what software are you using to recording these? When I directly record using Youtube it limits the C500's resolution to 360p. When I use Windows Live Movie Maker the raw video is 640x480. How are you getting 720p out of the C500?
Do you still use this webcam? This video is a year old and I noticed these cams are less than $20 now so I was wondering if you still recommended it.
The image quality in this video is fantastic, amazing for a cam that's so cheap
@randomworld09 Hey there! Well, it really comes down to what you want, and what you want to pay for it. If you'd like 720p and you have Windows XP (running on a rather recent computer, max. 2 years old or so), you can get the 500. If you have Windows Vista, Windows 7, Linux or Mac OS X and you'd like to get HD, you need to get the 510. Also, the 510 has a better microphone, and is better in low-light conditions. Furthermore, it's small and portable, so you can use it for your laptop.
nice.. thanks Dan.. yours is the most 'human' review out there.. kk.. my prob.. i pretty much settled on getting the logi c600.. my first webcam... cuz the mrs. wants to skype (blar!).. so i think.. maybe there are reviews on youtube (bad move).. kk.. lots of reviews.. problem is.. there is a techky asian dude.. and some bald guy.. that say that c500.. is a lot better?!!? omg! but do they do wide screen? tell me .. what to do?
The C500 indeed is a lot better than the C600; the 500 has better optics.
If you use the software on Windows XP, you'll be able to switch to widescreen HD if you want to; it will simply crop to widescreen but the quality is still really good.
If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, I recommend getting the C600 as the 500 doesn't have HD drivers for Windows Vista and Windows 7. As far as I know, the 600 does have that.
@hawkteflon (Obviously) I wasn't using that mic while recording - I wanted to test the webcam mic.
It's a microphone from the brand "HQ Power" and indeed, it uses XLR line out for it's audio output. On the other end we can find the low-density acoustic guitar-kind jack plug. But, you can't just plug it into a computer, because it needs phantom power. So, it's hooked up to a little mixer I had laying around.
Thats pretty neat - the colours are nice and vivid. Shame about the 4:3 aspect ratio though - you could probably still use the yt:stretch=16:9v tag to adjust it

Looks good, man. Pretty clear! I say throw the mic under the shot, though. It's really big.

@hawkteflon I know... I'm planning to look for some cheap microphone arm. Do you know any cheap places?
daanbrg 1 year ago
@daanbrg What kind of mic is that? It looks like you're using an XLR line out.

@StapledNote Sure, I could stretch it, but that would make it look weird. I'm sticking to 4:3 :P

If it's HD, why isn't it 16:9?! :s
neaped 1 year ago
@neaped Because it's an under-50-euros webcam.
But make sure to turn on HD in the player, you'll like it ;)
