  • The ironic thing is that, in fact, scientists DO think philosophy of science is important, whether they know it or not. After all, philosophers do not reason incorrectly, they use reason just as scientists do; it's just that philosophers follow reason and logic wherever it leads; scientists, for the most part however follow only as far as practicality and theoretical bias permit. But the scientist is still committed to the end result because they're committed to reason too.

  • @richardtheteague Fainman is a philosopher tho... Even if scientists respect philosophers, philosophers often do not respect philosophers... Wittgenstein used to yell at his students that wanted to become philosophers, and one of his favorite people was the wife of a friend of his, because she worked in a factory and "did something useful"

  • @dinotles Wittgenstein was ingenious in many ways, but he was also a lunatic.

  • The climate research mentioned:

  • philosophy is useless. nice try.

  • @Everett345 Who cares? The end result of the research is what matters.

  • And to cap that off the place of science in society is a philosophical and not a scientific question.

  • Great video! Well said.
