  • There wasnt any norway or sweden back then they where the same.

  • Chris Columbus must be turning over in his grave right now.

  • scandinavia includes norway, shweden, denmark, finland but its know that only norwegian vikings setlled in america and norwegians're truest vikings from that countries...

  • Mel Gibson Making Film About Vikings and Viking Culture

  • Look even iceland was founded by Norwegian vikings. When it comes to language icelanders seem far more conservative. There you will find some people still believe in elves. Like brits out in the country for faries. Yeah thier still Norwegian my Grandpa's Norwegian did not teach my dad Nornysk so he can argue infront of him with my grandma which I think is hilarious. I wish there were more movies with vikings in it Norwegians in the US are becoming culturaly numb. Its sad.

  • Ahaha must be great still believing in elves XD

  • Yeah those that might not outright believe in elves will be agnostics about it. Saying "Well they might exist you just cant rule them out.".

  • I'm norwegian and its always been a sort of a "pride-thing" with the horns. But I know that the Vikings never used horns on their helmets. It was the englishmen that said that the vikings used it and here is the reason. In 1912 Roald Amundsen (norwegian) defeated the englishman Robert Falcon Scott in the race to the southpole. After this The British wanted to make the norewgians look like primitive and crude. To "brutalize" the vikings was one of the means they used. Sounds stupid though.

  • I dont think was because of southpole race but more because of cinema myths.

  • Well me, a bunge of English writers and national Geographic disagree with you on that.

  • Since everybody in here "know" everything, I expect my statement will be heavily critizised but Leif Eriksson (half norwegian, half icelandic) found america in like the 890's or something. late 800's I think it was anyways.

  • why did the viking roar?

  • im icelandic and i understand what the vikings say in the moive

  • Vikings weren't succesful against Eskimos.

That climate was too bad even for them.

  • Adam's apple? I think he killed a woman and women do not have an Adam's apple, my friend

  • we do, they are just insignifigantly small

  • ur all fucking wrong and this is a fucking stupid video anyway

  • vikings were scandinavians you dumbbass....

  • No the germans was germanians...

  • Hahaha, i have seen the movie...Nazi-Vikings *LOL* The guy who wrotes this story needs to get his nuts kicked!

    Nazi-Vikings...*rofl*...

  • Idiot

  • this clip is wicked cool

  • IT is a bad ass action film, not a documentary.

  • some vikings did pilige or whatever

  • yes.. there was so called "Plundringståg" and they invaded even america and greece and such targets...

  • they didn't invade america... most of the plundringstågen was against churches in England and France. Damn, you're a scandinavian and is still so dumbass as you can be at the viking culture. Damn... know your fact before you imberrass yourself and us scandinavians...

  • Maybe you had abit much to drink

    Invade.. dosen't always mean conquering...

  • lmfao, invading is when you're going into someone else's territory. Conquer and invading is 2 different things. Invading is pretty much that they take over your shit. Walking into your country and stuff. Conquering is that you just walk into someones country to defeat them and hold the territory not take it as yours.

  • Invading = Killing all in your path

Conquering = Taking the Domain as yours

  • invading is not killing all in your path. Did german kill you norweigans when they invaded Norway in 1942?

  • Nope... you're right... Maybe Germany acctuly were on our side them :/

Your statement shouts out that germany did not hate us and did not come to bring us down... So maybe The germanic ideology was right

    More than 13.000 Men Joined...

    Over 9000 died...

Which path to choose.. is up to you

  • They didn't come to kill you. They didn't hate you. Norway was a tactical target to take over just as Russia was. Russia was Germany's only threat. They took Norway because your harbors that could be used by allied forces.

Of course people die when they fight. It's nothing weird about that, however, it's 2 different things by saying: Dying in combat and entering your country to kill the inhabitants. That's genocide.

  • they did reach some of north america though

  • Yes, but that was the Danish vikings that reached the New Foundland area. However it was the irish monks that was first foreigns who reached North america. Listen: Swedish vikings went to russia and arabia. Danish vikings went to England and France. Norwegians went to Iceland and to North America. However i believe it was Danish who made it to america first after taking over Greenland.

  • yeah, I thought the you were saying vikings never reached North America. My mistake

  • aiight, chill.

  • Wrong boy... The norwegians went to north america and grenland.

  • You fucking dumbass, Greenland belong to Denmark. Just read a damn book man. Just go to like wikiepda or whatever and hit Greenaland and you'll see....

  • Rowheart, You're wrong. Iceland was discovered by Ingolf Arnarsson a norwegian explorer.

Greenland was discovered by Erik the red, another norwegian. The reason why Denmark now owns Greenland is because when in 1536 Denmark took over Norway they also took their colonies in Greenland and Iceland, so they kept them when the union splitted.

Yet again North America was discovered by the son of Erik the Red, Leiv Eiriksson.

  • The norwegian vikings also went to Byzantium, todays Istanbul. There are Rune-letters there.

PS! Were taught this in elementary school, here in Norway so very disappointing with all the wrong facts from norwegians here ;(

  • Most of those that went to the east vikings were swedes but that doesnt mean that some of them werent from Norway and Denmark all tree countries didnt existed back then so vikings could be from anywhere.

Many Anglo Saxons also went to the east.

  • No, the swedes went over the baltic sea to conquer the territory that we today know as Lithuania, Latvia and the other one... "Estland" in norwegianb. The Swedes didn't go to America. Norwegians firts settled on Iceland and then Greenland and then went to America (Leif Ericsson). There is just so much wrong facts in here, and i'm not gonna be acting like I know it all, but people sometimes rely on these comments (obviously) as beeing the truth. Documentation please.

  • Well I just find hard to say that only Norwegians went to the West since no country existed back then so I wouldnt find rare and hard that vikings from all over Scandanivia went west.

But the classiv view is that swedes went to more to the east and norwegians and danes to the west and south.

  • First u said swedes went over to the west, then changed ur mind and said east. No countries back then? The name Norway was first used in the mid 800's. In 880 the land was called The Northman's land, a reference to the norwegians according to the the tale of english king Alfred. And the country were also established at this time, just not under one king, several chiefs had the power. The danes went southward through Holstein and Germany and against Poland.

  • I didnt change my mind I just say the classical view is that. But I just find hard to say that at least one swede didnt go west xD.

No countries as states nowsdays didnt existed for example Portugal existed recoginesed since 1143 as Kingdmon how about Norway? Only 1814. You had exacly that various tribes and chiefs. The Northmans land can be a reference to anny northman.

The danes also went to England and other sothern lands. They fougth agaisnt poles??

  • Check out the facts before debating!!! In 1814 Norway became an independent country AGAIN, after beeing in union with Denmark and Sweden. Norway existed as a country in the late 800's, the term northman is used for todays norwegians as the term "svear" was used for swedish ppl. Yes danes ALSO went to England, and norwegians too.

  • @Machaugla The term Northman is used to all Scandinavians, Not only Norwegians. In the East the Swedes werent just known as the Rus but also as Northman.

  • And btw, the wikipedia article under history opens:

''In prehistoric times, Greenland was home to a number of Paleo-Eskimo cultures. From AD 984 it was colonized by Norwegian settlers in two settlements on the west coast on the fjords near the very southwestern tip of the island.'' So why dont you go read a book?

  • First off: It's not scientists whom writes the articles at wikipedia, it's regular people. + i know that eskimo was at greenland before the vikings. Eskimo is natives just as natives in america. So technically, no country east off america has found america.

  • Wrong. It was Leif Eriksson (icelandic mother and norwegian father) that discovered America. Offcourse there may have been danish vikings along, dubious though.

  • Yeah, doubtful that there were danish vikings... We dont understand the language now, and probably didnt understand it then. Norwegian and icelandic vikings were the real shit:D:D

  • WTF the did with the vikings?

The vikings and indians relationship was friendly!

Vikings don´t suppose to use horns!

  • Exactly :P

  • Lol?? vikings plundered america, and no vikings didn't USE to use horns.. but if you're gonna say none did it's like sayign PLANES CAN'T FLY.. theres always someone thinking one step more

  • Man,did you ever see a real viking using horns? This is ridiculous!

  • Man, those are berggetshorn which is common in southern sweden so don't even try to say NO ONE diden't think of it..

Besides SEE?? i don't know.. i don't relly have contact with dead ancestors -_-

  • Well,sorry about before anyway.But what is a berggetshorn?

  • It's a mountain goat that wanderes here somewhere... but still the Horns look very similar to the movies.. and they drank out of them so i don't assume No one even thought about having them on their head...

  • Hmmm,I didn´t know that,sorry for before.

  • We don't have Berggetar in southern sweden neither...

  • I'm swedish idiot. Plus, it's a fact and everyone in the world should know about it today that vikings didn't have horns on their helmets.

  • did you ever see a REAL viking use horns?

  • Actually, the relationship the Vikings had with the natives in Newfoundland probably wasn't that friendly. It is likely that the natives forced the vikings to leave.

  • Exactly, but it was friendly at the begginig, ant the the indians atacked Vinland.

  • From the Vikingsagas I have read, most interactions with the natives of America and the Vikings were mostly friendly. When there was a battle, it was always started by the Natives.

  • What vikingsagas?

  • Wow, it' s been awhile. I think it was either Grettissaga or Gunnarsaga that had them go to the US, swap some weapons with natives. All really friendly, but according to the saga, the Natives wanted more and attacked the Vikings.

That's the only example I can remember right now.
