It's easy to talk about the "hysteria" of environmentalists towards nuclear power, but in less than 25 years, we've had two major nuclear accidents. Even if a huge number of lives weren't lost in the initial accidents, the accidents leave great swaths of land uninhabitable. Then there is still the problem of what to do with the spent fuel. No one seems keen to have it in their back yards, even if they didn't mind using the electricity that was produced.

There is a man that has revamped his energy. Converted his home to solar, hydrogen , electric. Solar panels provide solar power the excess electricity produced by the panels is converted to hydrogen which he uses on sunless days the remaing H is used to propel his car and boat. His system is not cheap over 500K but it is possible and for some it just an expense. Sadly the book is accurate that many will not live any longer due to depleating energy and the way we currently produce our food.

Geothermel energy by deep drilling holes around the world will allow production of electric energy. How ever the huge cities will collapse. The empty skyscrapers will need to be demollish and hual of to be recycle into useful products. Big cities will be turn into a mass mine for steel production. Trains will replace cars and trucks for long range trips. The way we live in the US today is over!

And when you get rid of these huge cities, where are the other 4.5 billion people who live in them going to live? Oil is just one problem, overpopulation is the main culprit. The only reason why every inch of land isn't taken up now is because of these big cities. When they fall, there is no room to place, feed or cloth them without famon and disease. The problem is larger than oil, its overpopulation that has caused this mess and our inability to control our breeding.

Geothermal is only really available for a small nmber of countries like iceland cus they are sitting on top of a volcano. For other parts of the world, to tap energy as intense as that in iceland , youd need to dig a hole about 100 miles deep to break through the earths crust. The deepest mine is something like 3km deep.

Its a scary prediction, and i do believe it, but i was talking about the whole "we're not gonna have any food anymore" stuff with my family, and my mom's boyfriend remarked that there are already alternatives..

Its not that there COULD be alternatives to oil, the problem is you can't setup the infrastructure for it in 3 months. It will take 20 years to roll out a new energy but what are you going to do in the meantime??? Yeah, there are alternatives but NO ONE is setting up the system to roll them out.

If this vision of the future comes to pass the UK is in *serious* trouble; we have 60m people on 60m acres. Only a v small percent work in our techno-heavy agriculture & modern fertilizers may not be available. Yikes!
