna root.

  • @SudoTakyo I just added a annotation at the beginning of the video now. It links to how to root this firmware 2.3.3 Thanks for watching!

  • @johnnythegeek1 Thanks dude! Worked great. Gonna attempt to get lag fix now.

  • @SudoTakyo Hey I just upload a new video on how to Update, Root, and Lagfix the Samsung Captivate 2.3.4 Gingerbread

  • @Rspsproductions100 Hey I just upload a new video on how to Update, Root, and Lagfix the Samsung Captivate 2.3.4 Gingerbread

  • My phone is now 2 times slower and I cant root the 2.3.3 version somehow!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can I use superoneclick to root this version?

  • Does usb debugging has to be activated???

  • And another question....My phone is rooted now, and if I get gingerbread 2.3.4 will my phone automatically unroot? Will my apps and memory be erased? Is there a method that works for the gingerbread version?

  • Hey I have never ever tried to get my phone to download mode, but if I hold the vol up and down and the button at the same time as plugging it in, will it work?

  • does this work for every phone?

  • @8lovelovelove9 This method only works for the Samsung Captivate. Typically, if there is a leaked firmware version like 2.3 Gingerbread and so on for a specific phone, then there would be a method of getting it on that phone. There is also something called Custom ROM's and those can be the stock ROM your phone already has, for example 2.2 froyo and it is made to look like a newer ROM like 2.3 Gingerbread. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

  • Sure man :-) np just dont wanna have to download all my apps again lmao...but alright can u let me know if anything

  • Sorry its that i did titanium backup and i need root to restore my stuff back lol...

  • @SuperNakedTv ah dang. sorry. I should have mentioned that. thanks for letting me know. I will work on it this weekend and hopefully get a video up.

  • I been looking and i found the one on xda but i do not understand it i followed the directions but i cant find the file...? Can u take a look at it on google..

  • @SuperNakedTv Message me the link.

  • Will It Still Be Rooted Or Will I Need To Root Again ?

  • @SuperNakedTv It needs to be rooted again. I am trying to find the easiest way.

  • Do I need to uninstall keis software

  • @bashithabpc There is no need to uninstall the keis software.

  • THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, I WAS WORKING WITH THE SAME THINGS AS YOU AND ITS UPGRADED NOW!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN,

    Charles

  • @celjr299 Thanks for watching!

  • how do you get the PW for the zip?

  • @CamposLA323 it is in the description. Just copy and paste.

  • thanks so much. it really worked!

  • my phone dint turned on!!!

  • Hows the battery and speed?

  • @iphonemaster1111 It is pretty much the same. The only update that matters to me is the unknown sources option that allows me to install non-market apps.

  • @johnnythegeek1 is there a root so i can install the OCLF ( one click lag fix)
