you should have gotten bamboo sticks to draw with & put the charcoal at the end with a rubber band. i do scenic painting for theatre & i only do detail work by hand cause you'll kill you're back if you have to do a whole show like that....looks interesting though....
@valpack07 -that's a great idea! We didn't have a space to hang it for a few weeks because we were working w/a deadline & had to get started wherever we could, which was difficult bc it was so large. Your idea never occurred to us! We managed to get into the scenery shop.... and worked there until the theater space opened up where we could hang it-at that point it was much easier as we could move it up and down to work on it. I will have to try the bamboo stick next time! Thanks for the tip!!
@olivosARTstudio no problem. when i do a drop of any size & i'm not using a stick i get yelled at by my scenic charge. it took some time getting used to it, but it's basically just an extension of your arm. scenic paint shops should have them on hand, but if not i believe Rosebrand still sells them.
do you have any other process videos or photos? i would love to see some of the end results....
@valpack07 - Thanks! We bought the canvas from Rosebrand!.... I don't know when we will do a drop next..honestly we are mostly easel painters..though I do like to work large (6' x 7') ...you can see the finsihed result on the video response here "artists paint a backdrop for Mexican dancers". Thanks for watching!
Wow, that last few minutes really captured how large the area you have to work really is!! I mean, it was obviously big, but...I als got a kick out of putting a face with the name as we have Twittered before...funny how the minds eye differs from reality, u are a bit younger and much prettier than I envisioned, and your husband seems vibrant and funny...this made me happy to watch and, mon dieu!, the size of that canvas!!
saludos afectuosos desde Santiago de Chile, me agrada tu trabajo creativo trasmites una muy buena energia, me gustaria que establecieramos puentes y caminos de comunicación e intercambio entre el sur y norte y norte y sur...abrazos
Would like to see how it looked at the end. Must have been a lot of work.

Yes, the canvas was huge..we painted it at the County's 'costume shop' -where theater folk go to paint scenery etc....
