  • hey, how is the ported lower intake manifold treating you? did you just change the oil after you installed it, or did you have to do any other post mod things to get it running? i just want to know because im going to install mine soon

  • The ported LIM is great! It's hopefully staying really clean too because it doesn't have that rough stock casting to hold carbon deposits. I did change the oil, though you don't need to if you're sure absolutely no coolant dripped into the lifter area. I recommend you change your oil just to be sure.

  • big jump in power?

  • Yes, but only after a PRJ Performance tune. The L67 throttle body and 97 MAF sensor are not compatible with the 99 L36 stock MAF tables. It felt pretty good before and after the tune, though.

You know how Lucas power steering fluid is really thick? I tried making it more viscous by leaving it on the UIM for a while. However, the UIM cools so fast that it only made the bottle lukewarm. In comparison, the L36 UIM heated up bottles very nicely and apparently kept heat in as well.

  • I agree with the last commentabout the egr valve. It's caused from sress of changing temperatures in the engine coolent the same thing happend to my sunfire's water neck it is also plastic but, plastic intake manifolds have there benefits to such as lower temps since plastics don't adsorbe heat as fast as metals do it also benefits from lower noise levels so that means more hp and a smoother ride.

  • A polished UIM is so much more sexy than noise reduction and some more HP. I like to think of it as the plastic UIM suppressing heat that would otherwise be taken care of by metal. If you put your hand on a metal intake manifold and feel heat, it should be that you're sensing the heat that's dissipating. I could be wrong on that. What you just wrote makes more sense.

  • are you perfering to me when you said "The person who said the EGR causes rotting actually owns no Series II engine" I've own 2 series 2's the first one was from a 1996 bonneville sse (L36), the second was from a 2000 grand prix gtp sedan (L67).

  • No, I wasn't referring to you. You're actually still right. If I hadn't thrown away the UIM, I'd be able to take pictures of the EGR area. It still was holding up, but it didn't look like the rest of the UIM's plastic.

  • I bet you swaped the intake manifold because the coolent and the exhaust from the e.g.r. valve rotted the plastic manifold right

  • Actually, mine warped around the lower intake manifold gasket and then cracked and warped around the throttle body. It was losing coolant by spilling it on the front fuel injectors. My knowledge of the plastic manifold issue is that they crack and warp in general. Tough to say why, but there was barely anything wrong with my EGR section. In fact, had it not warped and cracked around the gaskets, I'm sure I would still have it.

  • the reason for the last comment because my intake manifold rotted and leaked into the engine and stalled it luckly it didn't cracked the block !

(warped) your just thorwing people off some times its better to not be right all the time smartass!

  • Only by having been right all the time would you know it's better not to be that way. Are you the real smartass in this situation?

  • you sound like a girl lol!

  • My bellowing laughter that ensued after reading this comment woke up several children and scared them to the point of urination.

Anyway, I really am aware that your problem with the UIM is much more common than what I had. My UIM was changed out in 2003, but the LIM gaskets were original. They were really eaten up. You would have been absolutely right with your guess, but for some reason my Bonneville just managed not to have one UIM crack in about 70K miles since the swap.

  • the only resson why you would laugh that loud is because I pissed you off or your just insane.

Im well aware of what caused the intake manifold to rot so no help there. no one asked you any ways you are insane aren't you?

  • This is kind of getting out of hand. I didn't really laugh with just enough force that I made kids piss themselves. That wouldn't have been manly enough of me. I'm only trying to keep you from hurting yourself as you find out just how manly people can be. Are you on any GP forums like ClubGP or 3800pro?

  • no shit no one can laugh that loud.

I use to go to bonneville club a use to have a 96 sse but unfortunately I parked my car on the edge of the side walk and some drunk bitch ran in to it with a 2006 ford expedition that really sucked now I have a 2000 sunfire gt I have some unique plans for it im going to put a northstar v8 with a rwd platform.

  • Ok, so that's why you think rotting is the issue. Actually, the EGR causes the thing to crack, not to rot. Junkyards and PRJ Performance conclude this. The person who said the EGR causes rotting actually owns no Series II engine and depends on older information. Quite a lot of BC people think the EGR is the issue, but then why do lower intake manifolds go to crap when there is no EGR going through those?

  • How many miles on the bonneville?

  • Just over 151K miles.

  • Cool. Thanks. What did you think of the bonneville timeline video i sent you?

  • So thats why i never get a phone call back lol. Great work guys!

  • Oh crap. Sorry about not calling you back.
