You've got a point. Whenever I read a Batman-story the super-villains sort of gets turned into gangsters or it's seemingly only super-villains that threatens the city or occasionally the whole damn world. It's a bit weird.
I've loved every Bat-project Loeb as done (with the one exception when he co-wrote Batman-Darkness with Lobdell), so we're at odds there, but TLH is my TDKR, so I'm with you on this being the best Bat-story ever!!!
The Long Halloween and The Dark Knight Returns are my all time favorites. But I like The Long Halloween more because alot of the things in the book are in The Dark Knight especially the look and design of Two Face!

but what about Harvey being late to the new years eve party and having wet hair even though he had a hat on. the way I see it, Harvey's wife did the first 3 murders then Harvey figured it out and to protect her, Harvey made a deal with the gangster kid(Alberto). Alberto must have been Harvey's inside man in the falcone family. Harvey got on the boat and pretended to kill Alberto and then Alberto became Holiday and took credit for all the killings. that way Harvey kept his promise not to kill.

Totally agree with this being maybe the best Batman story,either this or Year one for me.
I think that's what made Batman Begins and The Dark Knight so good that they referenced the best source material.
Also Agree on Loeb,but he did do this book so I give him kudos for that,his other stuff...I can take it or leave it.
Hope they do an animated film of this:)

Upon rereading I've come to the conclusiont hat is was Harvey and his Wife and then the last one was Alberto.
