I live in Waterloo and I jam out on rock 108, so when this song comes up i'm like F**k Yea! Btw I am a 7th grader and I just did a stupid research project but it was fairly decent be cause I choose the Sullivan brothers as my topic. During my presentation I'm going to jam out to this song!!
after the sullivans were killed there was noone left to continue their bloodline thats y the government passed the sullivan act which states if your the last male in your family you cant be drafted or enlist yourself willingly even this way the government is not responsible for killing off the last name of the bloodline this song rocks
@dreamer4life11 it is. i just wish i would have gotten the chance to meet the boys. they served with my grandfather. (he wasnt on the ship when it sank)
if u dont know what the song is about its is was during ww2 and there were 5 sullivan brothers and they were all on the uss juneau and all 5 of them died in either the battle of coral sea or gualdalcanal i frogot witch one, and the bule and gold stars are for when a family had a person in the military it would be bule and if they died they would change it to a gold star, thumbs up?
"...and overnight my buddies turned into men, running out of time for games and girls..." <-- boy has the WELFARE STATE taken this out of the American Spirit... We now have men who never grow up and continue to live out their lives as adolesent-like morons feeding off big-daddy government...
Im from Iowa and i live 30 minutes away from Waterloo. A few weeks ago i was at The 5 Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. I had no clue why it was named after some dudes that went to war. But then one of my older friends told me why it was named after them and to look up this song. Damn, hes a guenious! Because this is a very beautiful song. :)
You know, this is a great song but it isn't the only one they made. Look up some other songs. If you like this one, odds are you'll like other songs by them. Start with the album Monsoon, which this one is off and then listen to Attention Please, the one that came after that. You might really like them. I'm a big fan and I want to go to one of their concerts when we get a chance. Caroline's Spine is a great band and they shouldn't just be famous for one song.
I never heard this song till now. WOW! What a powerful and extremely sad song. I'm glad that such a song was written to commemorate the Sullivans!!! "Change those blue stars to gold"…makes me cry.
these brothers (although the song is slightly inaccurate - they were on a Heavy Cruiser , not a Battleship as the song says) are legends in the modern Navy, having received a Destroyer named in their honor; See "USS The Sullivans". I never served aboard it (it's stationed out of Mayport, Fl), however, I have deployed alongside her.
i heard this years ago... and loved it i cant believe its gaining popularity finally!! these brothers are heroes, yes... but their mother deserves some kind of recognition as well for raising five true americans, and then havin to go through the lose of all of her sons... its a sad true story, and this songs represents it perfectly!! as a marine and havin served with navy boys this song means a lot...
and if you listen to the entire CD - it's pretty good - too bad they didn't make past the 90's!!

Hailing from Iowa, and proud of our Five Fighting Sullivans!
The oldest of their opposite family, five girls, and one boy.
My sisters and I are close like those brothers were.
Couldn't imagine losing them!

if they released and got it played, the unplugged version of this would be all over the radio, even as old as the song is...
