Awesome power even from a distant event like that... Can you imagine what that place would look like if an earthquake hit the west coast of North America? Thanks alot for posting this along with the tide and river flow data.
Yeah, this is pretty cool, especially if you are stoned out of your gourd, dude. Like, wow, you've smoked a couple of spliffs and you are, like, wowee zohwee to the fugowee. Yep, darn cool if you are, like, ridin' your own personal tsunami of THC. I mean, Whoa Nellie! I got the munchies for some clam chowder and chips and stuff. Look at that wave action! It's making me dizzy -- or maybe that's the ganja turning my noodle to strudel. Let's, like, get our surfboards and our rubber duckies, dude.
my ex gf and i used to sneak in the indoor pool hot tub at jotts after steelhead fishing freezing in winter lol ive killed lot fish in that damn estuary and first 30 miles of river below lobster creek best river ever has salmon in it so many weeks out of yeaar its awesome chetco elk sixes etc etc etc lots em good but rogue has fish more time of year then rest love rogue
I have lived in GB for over twenty years now (actually up hunter creek) and to see the water pushing that far up river is amazing (especially that wave breaking on the rocks in front of jots) I love watching big storms roll thru and I've seen over 40 foot surf, but it never pushes this far up river, I was out of town when this happened, or I would have been on the bridge with you guys. thanks for posting this.....RUN...lol
It's amazing how the surge kept getting bigger and bigger and how much force it has, coming all the way from across the Pacific, although it's tiny compared to the killer waves in Japan. Still breathtaking to watch this footage, thanks for sharing! :)
lol Run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now! run!!!! attention breaking news oregon suffers a tsunami the only casualtie of the inccident was a segaul we will remmember him well his name was bob. moment of silence for bob
What the hell, none of the news covered it as well as you "idiots on a bridge" ha ha, (woulda done the same thing) very cool guys! @ the end it was bigger than I would have imagined it to get. Surprised actually. My grandmother lives near the beach there and was with family at least. I bet she wouldve been scared to see that. I was born in gold beach but grew up an hour north of here, this never happened and I was evacuated many times as a kid.
Nice footage...well done..I am from the UK but I have stood in that very spot and on top of the hill on a trip to the beach with my GF's Family :) Brings back good memories,I love oregon, thanks for sharing :)
Very, very, cool. At least someone was smart enough to get down there with a camera. Thanks for the extra long shots too. I know this is pretty weak, but hey, its Oregon... Nothing happens here.
Awesome video! Kind of a small scale example for what happened on the open ocean. Very cool to see! And you guys had me giggling with you! Ignore the comments from those other people who are way too sensitive and overreacting. Its ridiculous to think that YOUR reaction to YOUR experience was intentionally insensitive or offensive to those in Japan going through a DRASTICALLY different experience. Thanks for the Video!
I enjoyed watching this. I was recording from my back yard, over hwy 101. At the top of Goudy Rd. I feel i had some good footage, but couldn't get back down in front of my house to see the river. So thanks I enjoyed watching a rare event. As for you who felt offended while watching, DON'T WATCH IT.
I love how people can't take a joke. They were just havin' fun, Or "retarded" behavior as some old hags would say. Chill, There not doing anything wrong at all. And actually the guy that you just called an idot is a very good Chemical engineer-Science Teacher-and Forestry Expert.... So don't be hatin'. Thanks much.(:
Excellent footage! Thanks for sharing this. I was watching the ocean from my balcony when the tsunami waves were coming in and wondering what was going on at the river.
Thanks for capturing this and sharing - but as I was taught - if you don't have anything nice to say DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. Of course we are all grateful that the US coasts were not seriously hit and our thoughts and prayers are with those in japan.
You know what. You're right! I will never giggle or make ironic statements ever again. Lesson learned. Thank you Random Internet Person! You're sweeping generalizations surely make a difference in the lives of many. As for me, I will hang my head in shame. I'll think twice before ever getting excited again. You never know when you might offend somebody.
Your laughter did not represent a Chemical Engineer, Science Teacher or Forestry Expert. You were making fun of what was to be a Tsunami on the West Coast, and NOT that of a scientific study. Nobody here was laughing at our West facing beaches. Thanks for posting and replying, but next time don't yell "Run", "OMG Tsunami" and then laugh. Maybe then you won't sound like waterheads. After that, I wish the Japanese, U.S. Citizens, and foreign travelers in Japan all the best in your recovery...
Lol I just watched another vid from someone else who was watching these waves come in, and as they followed the waves under the bridge I could see you guys on the bridge.
Nicely done guys! Dad thinks 'the guy on the bridge did a really good job'. So much power in those surges after all that ocean green in between -- hard to capture on vid but an incredible thing to experience. "An earthquake is only Mother Nature’s way of bouncing us on her knee" ~John Muir - Of course where he spent time there were no buildings to crush, no gas lines to ignite, and no surges to inundate, so it was just a bounce or 2 - as it was fortunately for us here on Friday. Incredible.
Stobi! Thanks for the feedback. I understand that it is easy to autonomously call people you will never meet or know 'retarded'. However, you are speaking of a chemical engineer, science teacher, and forestry expert. Each of us are emotionally intelligent enough to understand the division between our own natural wonderment and the plight of those in Japan. We are simply allowing our selves to enjoy a childlike fascination with nature for a moment. It's not retarded - it's healthy.
Very nice vid. Wish I were there. Really cool. Great fun. But I'm really glad I won't be there when an 8.9 mag hits 30 miles off your coast and you are all washed out to sea by a 23 foot tsunami. DUDES - MAKE SURE YOU GET THAT ON FILM. DUDES - RIDE THAT SUCKER WITH YOUR SHORT BOARDS
