  • @dkwintr708

Glad to hear it still works for you ;o)

  • It is my loss to have never heard the proper version of this song. Tonight..when my Celtic friends and I ring in the New Year, it will be with this melody. Thank you for this! Just beautiful!

  • @garymichael1950

glad to be of service and many thnx for your comments

  • Quite lovely, your version better elicits the bittersweet emotions Burn's intended to convey. thank you!

  • Beautiful.

  • @CTALibertyfan

    many thnx

  • For the last few years it has been my family's tradition to watch this video when we celebrate Burn's night. Great song, great rendition.

  • @itsmewillJ

good to hear! Thnx for the feedback ;o)

  • What part of Scotland do you hail from?

  • @helliersj

Fife.... just across the Forth from Edinburgh

  • This is great my friend! I want to download this and pay you. How can I do that? This is my favorite song and your version is great.

  • @helliersj

hi my friend and thnx for your interest. You can buy an audio copy of this on itunes or on CDBaby. search for Kev Thompson on either.

    Best wishes

    Kev

  • This is really wonderful.

  • @darelmass

    thanks, your comments are appreciated

  • While I must admit to preferring the full words to the usual tune, I have to say this video was beautifully done. Thank you for introducing me to the original tune in combination to Burns' words. Sing on, my fiere.

  • It's Syne, not Zyne

  • @Possilpark219

I certainly know that....so why are you making the comment here? I always say Syne

  • Have you looked into posting this to cdbaby.com?

  • @19jc80

no but I probably should. thnx for the feedback

  • @keltickev27 I know people that have used it and liked it. It would be great to be able to listen to this and pay you for your work. It's a great song. thanks for posting it.

  • @19jc80

thnx my friend.... I have followed up and added it to CDBaby today. Hopefully should be lie there very soon

    Kev

  • @keltickev27

Now live on Cd Baby - search for Kev Thompson or Burns250... thanks again for the push....

    Kev

  • I like it. Did the original version include bagpipes or was that an addition that came later? Just curious.

  • @SuicideIsPainlss666

bagpipes came much later ... a recent addition

  • i like it

  • me too!

    cheers buddy

  • So seldom because it does not appeal to most people. I aways laugh at people who are traditionalists for the sake of tradition or purists for the sake of being a purist. Have you ever considered that people can improve the original versions? Certainly. For that matter, I want to hear artists, not performers who parrots the originals.

  • @genmaicha3 "Most people" don't know it exists so how can you tell?

I am not purist for the sake of so being, I simply prefer the original far more than the over used and abused tune used today. I hardly think you can consider it "parrotting". However you are entitled to your opinion but don't judge me when you have a lack of information to do so.

  • @genmaicha3 We both have adequate information to make our own decisions. No song or music ever gets "over used and abused." There is no such thing as that rediculous remark for music. Music is not like a car tire that after 60,000 miles of uses it becomes unsafe to listen too. Your rediculous remark is just like saying that people loving the sun shining everyday is over used and abused today. Don't judge what others love.

  • @genmaicha3

You miss my point. The tune known by most and used today is fine, and has indeed taken the song to millions. It is the second most sung song in the word and I cannot fault it for that. However it IS often badly sung with words pronounced wrongly and usually only 2 verses given. This means that the listener fails to grasp the original meaning that Burns had in mind when he wrote the song. To that extent I still feel it is abused, and am entitled to feel that way.

  • have this song on my phone now listen to it all the time! you really are amazing kev!

  • @g1a9r8r9y

many thanks my friend....first time I made it to a phone I think!

  • @keltickev27 well now everyone knows who you are my friend you're my ringtone lol!

  • Kevin, this is marvellous... half o' my family hails fae southern Ayr, a few steps frae Alloway, you can imagine how I feel about it... shivers...

  • @220773

thnx my friend. spread the word ;o)

  • Thanks for this fine old traditional version. I played it for all those around last Jan 1 - don't even care if they thought it was a "strange" version. I have always liked this better - more authentic - less commercial. Nice to have the whole song too. The view fills out a lot better when all the verses are there (presuming you understand them).

  • @rdvqc

I agree totally, thanks for the comments.

  • tanks so much kev . the more i play this the better it gets .

to hear it in true form is amazing . thanks is a small word,

but i know you understand in a big way, what that means to us all my Joe

  • @tanglewoodtw400n

    thnx my friend ;o)

  • A very beautiful song. Much more so than the common tune now played. Avery haunting tune. We must get the world to sing it correctly

  • @zipalot

I am trying! Spread the word ;o)

  • An earlier comment suggests a better/improved recording technique. I would have to agree. You have a very haunting and romantic singing voice; a strong, honest countenance and excellent guitar work.

You represent the bard so well when you relate this. Release a well-produced CD exactly as you are. I will buy it and I will listen to it - we all will.

  • @K3KCT

Thanks for your considered and very positive comments. They are greatly appreciated. There is indeed a CD available although SCOTLOADS which was distributing downloads and the CDs for me has ceased trading. Until I find an alternative they are available from me. Contact me with your email address if you wish one.

    regards & thanks again

  • @DarkroomAngel

will do....and of course all the best to you and yours!

  • Sir, I find your vocal prowess while playing somewhat complex arpeggios to be very impressive and influential. So many versions of this classic piece are sub-par, I'm glad there is one more good version for people to see.

  • @sonicblew

Many thanks and best wishes to you

  • For 3 years now, I've watched this video repeatedly at this time of year. Beautiful and haunting enough to make one nostalgic immediately.

  • @reykng

thnx for the compliments...glad you keep coming back!

All the best to you for 2011

  • Hey you

Is it ok to add this to my f/b for the new year?

    Blue xx

  • @DarkroomAngel

yes of course...let me know when you do!

  • Listen to how this fine SCOTTISH singer pronounces this SCOTTISH word 'Syne' - it's pronounced with an 'S' not a 'Z'

    PRONOUNCE WITH AN 'S', PLEASE.

THERE WAS NEVER A 'Z' IN THIS SONG - WHERE THE HELL DID IT COME FROM???

    BTW, beautifully performed. First-class.

    Thank-you

  • @K3KCT

    thnx for the feedback!

  • @chimpytg

thnx for letting me know....The firm has stopped trading online. I will have to rethink!

Meantime I can sell you one if you wish. Where are you based?

  • absolutely love your vids - found Scots Wha Hae earlier. I love that you just sing it straight, a nice acoustic melody, and you don't drag the songs (organist's disease, as it's called in my family - 'It's old and beautiful, so clearly this song must be slower than molasses/treacle...') Well done... hopefully I won't be to distracted to finish my work!

Thank you for the song, and lesson about myself.

  • @kellythesinger

Many thnx.... That's the nicest comment I've had in awhile!

    Kev

By the way, I've been on the look out for a book of Robert Burn's music for guitar. Are there any you would recommend?

  • @entropyincreasing

    thnx.

To answer your question, it depends if you want to play chords to accompany singing..or play the melodies.... drop me a line with your email address and we can discuss further

  • while i was a scout, we used to sing that song as farewell...but not in this special way, which is, what i have to admit, just beautiful....great work Mr, Burns :)

  • I absolutely love this! I'd never really known the meaning (one can surmise) or understood the haunting beauty of this enduring tune. I listen to this often, trying to memorize this great version--though I could never sing it as beautifully as you do. Simply lovely.

  • Auld lang syne... It was the lyrics of this song I was searching for and what I found was Robert Burns and a lot more wonderful songs and lyrics. That was a long time ago...

    Thank you

  • @motte1168

    Glad to be of service!

    ;o)

  • I like that you stayed with the original tune, far more beautiful than the commonly known version. I like what you did with it!

  • thnx my friend

  • Wow. I knew the old words, thanks to Wikipedia, but I never got that he intended a different tune originally. Interesting.

It seems weird to think we might have been singing this version at New Years instead, if just a few events were different. Weird how the world works.

Thanks for putting this up, it's really moving.

  • @FungusTrooper

    thnx for the feedback
